So, finally mustered the braveness to give it a watch. It wasn't terrible. Wasn't even meh. Actually, it was above that. It was pretty good, if you excuse the occasional BUDGET showing.
And seeing what day it is, might as well mention that this fucker is not only the best character in the film, but one of the best cats OF ALL TIME.

Bodi has the most generic eyes, yet the animators did a good job with what they were given.
The music choice deserves praise. Not a single song is used twice (accept the one the dog co-writes, but it is only played in full once). They even managed to get a Radiohead song in there (from the period they were still a good ROCK band).

The movie is also quite silly. Almost Penguins of Madagascar levels of silly. Bidi's father knows magical kung fu, and that is treated as nothing.

I recently watched this as well and have to agree with you. I was pleasantly ssurprised at how much I enjoyed it.
Yet a lot of internet personalities ripped the movie to shreds. Brad Jones said it was worse than Norm of the North.

Four minutes of screentime. Mae Whitman actually gave interviews about the movie. A role that probably took her 20 minutes to do.
Her role in the movie was just that: short, but sweet.

She is not interchangeable with Bodi, you cannot put her in his place and have it be the same movie.
I don't even think it aired in my country. A real shame. I would have liked to see it in theaters.
