This is what I'm feeling too. Pokemon anime and video game main series stories are the worst and all follow the same formula. A lot of Pokemon media is held back trying to tie into and call back to it. Hopefully they'll actually write in some creativity into Detective Pikachu now that they don't have Ash to weigh it down.
