Post your favorite foreign kino.

This was much better then I expected. Starts off as a Art Heist Caper movie, and ends up with a lot of very dark nordic humor.

>Made by an anti-police hue
>Becomes the most pro police movie in brazil

It's a situation kinda like with Starship Troopers, made to criticize fascism but was too appealing to be seen as a negative, so fascists love it.

ST only really appealed to fascists though. This actually broke through to the normal public since it was dealing with how favela's are full of crabs keeping others down and the city filled with overly rich virtue signalers. Like BOPE got a HUGE public support boost from this.

This. And it's crazy how this film is still relevant. Brazilian society barely changed, if only, has gotten worse.

It might be people are getting more Fascist, but I have seen more and more poeple just love Starship troopers for the reasons not intended by the guy who made it.

>tfw talking to leftie classmate
>says he loves starship troopers
>i say I love it too
>he doesn't know it's for the exact opposite reasons

It is 5/10 as a satire, and a 8/10 if you accept it on face value.

"Li'l Dice my ass, my name Li'l Ze now."

Huelander here, can confirm things haven't changed at all since that movie was released 11 years ago.

That is ironic because the source material was actually pro-fash.

I'd rate it much lower as a satire, because I never got the impression the humans were ever supposed to be wrong. I still think its a 8/10 movie at face value.

...

>I'd rate it much lower as a satire
Can't really disagree. Even if I said it was a 5/10, if someone says it a 1/10 as a satire I wouldn't disagree.

Which is part of the charm as it completely fails in it intended role.

...

...

Why do people say that the guy who made it was anti-police? I feel like that cover story is made a lot for movies that are blatant pro-authority propoganda.

How could you not like it? Everyone is 10/10 perfect in the future and gets to go on exciting adventures and wear awesome clothes.

Bahuubali 1 and 2.

jaw droppingly dull and confoundingly ugly to look at
the reception to this "movie" only furthered my belief that brazilians aren't human and any praise for it stateside is just virtue signalling

You can go search up José Padilha. Hes a known socialist and prison reformist.

Argento is effortlessly kino

>nordic
>humor

i am american and get called Sup Forums every other post
the movie sucks

I'm sure I could find some meme article pushing that narrative, but when I look him what I see is
>Oxford University graduate
>only other writing credit happens to be ROBOCOP

For a guy who is opposed to judge dredd style power-tripping police tactics, he sure does take an exclusive interest in making glorifications of them in film.

Most of the humor is NSFW. the movie is a self discribed manlet who goes into art theiving to pay for what he thinks his tall blonde wife wants.

turns out that he robs a guy who ex special forces, and the guy goes to hunt him down, but it not for the reasons why you think.
Lot of brick jokes and and so on

Good cast too.

I loved City of God but I turned this movie off halfway through because I thought it was hammy and not good

Best editing ever put on film

>Bus 174
>A sociologist surmises that the hostage situation and the media coverage enabled Santo to step out of the state of invisibility and to be seen and heard for the first time. This angry hijacker holds a gun to the head of various hostages and screams out his demands to the police standing just outside the bus. Although the SWAT snipers have many clear shots at Santo, they are not ordered to do so. Even more amazing is the sympathy of several of the women hostages for the hijacker.
>Although the SWAT snipers have many clear shots at Santo, they are not ordered to do so

huh so the TACTICOOL cops have the clear opportunity to waste the subhuman star of our film, but choose not to? Sounds pretty admirable.

On a scale of 1 to Let The Fire Burn, this is a 9/11 first responder doc.

>tfw this, the Rurouni Kenshin live-action films, Shin Godzilla, Your Name. (Kimi no Na wa.), Mary and the Witch's Flower, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon are the only foreign films with 4K releases as of yet

>Your Name. (Kimi no Na wa.)
Absolutely soy, the rest are kino

the nigger got killed after he was captured

You already watched Mary and the Witch's Flower?
What did you think of it?

I really loved it.

So? Prison guards do not equal police commandos, which is who this movie is accused of glorifying.
