Do you think they’ll reprint and/or finish Mega Drive?
Do you think they’ll bring Ian and Tyson back?

>Do you think they’ll bring Ian and Tyson back?

>Time for a fresh new start with a new publisher!
>Better bring back the exact same creative team from the old publisher! That'll freshen things up!

You suck at this, user.

No Freedom Fighters.

That it's successful enough for IDW to start making comics based on other Sega IPs.

>What are your hopes for IDW’s Sonic?

That they include only game characters and original characters.

>Your fears?

That they acknowledge any of the shitty DiC/Archie characters.

I don’t think they’ll bring them back, but it’s within the realm of possibility. Hopefully they release Overdrive though.

You do you, man.

What other of their IPs are recognizable enough to warrant making a series? NiGHTS, Ecco, GOlden Axe, Jet Set Radio, and Panzer Dragoon could be cool, but how much of an audience is there?

>What are your hopes for IDW’s Sonic?
No Freedom Fighters.
>Your fears?
The Freedom Fighters.

Sadly, not an audience that's probably big enough.

But that's cuz Sega is letting them rot.

Knuckles not being an idiot would be nice. Damn Boom.

>Knuckles not being an idiot would be nice. Damn Boom.

Knuckles has been an idiot since his very conception, getting tricked by Robotnik over and over again in rapid succession.

The only reason you think he's deep and complex is because of Penders shit.

Whoa, hey, I admit he'll never be deep, but he's not a functional retard like in Boom, either.

He's a skilled treasure hunter, fighter, and has a lot of knowledge about ancient histories. He's just a little gullible sometimes.

Dude, they've said they were looking at old and new faces. Besides, no reason not to bring in some of the old guard since they're familiar with the franchise. Might be hired in a smaller role, but I could definitely see them bringing in an artist or two at least

I'm A-OK with IDW bringing back some of the better Archie artists, for sure. But leave Ian behind. I know everyone likes to jerk him off but he had really run out of steam in the past couple years and his run was getting boring and decompressed to hell. The guy had been writing the book for like 10 fucking years. He needs to be given a rest and let someone else have a chance to steer the ship.

Ian shouldn't have a multi-decade monopoly on Sonic comics.

Watch them take Spaz and no one else.

>Watch them take Spaz and no one else.

How many actual Sonic comics, not covers, has Spaz actually drawn in his entire 20+ year career? Like, 4?

He can go back to drawing covers and IDW will have made good on their old faces claim.

>Watch them take Spaz and no one else.

Too expensive. Also already said he's too busy to draw anything other than covers.

What else is he working on anyway?

No more Sega mandates.

Any fault with Ian was due to having to clean up after multiple reboots and the pendering

My hope is that they stop using SatAM as the basis for the comic's plot and main characters. That cartoon is over 20 years old and the countless people who have gotten into Sonic in that timeframe are mainly fans of the games.

I'm not saying they should scrub the Freedom Fighters from the comic entirely (Sega owns them) but they shouldn't main characters anymore. Sonic and his other game-character friends can help them out once in a while but Sonic isn't the kind of guy to commit himself to a team all the time.

>No more Sega mandates.
That's some wishful thinking right there

This desu

They have literally no purpose now. I dunno why exactly anybody would want them back besides nostalgia.

Being Gullible isn't synonymous with being stupid.

Knuckles was fairly intelligent in Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 yet was still pretty gullible

>What are your hopes for IDW’s Sonic?

TMNT SONIC AND BATMAN CROSS OVER!

The Sega mandates were for the greater good

This guy knows whats up.

I wonder if they'll start with modern Sonic or if they'll start with the early Sega Genesis stories.

You will get TMNT....the shitty annoying crappy piece of shit Nick TMNT. Not the good IDW one. So no Old Hod, no Demi-Gods, no GOOD Krang, no good turtles.

>The Freedom Fighters.
aren't they considered Archie's property?

How would a Batman/Sonic crossover work? I do see a TMNT/Sonic crossover working with maybe Eggman and Shredder teaming up to make their own furry Sonic clones.

No you RETARD. You deserve that insult just for being stupid. Fuck you. Go back to watching Rick and Morty.

-I hope the comic starts fresh and focuses on a core set of characters (most likely Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, but I'm open to more being added on)
-I hope they are free to bring in anything Sega and IDW have the rights to, but don't make any non-core character a major part of the series for longer then six months. Freedom Fighters coming back is fine, but we don't need to see them every issue, and they don't need to define the story.
-I hope they continue to bring back obscure characters from Sonic's past like Honey and Breezie.
-I hope that when they choose what characters to focus on that game characters and comic/cartoon characters related to game concepts are given preference over pure cartoon originals.
-I hope it doesn't come back as a light or no continuity joke/light action comic. Those can be fine, but I like Sonic going out on adventures and having small story arcs.

That idea sounds awful.

ouch words hurt user.

I'm really wondering what the setup will be for it.

They can't use the idea of Mobius or Sonic taking place in the far future since the current Sega stance is that Sonic takes place on modern-day earth.

Eggman isn't a conqueror, he's a guy who invents robots to try and take over the world and is constantly thwarted. Thus there can't be any "Freedom fighters" to fight against him, because that would assume the SATAM setup where he already won.

I've no fucking idea how IDW will try to explain why there are floating islands, magic and furries running around on present-day earth. In fact I'm really curious to see it.

nick TMNT was pretty good when i watched it, like 2 years ago, did it become shit?

>Freedom Fighters coming back is fine, but we don't need to see them every issue, and they don't need to define the story.

Then there'd be literally no point in having them.

I'M PICKLE RIIICK
*dabs*

Yes, it became very unapologetically shitty. Repeating story arcs, Mikey being annoying, Casey being the worst incarnation of the character ever, too many Splinter dies fake outs to the point when it actually happened for good it was unconvincing, the stupid lacklusted quality of the farm and space arcs.

The show became garbage. Truly it is. It's sad how many stupid kids actually think it is good. But anyone with sense can tell you that if your show is literally repeating story arcs like "Let's save Karai! Let's save April's Dad! Let's save Karai! Let's Save April's Dad! Let's save Karai again!" then it is garbage. And speaking of Karai, her mutation being a Non-Mutation was also retarded.

>What are your hopes for IDW’s Sonic?
More use of the villains from the games.

>Your fears?
Really bad art.

>Do you think they’ll reprint and/or finish Mega Drive?
I wish.

>Do you think they’ll bring Ian and Tyson back?
Anything is possible.

P-Please be kind, user! I just wanted to enrich myself with Sonic The Hedgehog comics. You know, The Thinking Man's comic Sonic The Hedgehog!

Nick TMNT is canceled now though. If anything Sanic will cross over with the new show that's coming out next year.

The Usagi spinoff was good

Probably a similar aesthetic to Unleashed

No it wasn't. Having Usagi's story be a 3 parter about protecting an annoying Scrappy Doo fat turd of a brat character made the damn thing irritating to watch.

Sega owns all of the US characters except for the one's Penders got through that shitfuck of a trial

Why does there need to be an explanation for these things? They simply are. One page Sonic is in Station Square, he runs off in the last panel, then he's running around a some technicolor landscape. It's fine.
If you need an explanation you can bring back the zone concept of them being pocket dimensions or whatever, assuming Penders doesn't own the rights to pocket dimensions.

We didn't really lose anybody of importance.

I doubt anybody really misses Julie-Su.

I think Archie owns all the characters they created after the initial series.

>What are your hopes for IDW’s Sonic?

Original stories.

>Your fears?

Game adaptions.

why your post get deleted?

I'm okay with game adaptations (so long as they change things to keep them interesting), but I really don't want this series to start with ANOTHER genesis games retread. We've had so many of those by now, just move on. I'm cool with those Zones returning, just don't want it to be another run through the first five games (including CD).

>all these people whining about how they should drop the FF entirely
>all these people saying the comic should stick to the games only
We had a comic about that, it was called Mega Man. It sold so poorly, it got cancelled. The FF-based comic on the other hand was Archie's #1 moneymaker for years on end. All you people demanding a game-only based comic talk a good talk, but you aren't the ones actually buying the comics, so who gives a shit about your opinions?

Yeah, I'm really worried about getting more Genesis. Sonic Mania will still be in recent memory when the comic comes out so I think it's a very strong chance of us getting more Classic Sonic issues.

I'll miss Lien Da.

....'s tits.

Unless Sega is literally wrenching IDWs arm we won't get game adaptions. They have literally never done an ongoing series that's been dedicated to adapting source material from anything existing. All their licensed franchises have been about an original story and weaving in material from other iterations of it.

The only way this will be a regurgitated game comic is if Sega fucks it up. Which I don't put past them, but it would mean that IDW literally cannot do what they're famous for, and it would be pointless to even use them.

You have bat tits for that

>hopes
That it's not totally bland and that it makes use of the franchise's history, setting, lore, characters, etc. instead of just "Sonic beats Eggman in Green Hill Zone with help from Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and maybe Shadow if we get tired of his fantards begging on Twitter" every issue.
>fears
They get writers that don't care and we get another Sonic Boom-type thing that's totally up its own ass with meta-commentary on the most superficial elements of the Sonic franchise ("how does sonic hold all those rings??? have you ever noticed that sonic fans complain a lot???? sanic memes gotta go fast lol amirite????") and hamfisted social commentary.

>Hopes
Freedom Fighters stick around
>Fears
Penders continues to fuck shit up for everyone.

>hopes
More development for canon characters
>fears
No fucking OCs

I really hope Honey the Cat eventually shows up in the new continuity.

You mean like how Disney brought in popular Star Wars writers even though they wiped the old canon away?

Yeah, actually I think it makes perfect sense.

I WANT EGGMAN TO DEFEAT THE JUSTICE LEAGUE.

By that logic there'd be no point in having Knuckles, Amy, the Chaotix, Team Dark, Blaze, Silver, or pretty much any character that's not Sonic, Tails, or Eggman. Have you ever heard of something called a "recurring character"?

Can anyone TL;DR me on why Archie doesn't have Sonic anymore? And are they starting completely fresh with a new canon?

What do you think she will do?

Legal battles with an old writer/artist. Archie stopped publishing Sonic in December 2016, and during SDCC Sega announced that IDW got the license. New series in 2018 is all we know.

>Can anyone TL;DR me on why Archie doesn't have Sonic anymore?
SEGA upped the the license rights, and Archie either could not afford them or did not want them. Based on them shuttering so many of their own series I'm guessing it's the later.

>And are they starting completely fresh with a new canon?
No one knows.

Whatever it is, she'll be cute while she does it.

Archie got legally fucked by Penders sometime around 2010~ because they didn't have a proper copy of the documents that could've easily gotten the case laughed out of court. This led to a reboot which continued until early 2016, when another ex-writer (Scott Fulop) decided to take advantage of Archie's gross legal incompetence for his own gain. With Archie in the middle of producing Riverdale and SEGA already breathing down their necks over the Penders case and the godawful writing and divergent (in a bad way) worldbuilding the comic was suffering from throughout the early-to-mid-2000s, Archie decided to cut their losses and drop Sonic altogether.

.....so you're a shit eating waifu faggot. Morons like you need to die. If I were in charge of my own series I would create the most cuted and sexiest waifus just for the pleasure of brutally killing them off or write them in ways that none of you would EVER enjoy. Your misery is my gold watch.

I can see why some creators take delight in punishing their fans, they're annoying enough to deserve it.

>SEGA upped the the license rights, and Archie either could not afford them or did not want them. Based on them shuttering so many of their own series I'm guessing it's the later.
Uh, SEGA pulled the license after the latest lawsuit from Scott F. Being Archie's largest moneymaker, and the CEO of Archie investing EVERYTHING in Riverdell, they had to wipe comics since they can't afford them anymore. If SEGA had offered them a renewal on the license, they would have taken it.

See a shrink, goddamn

>between the two of you, you think he's the annoying moron

Boy, someone sure gets upset when a character is called cute.

>Pic

You got no leg to stand on. Sonic is the symbol of global autism. Being a fan of Sonic means you're the autist around here.

>is on Sup Forums
>goes into a sonic thread
>tries to imply someone else is autistic because of their fandom
You're really nailing that superiority thing

>Sonic
>has "THE AUTIST" over his head
I like it.

>comes to Sonic comic thread to talk about Sonic characters
>screams others are autistic
Chris-chan, is that you?

Well you went from zero to bitch in no time

Think we'll get a secondary Sonic title, like Sonic Universe? I adored having a book following what the other characters are doing.

A symptom of autism is getting irrationally angry over shit that doesn't matter, like Sonic girls being cute.

Autism

Blaze the cat not being a sonicfied Blaze Fielding seems like a wasted opportunity

I hope a book like Universe gets made under IDW. It'll only happen if the main comic sells well. I'll know I'll be doing my part and actually regularly buy issues of Sonic for the first time in my life.

Sonic character designs/names get swapped around a lot before they're finalized. Rouge the Bat was at one point named Shadow, and Blaze early on looked a lot more like Shadow (but that bit of concept art was not originally for Shadow, nor was she originally meant to take his place in Adventure 2). Most likely the idea to name her Blaze came after the design was created. Also, you can only have so many characters who are based on other properties. Flickies, Bean, and Honey are pushing it.

I'd like something original, not a continuation of SatAm, or the Adventure games, or Forces. Just something different. And if it's shit, I want it to be funny as fuck shit, not boring ass shit.

>Hopes
The Freedom Fighters or Expies of are included

What the fuck did Scott Fulop create that he wanted money for?

Hope: Character development. SEGA doesn't have the team on a tight leash like they had Archie on post-Pender drama, and allows Sonic to flourish as a character instead of being the same generic two-dimensional caricature he'd been recently

Fear: Episodic garbage, no plot development whatsoever

>not Sonic/The Flash

Chaos Emeralds + Speedforce mane

archiesonic.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Characters_introduced_by_Scott_Fulop
The big ones (if you can call them that) are Mammoth Mogul, the original Fearsome Foursome, and Merlin Prower.

Hopes
>50% Comedy, 25% Comfy Adventures, 25% Action
>Focus primarily on video games
>Rework the animal friends from the games into fresh variations of the Archie and Fleetway Freedom Fighters
>Have the game-original characters be front and center
>Stop with the fucking maudlin shit

Fears
>Serious Interpretation of Sonic
>70% Action, 20% Furrybaiting 10% Comedy
>OCs that are obviously the Archie Freedom Fighters, but are "totally not"
>Zero focus on the games

>>Focus primarily on video games

i will never understand why people want this

>why do people want the game characters to be the focus of this game based comic

Because the Archie characters by and large just get in the way

>What are your hopes for IDW’s Sonic?
The Freedom Fighters.
> Your fears?
No Freedom Fighters.

SEGA made a shitton of locations and characters but none of the fucking comics ever do much with it in favour of some jack-ass Captain Planet furries having increasingly serious storylines. It's like doing a Mario comic, but it doesn't take place in the Mushroom Kingdom, the only characters are Mario, Toad, and Bowser with the rest of the cast being from the live-action movie and everything is super serious.

Sonic was a much more fleshed out character with more development after the mandates were put in place.

>read the comic off an on
>The Fighters Arc was great, really wanted to see more Honey
>This issue gets announced, get excited
>Don't hear about the cancellation until later

Fuck me
