He is loved by the fans that love the grim gritty brawler types. He's like Wolverine with a cooler weapon and a D&D origin. Somehow the fact that he is almost not really a superhero but a RPG fantasy character roaming around in a superhero setting beating up on cape villains is considered fucking amazing to them.
I can sort of see the comparison to He-Man in that regard.
