Bad until they can confirm with absolute certainty that Karl Urban is Judge Dredd.
None of this "in talks" shit.
I don't know about live action.
Dredd on a TV budget might have to cut a lot of corners.
Plus it'd be easier to get Karl into a recording booth for a week than to have him commit to half a year of shooting.
That's not to say that he wouldn't do it. Because he's awesome. But I want him to do what's best for his career. Because the more Karl Urban in our lives, the better.
If its not PG-18, its shit by default.
I disagree, it should not exactly be sanitised but you can have a good dreed show without going all out on that shit.
Dude, you sound like the kind of guy who approved of the RoboCop remake
I'm not sold. It's a nice short but the production looks pretty spotty. Some shots are great, but others show how little they had to work with.
Plus there's a difference between a 30 minute short you can polish until it's releasable and a 10 hour season that has to be done by a certain deadline.
The idea that it won't just be about Dredd is a good approach. Judge Dredd was always brilliant when it focused on the citizens of MC1. However what also made these stories food was how for most of the part, they were very economical in their storytelling. So the idea that each episode will probably be the same length is probably not the best approach for MC1. Wouldn't mind having a mix of 1hr long episodes, multi-parters and short episodes ranging from 10 minutes to 30 minutes.
yeah, we need urban to be Dredd
Here's the monkey-pawn:
Urban will be Dredd but the shows will focus on other judges because Karl Urban has a busy schedule.
What you want to see in the show?
>the fatties
>season finale teasing the dark judges
This honestly seems like the most plausible outcome
How is that a monkey paw? I'd love for a miniseries that was almost COPS style, showing a different street judge every week. My favorite X-files episode was the Freddy Kreuger/COPS crossover. I don't give a fuck. They're not all Dredd. Hell, I'd love a miniseries showing a judge on the long walk. You know what? I think I'd just like literally anything Dredd related.
>Graveyard Shift
>Sunday Night Fever
>Sob Story reimagined as a Kickstarter-like show
>Judge Hershey
If they put in Boing, it'll be a great sign that they understand the tone of the source material.
They get Karl for first episode. Episode ends with Dredd getting fucked up enough to need a full rejuve/face change. Recast next episode with younger/cheaper actor
>Dredd only appearing on a few episodes, with "DROK IT'S DREDD" cameos where he just goes on a daystick perp-beatdown that puts other Judges to re-evaluate their methods in terms of efficiency
>Judge Hershey
Didn't even have to look at the name field.
She deserves it.
With solid unknowns as secondary Judges this could be good. Plus hot lesbian Anderson action for sweeps.
>tfw we might get Judge Death
>citizens of Mega City One
>you have been judged
>the crime, life
>the sentence, death
>*footsteps of JUSTICE begin*
>and as for you, Dredd
>*sound of bike starting*
>Judgement time.
I'm hoping for lots of cheesy Dredd one-liners desu.
...
Do you want Mega city one to be grimdark or colorful?
The Crime is life
>or
I'd like it to be both, depending on the ep. Like, I sure as fuck wouldn't want a grim and gritty MC-1 in a Boing episode. It's why I like that the first two pieces of concept art are Mega-City and the Low Life. Like it's possible for the show to be both depending on where you look.
That said, a lot of it depends on budget and scripts.
...
Mega City One is BIG. It should have every kind of city scape.
Who said coulors can't be grim?
Mean Machine.
And give me an episode where he's a law-abiding citizen to the point Dredd wants to off him.
Karl should stop being a cocktease and sign on already.
No you sign first.
>democracy storyline and Wally Squad confirmed
Noice.
People can shit on Stallone Dredd all they want but Mean Machine was fucking cool in that
What when? Source?
>yfw they open with America
Them fucking practical effects. Holy shit.
Mmm... I'd actually prefer if they used it as a season finale, or even the first ep of season 2. Give viewers enough time to familiarize themselves with the judges, even to sympathize or at least to admire them, and then hit them with how monstrous they can really be.
Mean's makeup was all done by Chris Cunningham, who went on to find fame as a director in his own right - you've probably seen his Aphex Twin videos for "Come to Daddy" and "Windowlicker".
>whole episode is three judges struggling with a gang, huge stand off where they're hesitant to enter the building
>Judge Karl Urban shows up, walks in the front door shooting and walks out in five minutes
>end episode
Judge Noob:
"What the Fok was that?"
That would be pretty neat, especially if the other judges get routinely killed off and replaced with new ones.
I'm less concerned about Dredd himself than I am with Mega-City One, since the city is the real star of the series. If it was underwhelming in the feature film, that doesn't leave much hope for the TV show.
...
>"THAT was Judge Dredd!"
Geez Dredd what do you got against fat people?
For Dredd, it was Tuesday.
Come to think of it, it's pretty rare that it's _not_ Tuesday for Dredd.
Tuesday 7/12.
Being fat in a world of heavy labor and limited resources must be a pretty big offense for a straight laced guy like Dredd.
>LOW-LIFE CONFIRMED
We're one step closer to the dream, kiddos. I don't care if Dredd doesn't appear in this show at all, as long as I get my crusty husbando.
But if Dredd does appear, and it's Urban, I hope we get a more comic-accurate Mega-City. I loved Dredd's aesthetic, but the time has passed.
He does get more flustered by a singing Klegg and a pickup bar for Judge fetishists than he did from being torture to near death for days after committing the greatest act of mass murder in human history.
(meanwhile, Anderson was investigating the other Judge fetishist bar. And possibly Hershey)
Do we know what Network is thinking of picking this up? This could be amazing, also I say Urban as Dredd or maybe make him a younger version of Dredd in flashbacks. Isn't the whole thing with Judge Dress that he ages in real time? So we can start off with an old veteran Dredd dealing with all the new changes and young judges.
Until they announce a network or streaming service has picked this up, it's not worth getting excited about.
You aren't interesting just because you're negative, user. Either let people be excited for things or give into your edginess and kill yourself.
>Dark Judges
>Cursed Earth
>The Pitt
>Dredd the Moon Sheriff
>Umpty candy
>Walter
I AGREE
with copious amounts of green screen it'll be fine.
you can pretty much show as much gorey violence as you want on american tv so it won't be a problem.
Democracy storyline would only work after like 3 to 4 seasons of seeing Dredd and the craziness of mega city one and how democracy would literally not work ever because of how lazy degenerate and insane people in mega city one are.
You do one episode in season one. Just the dems taking over the news station and then Dredd pushing their shit in with brutal efficiency. You would need two sets, the news station and the voice over's hab and that's it. Anything beyond that in the storyline would require more resources. The demonstration scene? A fucking nightmare to shoot and impossible to do it justice on the cheap.
This could be awesome.
They could barely pull it off with a movie budget. And even then they had to set it almost entirely indoors to save money.
A tv show would have to go outside ...on a tv budget. It's going to be bad.
And unless anyone but HBO picks it up, it's going to be written poorly, with a shit budget.
>"in talks"
At this point it's on the show people, not on Urban.
>"I am in discussions with them about that. I told them that if they write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function, I will be there. I would love to."
>Title drop
Remember how the Robocop tv show turned out?
>Judge Giant's Hondo-Cit Judge impression is so offensive that Judge Dredd's pancreatic cancer practically explodes and he is unable to ask Giant to stop being so drokking racist.jpg
>tfw you used to be an Andersonfag but JA's Hershey worship rubbed off on you and now you've got bob-cut fever
She's just the best. Lawson and Pettifer are good too
>Isn't the whole thing with Judge Dress that he ages in real time?
Yeah, every Dredd story (other than explicit flashbacks and such) is set a hundred-something years after it was published.
>narration by Judge user
Goddammit why does this fucking meme get me every time.
They're all good, man. But yeah, Hershey's the best.
Armon Gill remains the most relatable Dredd villain.
Violence levels aren't why the remake sucked.
