Yes.

Yes.

yes

I'd say yes but that wouldn't be contratian enough

Years later and it's still one of the more impressive looking cg movies.

I didn't get it but then again I was a dumbass kid who didn't understand the references.

>actors acted out the whole movie so the CG looked real
>Johnny Depp being Johnny Depp
>Fear and Loathing reference
Yep, it's a kino

Honestly I saw it on TV last weekend and I was amazed by the quality of production in general. The cgi quality is truly great, the water effects, the creature design, while the script is tight and is not your everyday Disney fare.

Yup, kino indeed.

yes

Yeah, Verbinski's second best behind Mousehunt

it was good but the color palette was complete trash

Patrician taste, friend

Gore Verbinski is probably my favorite director. Really loved Rango in theater

The art style is just gorgeous and it's one of the most groundbreaking films in animation since Toy Story

......did these ppl watch the same movie as me?
i couldn't get thru the beginning

Can't say he's my favorite, but he's criminally underrated, don't know what his problem is. Maybe he's just bad with script handling.

How do you mean? He brings his own style to projects and makes them feel almost like there's a wink wink at the audience that it's supposed to be enjoyed as a movie and not an immersive experience. Like you're watching a performance instead of seeing a story, if that makes sense. Not in a bad way of course I love him, but it's just very old Hollywood and probably what turns most people off from him

Holy shit I didn't know that was him

I think he lacks some basics of storytelling sometimes. Rango and Ring were great, but all his loud commercial blockbusters sucked. Except for pirates maybe, but I'm the only one who thinks so.

Have you watched it recently? It's amazing.
>launched the Dreamworks brand
>sprung the future director of Pirate of the Caribbean into the spotlight
>one of the last great slapsticks
>features live animals that were trained to perform the necessary actions
>closest thing we'll ever get to a real life Tom and Jerry
>fantastic musical score
>AND it's a Christmas movie

>all his loud commercial blockbusters sucked
It was probably Disney interference. The stories were also garbage for 2 and 3, so you can't fault the director for them I guess

>The stories were also garbage for 2 and 3

How? They are far beyond anything Disney could've shitted by itself.

I just didn't find them engaging. Two felt like the first half of a movie stretched out to feature length and three was alright except for the league of pirates or pirate kings or whatever
