Do the black guy and the white girl get together?

Lord of the Rings. Only non-readers would disagree.

its for old people, let them have their fun

Needs more diversity

Pretty much all of them. Cinema is a puerile medium that will never reach the heights of literature.

Is it a 'remake' when it's based on a board game?

Yes, obviously

Of course (unironically)

>What are some totally unnecessary film adaptations?

I'm surprised how well this did. It was horribly mediocre and strangely phoned in given the talent of the older actors.

It did well enough that they'll do Death on the Nile next. It's good that there's something other than capeshit but cmon, adapt something Hollywood didn't already do? There are more stories for fucks sake.

Yeah, this movie made BANK. The lead actor (who I think also directed) was great, but everyone else was pretty meh. Looked great though.

Depp and Dafoe were totally phoning it in when I guess they were supposed to be the big name draws.

It wasn't bad, but it really was unnecessary. Fluid morality isn't exactly a new thing in this day and age. Back when it was published, sure, but now it's commonplace. It's only a big deal for Poirot, but since we know shit about him, we wonder what the big deal is.

I can only imagine it did so well because people thought it would be like the very well done And Then There Were None remake miniseries.

I figure it was riding the Downton Abbey pop-culture wave.

Re: VERY NECESSARY adaptations, pic related.

He actually might not be too bad as Wadsworth, he won't touch Tim Curry's performance, but it could still be alright.

>Back when it was published, sure, but now it's commonplace. It's only a big deal for Poirot, but since we know shit about him

This is a good point. This story is like a turn of the tide for Poirot, learning to accept no clear answers, no straight story that ends in apprehending the bad guy at the end. But since this is the first of the reboots it's a turn that has no meaning to the viewer.

>I can only imagine it did so well because people thought it would be like the very well done

I think there's a giant vacuum beneath the capeshit and starshit giants. Studios don't want to compete with the juggernauts, but then some bullshit like this movie or fucking Jumanji hits a sweetspot with a large number of people tired of the blockbusters.

I watched this movie in amsterdam. I remember I had to pee so bad because i’ve Had 2 beers before. Not only the movie was shit, I almost peed in my pants

I have no idea what the story of the Nile book is they're apparently doing next. Is it actually good/interesting?

It's funny how Poiroit doesn't excuse murder but then becomes a murderer himself.

Sort of.

A high budget TV series would be great.
With each book being a season.
And each chapter an episode.

yes and they make a big deal of it

I thought it was terrible. It strayed too far from the book and was full of unnecessary (((diversity))). Why were there black police officers in Israel? Why did they change Arbuthnot from being an uptight officer to a snarky doctor? Why did Hardman fake a German accent? Why does Poirot seem more like James Bond than a detective? Why was there slapstick comedy? Why did they add the unnecessary subplot of Ratchet's assistant embezzling money? Why was the count beating up reporters in the bar at the beginning?

Everything about it felt superfluous. Really disappointing.

I agree with the points except about the doctor; seemed fine.

In particular the assistant embezzling money bit didn't make sense: if his aim was to set up the murder then why complicate things?

Everyone who enjoyed or was involved in the making of the Tintin movie should kill themselves.

>A high budget TV series would be great.
>With each book being a season.

>he hasnt seen the complete dogshit that is game of thrones

Yeah, it's great. Read the book and watch the David Suchet version.

It was fucking amazing WTF are you talking about.

I was pretty interested in this movie knowing nothing really about the book. It sucked..it sucked so bad felt like a waste of time to watch
