Ralphie was a loose cannon with no real loyalty to anybody. At one point he even talked about making a move against Tony. Ralph was good for a laugh, but it was the smart move for Tony to take him out of the picture. Otherwise, he would have inevitably done something impulsive to put the whole family in jeopardy.
