Carol Ferris

What does DC have against Carol, exactly? At this point, it's just sad that she's constantly being passed around like a piece of meat, not being allowed any agency or even a life outside of which idiot the writer wants her to fuck.

Did everyone just forget that she's supposed to be a somewhat ruthless businesswoman who builds aircraft for a living? Hell, did everyone forget that she's a classical Green Lantern villain?

I figure that either, nobody involved with Green Lantern is interested in her, yet keep her around for whatever reason instead of just having her fuck off back home, or they're all too stupid to put two and two together and have her use her access to alien technology to corner the untapped commercial spacecraft market on Earth.

Poor Carol, she's been treated worse than Wonder Woman over the years, and that's saying something.

>STILL no Carol doll

it's sickening

Will Hal accept her back after she dumped him and got pregnant by Kyle?

cuz she a bitch

I believe you, but I don't care about GL.

Star Sapphires going good was a mistake. They're even less interesting than the fucking Indigos now.

Carol trying to keep a raging horde of possessive maniacs as a force for good could be interesting but they had that for the Yellow and Red Lanterns instead.

Really, she doesn't even get an SHG doll? That' kinda gross, actually.

What does she owe you money, DC? Why do they hate this character?

Geoff Johns decided that all non-Lantern GL supporting characters are not worth the time, and since then the only way for her to be featured is to shoehorn her as the girlfriend lantern.

>Treated worse than Wonder Woman
I wouldnt go that far, user. She can't be a villain now because shes gained better control over her powers and I suppose the reason shes so relationship heavy is because her powers are derived from love. I do agree that she needs some work, just thank god shes no longer with Kyle

>and have her use her access to alien technology to corner the untapped commercial spacecraft market on Earth.
This would be wonderful

Too bad once sure shows up again they'll probably have her fuck John or Baz since apparently accessorizing GLs is all she's good for

New Guardians run could be considered non canon (well most of it) since most of the events are never mentioned such as Kyle making the WL corps, Carol is shown to be still running Ferris air during her 2nd appearance of Rebirth in issue 8 or 9 of GLs, Carol can't be a villain now since they changed the Sapphire from a Jewel into a ring making it easier to control because if you READ GL you would know the crystal is too much to handle that even a Zamoran died when they tried extracting it. OP are you even reading comics or just blowing smoke out of your ass?

>yet keep her around for whatever reason instead of just having her fuck off back home
Isn't that where she currently is after she got sent to character limbo?

>and I suppose the reason shes so relationship heavy is because her powers are derived from love.

but they already explained that SS powers can work on non-romantic love too fairly early on, love for her job or something could easily apply

Hi, Cranky.

Thing is, Johns had complete control of the GL franchise for a long time, and he had revamped Carol into something remarkably less interesting by basically just making the Star Sapphires into Violet Lanterns. And there's not a whole lot you can do with Violet Lanterns that's unique, especially when your Lantern stories revolve around flying around shooting beams at other Lanterns.

But the consequences of that didn't come till Johns left the book, and the subsequent writers didn't really have anything for her to do. Her and Kyle both got shipped into a containment book, but once GL could no longer support multiple books, both of them faded into the distant background.

This is why I like the early parts of Johns' run better, before it went fullblown space opera.

Said it more succinctly than I.

I'd start about how someone needs to figure out something for the Star Sapphires to do, but frankly, the fucking Greens have been in the same rut of doing jack shit and not being space cops.

It's little wonder the other Corps are directionless, nobody can figure out what to do with the title characters.

Which is funny, because Johns was the last writer to remember to give her a personality, and that she maybe ought to, y'know, do stuff.

Right but what Im saying is its an easy plot writers fall into with the added benefit of drama.

I mean ideally editorial just has to say "hey, stop doing that shit" and they can not do it.

>This is why I like the early parts of Johns' run better, before it went fullblown space opera.

It is quite remarkable how much Johns's GL just... died artistically after Sinestro Corps War. Rainbow Lanterns were a mistake.

Is it me, or do are Star Sapphire colors really inconsistent? They're supposed to be violet, which is supposed to be in the same ballpark as purple, and yet sometimes it looks Magenta or in some cases borderline pink. Am I just crazy or colorblind?

Carol's always been in a bad place due to how the Star Sapphire thing worked. "It's not her fault! The space gem's making her crazy!" is a poor basis for a villain to begin with. Making her one of the good guys didn't help much either, as it really just made her into another Lantern.

>It is a another statue quo girlfriend.

Hi.

>and there's not a lot you can do with Violent Lanterns that's unique.
Shit of it is, you're right. The only real suggestion I got is to make them a general purpose charity organization. I mean, the Indigos already kinda do that, but they're more of a reform program.

Much as I think people are a bit unfair to Johns, he really failed to properly think out the various color corps.

>did everyone forget that she's a classical Green Lantern villain?
She is?

None of the writers ever seem to even think about exploring non-romantic forms of love. Friendship, comradery, family, worship, patriotism, objectification, really any kind of invested emotional attachment.

Maybe the Sapphires could serve the important function of maintaining these connections like they were fairies making the snow fall and the flowers bloom. It'd be something at least.

Non romantic love isn't as ripe for shitty cheap drama though user!

Oh of course! How could I forget? How silly of me wanting something interesting to happen.

Just because a writer created a justification for her not to be a villain doesn't mean she can't be reverted. It would be negative character development, but it was a more interesting dynamic and comics could use more female sociopaths.

Star Sapphire

You could always argue Carol was never a villain and it was the Sapphire all along seeing as it did launch to Deborah and Carol as a villain was awful and always soured the Story, like how when Hal and Carol settled but the persona returned and she left for space or how it always ended up as her being defeated and the memory being repressed.

So do Star Sapphires have any additional abilities beyond the basic constructs most Lanterns can do? Reds have napalm, Larfleeze can steal souls, Sinestro Corps don't have anything from what I recall

They can put them into Stasis crystals which show things that they love and prolong exposure can essentially brainwash them. How do you not know this if you know what the other corps do?

I'd be fine with Carol going bad again so long as it was her misusing her powers of her own free will and not her being possessed by the gem/evil split personality again. Which won't happen because it would require more effort.

Because its been a while since I've read anything relating to the Star Sapphires user.

I dunno. That would be interesting, but Carol has never been evil. It would be an odd character direction, and probably piss off a lot of people.

Yellows can also show people what they fear although it's usually not shown. Green is the most vanilla out of all the colors. Star Sapphire is pretty twisted since it's revealed Fatality was fucking John, her planets killer out of her will because she was brainwashed thanks to the Star Sapphire crystal SS can also find their "love" anywhere in the galaxy by shooting out a construct harpoon out of their tits/naval.

I'd be okay with Carol being a villain again, frankly. Cause again, it'd be something for her to actually do. And no bullshit about her being brainwashed this time. Carol can be pretty vicious all on her own.

Maybe she starts getting up to questionable things while trying to build spaceships. Maybe she becomes a kind of drug dealer and starts offering small dosages of the crystal prison in exchange for stuff she needs. Maybe she decides that all this color war shit needs to end already and makes plans to shut off the lights.

... Y'know what, it's really not that hard to come with shit for the Sapphires to do if some random fuck can pull a few out of his ass. Lazy bastards just don't care.

Can't she be morally grey doing the good old crystal prison brainwashing thing for the greater good stuff? I kind of want her to be with Hal again, only this time she treats her Sapphire job like her aircraft business

I'd be down for that. Thing is, they did try that with the Sapphires for a bit, but for whatever reason, it didn't take.

>treats the corps like her aircraft business
Now I have the delightful image of the corps remodeled to have a corporate structure and image. Star Sapphire Incorporated.

They could still do it by making a rivalry thing with the greens, the set up is there. Sapphires have killed planet, Zamorans hate Maltusians, What they're doing is unethical, Sapphire rings can be received by villains, etc.

>Now I have the delightful image of the corps remodeled to have a corporate structure and image. Star Sapphire Incorporated
Carol restructuring the Sapphires to be run more like a corporation and then using them for shady space side business while still passing them off as a force for love on the outside would be beautiful

Right? We have corps that act like military, tribes, nomads, and renegades, why not have one be treated like a business? The corporate structure would be a good opposite to the entire love thing

What kind of services would they offer? Dating profiles of course, wedding plans, relationship counciling, various consumer goods, etc.

And that's just the public stuff. Not great for PR to openly advertise the escort service, and abuser assassination.

They'd do that kind of stuff on the surface but Carol also uses it to make business connections and enrich her access to space tech, then use that to move her earth company ahead of everyone else

>use the corps as a shell company
>sell tech eons more advanced than anything on Earth
>become richest woman on planet
... This needs to be a thing right now.

What runs have interesting evil Star Sapphire? The concept of heightening the negative emotions/reactions related to love is interesting.

I liked her evil in that Batman BATB episode, and in Justice League Doom.

Carol Ferris, Linda Park, and Iris West all need to just be killed off. Their writers aren't just dropping the ball, they're throwing it away. Either pair people up or not, but it's been almost two fukcing years now. Shit or get off the damn pot.

It's weird how some of the classical love interests have been getting some decent spotlight, but not all of them. Steve's doing his soldier boy thing, Lois is a supermom and even went back to the Daily Planet, Mera is outstripping her own husband in popularity, hell, even Selina got to be a mob boss for a bit. Why can't the others get some attention? These are characters who have been part of their respective series mythos pretty much since the beginning. Do something with them.

I see them still as "Galactic Peacekeepers", only more prison/psyche ward type rehabilitation. PR would be using love to correct criminals, when in reality its still the brainwashing shit with crystal prisons and scanning their minds for resources they can confiscate and sell back.
Nah, the only one worth ditching is Iris. Carol still has potential, and Linda to my knowledge hasnt appeared yet and could bring back some good stuff with original Wally. Iris on the other hand is just boring and kind of a cunt lately. Normally I wouldn't side with Hitch, but Barry should hook up with Jessica Cruz now.

Linda was in a few issues of the Rebirth Titans stuff but she is barely around. I don't know why he thinks she should be killed off when she's not even been regularly used in like 7 years

>Steve's doing his soldier boy thing, Lois is a supermom and even went back to the Daily Planet, Mera is outstripping her own husband in popularity, hell, even Selina got to be a mob boss for a bit. Why can't the others get some attention?
I want some classic style love interests. I don't get what's wrong with them that that style has been completely thrown aside.

Everything has to be either a deconstruction subversion or just a big fuck you to classic love interests.

>that expression
... Yeah, Carol needs to go back to being a bad girl.

Source is Justice League: Doom, in case anyone was wondering.

Here, have this, user

Not gonna lie, I kinda like this design. Normally I would be very much boob windows, especially the plunging boob window. But it works here because there's always a bit of a sexual element to Star Sapphire that's actually important to the character's gimmick, that of a toxic seductress. Unlike with Power Girl where it's there for its own sake, and is thus just plain stupid.

Not only has Linda appeared in the new Titans, her relationship (or lack thereof) with Wally was a central plot point for the first half of the run. And as of this most recent arc, she has just outright been written as non-intersted, which in turn set up this horribly cliche garbage of a love-triangle arc between Wally, Donna, and Roy that's happening right now.

*against boob windows

Seriously, her facial expressions in this movie are doing things to me.

>but they already explained that SS powers can work on non-romantic love too fairly early on

I don't remember this.

What I remember is that red and violet are on the furthest-from-green ends of the spectrum specifically because they're the most intense, uncontrollable, obsession-prone emotions.

People don't feel love at an intensity strong enough to qualify for lantern powers over friends or their job.

Lois is killing it right now, though. She's still been able to keep her essential character while being a wife and mom.

You know she can make sassy, confident facial expressions without being evil right?

Yes, but I'm not picky.

>I don't remember this.

Literally the first normal SS lantern we saw was a girl who got the ring because her sister died

So was it ever explained who Star Sapphire was in the DCAU? Cause I'm just gonna pretend it's Carol otherwise.

The only sane SS I remember is Miri Riam, whose origin involves a dead fiancee

Unf.

Does she still love Kyle more than Hal?

It was Carol, just British.

The kind of people who become comic book writers now are comic book nerds. There's no one who knows enough about what's romantic to be comfortable writing romance.

And the audience they're writing for wouldn't appreciate it anyway, they just want DBZ-style punch-ups and power "feats".

"Galactic Peacekeepers" would step on the toes of the GLC as a concept, especially with the common "Guardians are shady as hell" plots. Rather than that they're, on the surface, the equivalent of UN intervention, they safeguard civilians, set up refugee camps, provide medical and humanitarian assistance, and broker peace talks. They also do prison/psychiatric rehabilitation and address social issues. They'll also quickly brainwash or kill anyone they feel necessary, act in a completely mercenary manner, and place their interests and goals above anything else. No one ever said that spreading peace and love throughout the galaxy had to be non-violent and unprofitable.

Hopefully not or she's gonna be mad that he's fucked at least one other woman and kept hitting on Soranik

last time I saw her she was pregnant with Kyle child

Doesn't prison/rehabilitation also step on Indigo's toes?

I'd actually love to see the Star Sapphires, if they "went corporate" as this thread suggests, behave more like a galactic dating service or like a psychic hotline, where people like travel on fucking pilgrimages to Zamaron and ask them to find their soul mate...and then you could have stories about how when they do, maybe the other person is like "I don't care how compatible your magic crystal bullshit says we'd be, I'm not gonna get with a complete stranger out of nowhere"

I used to be a huge fan of her character on the Geoff era, also a fan of her relationship with Hal, even when they were not together it was good to read their interactions (I actually even prefered Hal on that era with Cowgirl).
But I need to be honest, to me Carol has been ruined forever or at least permanently stained, that run of New Guardians and specially the issues by Venditti were awful and too damaging.
To me they can not just erase that lapse of her story, they need to justify in some way, I don't maybe a Durlan taking her place or even Kyle using his White Lantern powers and time on the Wall Source to manipulate her feelings or even to manipulate the reality itself (I think in some of the New Guardians issues is stated that he manipulated the reality to change some things without noticing).
Honestly I just want to see Hal dating someone else before the reappearance of Carol in the issue #37, I do not want to see Hal becoming in some Cuckbolt 2.0, Sora could be perfect for the deed.

Indigo is a personality wipe of the wielder, it's less rehabilitation and more penance.

I feel like the first half of that falls under Blue Lantern territory

Guy used a star sapphire ring very briefly and powered it with his love of the corps

I feel like there are too many different colored lanterns.

On that, I think everyone can agree on. Johns kind of went overboard with Rainbow Corps shit. But then again, we wouldnt have Larfleeze or Atrocitus if he didnt.

Blues are too few to really pull that off. If anything Blues should be wandering samurai/drifter cowboy types.

She better watch out or Kyle will kill it.
>but not tell her that he did.

Yeah but that's like non-alcoholic beer.

So ideally, the different corps have a clear, simple gimmick.

>Green; space cops
>Yellow; evil space cops
>Violet; dating service
>Blue; feelgood religion
>Red; revenge hotline
>Indigo; reformative charity group
>Orange; stealing shit

Seriously, picking on Johns is bandwagon bullshit, but goddamn he ought to have taken a minute to think about what these fucks actually do. But he didnt, and now were stuck with a shitload of characters standing around doing fuck all, like this was Bleach or something.

"Dating service" and "feelgood religion" aren't exactly clear or simple gimmicks.

... How are those not clear?

That was just some shitty one off story that hopefully will go ignored

That's also how John powered his Sapphire ring, and early Venditti GL had a woman who got a Sapphire ring because she loved her tribe

But nope, Carol went full retard and doesn't know how her own ring works

I'm pretty sure they show him thinking about Ice at some point in that story.

It doesn't say anything about how they operate or what exactly they do.

Brainwashing is closer to rehabilitation.

"Penance" is paying a price for what you did.
"Rehabilitation" is changing so you won't behave that way anymore and can fit in as a member of society.

user, if you don't know what dating services and churches do, you may want to get out from under that rock. Just saying.

>Poor Carol, she's been treated worse than Wonder Woman over the years, and that's saying something.
Which is interesting since she is basically Space Wonder Woman thee days

Wait you're trolling. I've been out of the green lantern loop, tell me that didn't happen

You can't start introducing other colors and NOT eventually explain where the rest of the rainbow comes in.

>Beta Fag kiddo Kyle cuckolding Alpha Macho Hal with Hot Mature Carol and making her preggo and forever staining Hal/Carol relationship
>hopefully will got ignored

They spread love and justice

They need to be DC sailor scouts that fight cosmic horrors that cause bad feelings and cause teenage breakups on every planet in the universe.

Except the Indigo rings explicitly make them behave in a way that precludes them from fitting in as a member of society.

I mean what the individual Star Sapphires and Blue Lanterns will be doing.

Their constructs are big pink crystals that infect can infect things with love. If someone is trapped in one for long enough they are brainwashed into a perfect love crazy happy reformed person.

They managed to reprogram a few Sinestros back in 09 and the programming stuck. They are still sapphires.

>early Venditti GL

Yeah, let's hold the guy who forgot emotions are a renewable resource and decided to say "Lanterns are draining the universe dry!" as a bastion of understanding the fucking lore.

Reds also lose all body functions and their heart, so stabbing, impaling them does not kill them.

It was a cool idea t the time because absolutely everyone assumed they would go away again the second blackest night was over.

That didn't happen and now we are just bored with everything

>Except the Indigo rings explicitly make them behave in a way that precludes them from fitting in as a member of society.

The FUCK are you talking about?

The purpose of an indigo ring is that if you put it on a clinical psychopath, someone whose brain is incapable of feeling empathy for other people, it will force them to feel empathy until their brain chemistry changes and they eventually become capable of doing it without needing the ring anymore.

See, empathy is a thing all normal people have, and the Indigos were serial killers because of their psychopathy.

I implied nothing of the sort

Just saying if Venditti got it right with one OC how did he (and Justin Jordan) manage to shit on Carol so hard
