Who the fuck cares about DAEMON: PANTALELE? Everything about this flick screams WE'RE MAKING A FRANCHISE GUYS!!! when everyone who watched LOTR watched it because it was fucking LOTR, not because it was a fantasy movie.

The film itself? Not controversial at all, and if you just watched it you wouldn't get it at all.

In the books, its clear the villains are styled after the church. The real butthurt comes from the third book in the trilogy. Main antagonist is pretty clearly the Abrahamic God and Metatron, waging a war against rebels who want to overthrow the Kingdom of Heaven. MC boy and girl unintentionally kill God

Honestly, the controversy wasn't even really to blame. It was a mediocre movie based on a series that wasn't nearly as popular as the studio that paid for it pretended. Basically, it was a higher budget Percy Jackson.
