Evolution. Humanity have reached a point where there is no competition for ressources. Medicine and food are so prevalent that most people can live +70 years (if they don't directly harm themselves). As a species, we are programmed to "weed" out these traits that are favored in a limited-ressource environment. in favor of genes that are more favorable in a unlimited-ressource environment.
Think of it as bacteria, some bacteria develop resistance toward antibiotic. These bacteria would be strongly favored in the presence of antibiotic. If you remove the antibiotic and let the bacteria multiply, then over time the antibiotic resistent bacteria will be selected against (excessive shit is not need).
