But muh strong female characters and queer representation.
we got confirmation that klingons have double weeners though
I don't remember this scene. What episode was it from?
the last one
TRIGGERED
Its because even the worst star trek series had an interesting/creative underlying premise, even if the execution was off.
All STD has is the central character. Literally. As she's central to every single plot development. Were she removed the show's entire narrative structure would collapse. Before STD this never applied to any star trek character.
That's because you're a racist bigot.
This post is pure, distilled Sup Forums.
hopefully, we'll finally get some klingon fart porn
TERRIBLE show. It might be the thing that kills trek for good.
well it got itself a season 2 so it's not dead yet
No, its dead. They didn't have a choice on the second season. CBS tied all their hopes of solvency to their horrid streaming platform and tied the success of their horrid streaming platform to STD. Cancelling STD would be admitting their streaming platform is a total failure.
Did you enjoy the ending?
But Netflix paid for a lot of it cause of international rights, also did well in Canada
T'AH, P'AH, Q'AH!
...
It felt rushed. The last 2 episodes feel like they were tacked on as a way for the showrunners to be able to throw away the Klingon War arc Fuller envisioned so they could start fresh with season 2.
CLAP
>also did well in Canada
>Canada
Literally who
I still see the party hat.
Saru - Lt Cmdr
Tilly - Cadet -> Ensign
Stamets - Lt
Detmer - Lt?
Airiam - Lt?
Random Communications Officer Man
Asian Filler Man
Big Hair Woman
...
The spoken Klingon was awful the first few episodes, but the people playing Tyler and L'Rell were great speakers which made it so much better later in the season
how do we let these people off the hook so easily? time and time again they disappoint us. They tease us with the promise of a great war ..and then it never happens.
They tease us with a great moral dilemma with the alternate universe emperor.. then it is done in under one episode.
>Klingon-supremacist who wants to destroy the Federation
>Effectively kill her lover, kill the leader of her house and all of her crewmates
>Abduct her, have a Federation captain beat her up to the point that she's bleeding all over in the brig of a Federation vessel
>15 minutes later, give her the power to become a dictator over her entire species (apparently, nobody has thought to put a bomb in the volcano before)
>An entire fleet is now under her control with the power to destroy Earth at her fingertips, which would not only give the Klingon Empire the victory they need to unify, cement her authority, and prevent the Federation from further contaminating Klingon culture, but also give her revenge for everything they did to her personally
>But now that she's been granted the generosity of Saint Michael "Jesus" Burnham, she realizes that Hate is bad and Love is good, so she orders the fleet to pull back
>They actually do
YYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I really hope we get a Chaos on the Bridge doc about the production for season 1, b/c it sounds like it was a complete mess behind the scenes and they basically threw the show together after Fuller left.
I'll be honest, though, I actually really enjoyed the show for the most part but it's clear they didn't really know or care about how to handle the war or the mirror Emperor and Lorca.
calm down and have a Tilly.
literally 1/10
love trumps hate
Her in the golden uniform was literally the only good thing in the show besides saru make up.
I wanna filly Tilly.
...
This is embarassing
Ya know, if they took all the Star Trek references out of it, renamed all the aliens, redesigned the star ships, and just called the show "Michael", I wouldn't have much of a problem with it.
Even then, it'd just be a so-so sci-fi, but at least it wouldn't constantly be subverting a cultural icon.
Though, given the direction our "culture" is going, I suppose it's at least thematically correct corruption. "Don't think about anything, just watch shit blow up around the PC PCs."
That episode where they landed on the planet with the ghostly aliens, had to implicitly trust each other, question their motives, and explored a bit into Saru's mind, examining what it was like to be instinctively living in constant fear, and then to suddenly be released from said, gave me hope... But alas... Back to pew pew J.J.Abrams right quick.
wrong. back to the drawingboard with you.
>Star Trek: Discovery
It's STD
is the upper right one the animated show
ehe, it's DISCO, user.

THAT IS WHO WE ARE
So, it was a season-wide Klingon war episode with a mirror universe twist. I'm not sure if the Xindi fuckup season in ENT was worse. We could just remove the whole season and never have a better clue it happened.
The Dominion war in DS9 was... better than DIS war in a way that if happened to people we already knew and in situation that grown slowly. Reminder, though, that it was not a far-fetched production dedicion from the start.
There's nothing else in Discovery to continue with than Enterprise namedropping, occassional Empero..ress appearances and such. I fear there's nothing to do with developing the crew as persons or giving comfy vibes. Pike-Enterprise storyline will take another season with much dark thingies.
Anti-STD shitposting is worse than pro-STD shitposting.
based disco poster
Lexx was mid tier.
>Michael never overcomes her weird dependency on her mother figure
Why did they do this? The ending is literally her letting off someone who has committed genocide before, is trying it again and had shown no signs of redemption.
feminist power fantasies are so dull
>Saint Michael "Jesus" Burnham
Kek.
Do you think Saint Gabriel will come back from spore heaven to help her? :)
m'm
prime Lorca, mirror Burnham and mirror Discovery all died/were destroyed off-screen "in mysterious way" with no trace left behind. We all know what this means
Tell us, user! Tell us!
this is now /trek/
The absolute state of nu Trek
>strong black woman
>identifies as Vulcan
is she Jewish too?
yeah, too obvious but not gonna watch anymore, already skipped most scenes.
The show sucks, not even worth the bandwidth to download
*whiplash!*
I'm more fascinated by how they did a 180 in the last few episodes and set it all up for a return to normalcy after the fan response.
Now season 2 is being rejiggered to include captain Pike and an Enterprise bridge. No word on how the fuck they're going to solve the whole "discovery" problem. Maybe they're actually going to just say "well, it's about discovering shit right"?
What a mess.
I honestly don't know if the main actress is salvageable even if she's rewritten to not be such an insufferable cunt in the next season, but she'll continue to be the main focus. There's even rumours they'll drag Spock into this (since he's on the Enterprise with Pike canonically) and explore the fact that this is his half-sister.
The guy who plays Tyler also plays Voq
>weebshit even included
feel
she jew?
Genocide is her culture don’t judge her shitlord
>they'll drag Spock into this
I want a Sybok storyline to make things a little less obvious and more interesting.
They were hastily written off because soniqua lacks sufficient range to play a mirror character?
mmmmmm
But what does god need with a starship tho
He could be still be semi-reasonable at this point.
...
STD was strange to me. It started out horribly; both crews on the Shenzhou and the Discovery were all assholes, no one getting along, everyone being snarky and verbally abusive...just awful. I know they were at war, but in DS9 during the war, the respectful interaction was still there...so I can't accept it here.
Then they went to that planet where they explored and Saru went off...and for an episode it felt like Star Trek. Then they got back to the war...and people became assholes again. Then the Mirror Universe happened, which was almost entirely useless because the dramatic power of the mirror universe is that we are intimately familiar with the characters before we see their 'opposites'. That's also why the only person who mattered in those episodes was Killy/Tilly...she was the only character who had a very well defined 'character', so when we found out about her opposite, it was hilarious, especially when Tilly had to act as Killy. But Georghiu's opposite? She's the same, only playing for a different team. Stamet's opposite? The same, only playing for a different team. Bullshit....
Then the rushed last few episodes. I really liked the episode second-to-last...for some reason it felt like Star Trek again...maybe due to the pacing. But then the shit Enterprise-Season 4-Final-Episode-Quality season finale of STD arrived. God, that speech was insufferable, and the motives behind it worse.
I don't know guys. If they wanted to do a season arc, they would have had to plan it and write it properly from before, not change things as they went along. Wasn't Breaking Bad written one entire season at a time? If it was, that would explain why the episodes within were so well structured and paced, advancing each story idea at the right speed so that nothing seemed wrong.
STD was an experiment that failed because the planning wasn't good enough I think. And of course they mangled the 'characters'.
no more wall of text pls
>implying the writers even know who Sybok is
t. STD's core audience.
The gay guy wasn't even straight in mirror universe? Wasted opportunity
Remember when mirror stametz woke up in the mirror universe but the episode acted like this was some sort of dire twist or complex development which caused people to think something other than “fag wakes up” happened? Like that prime stametz and mirror had swapped minds or something? And it wasn’t anything notable at all and the production was just incompetent?
I don't agree with georghiu and mu stamets being exactly the same. But they both got so little screen time it's largely pointless.
Fine.
STD was uneven, but it mostly sucked ass. HAPPY???
Was there ever an "evil" character who had a "nice" counterpart in MU?
Brunt and Quark.
The two last episodes killed this series for me. Up until that point I liked more things about this show than I disliked. But the way they ended the story just completely sucked.
Nah, just trek in general.
I liked how they resolved the war by putting a Klingon hybrid of Hillary and Steve jobs in power. Because she has a biolocked iPad that can destroy Kronos
>STD wraps up
>they're back to discussing shit that is NOT STD
really makes you think
Well, from what Michael kept on saying, Georghiu was intelligent and 'honorable' in the normal timeline. In the mirror universe, her honour shifted but was still there (she didn't double-cross Starfleet, and the only reason Michael felt betrayed was because she wasn't in on the plan).
For now, I can't think of a difference for Stamets, aside from him having a different uniform and working for different people.
But still you'll watch STD season 2, 3, 4 and so on, until the show ends. Why? Because you have to.
>season 2, 3, 4
>Implying this steaming pile of shit will last that long
>Especially with its astronomical production costs
So fucking what? Scan the planet, find the weapon, destroy it, then kill the cunt.
No. After it built up anticipation for fucking nothing at all, I will be sure to binge watch an entire season so I'm not baited into waiting weeks at a time for something that might turn into a steaming pile of shit, like the season finale. So I won't bother with Season 2 until the season finale.
I know you're being facetious but that is the actual attitude of these big franchises, it's fucking disgusting. Wish there could be some new blood to put these old shows to rest and come up with something new for a change
So, you'll watch it. Which was my point, user, dear.
I haven't even watched the middle part of this season and likely never will
>likely never will
>likely
will.
I watched Enterprise and Voyager too. At least when it's shit I will know what I'm talking about when I criticize it instead of parroting back other people's opinions like they were my own.
join us
Nope, I didn't even finish the season finale
I know. This is what I mean by "you have to watch it".
Jesus, who approved this?
edgey, u have to admit
It's pretty amazing how they did that 180 though, they pretty much just said "Fuck it, you've got three episodes to fix this" and it was a fucking mess.
She is probably a great baker, given those forearms...
this only indicates double uretras
Good point. What's this guy good at?
