I've listened to a lot of "underground" stuff, especially a lot of obscure 1960's psychedelic bands, and while some of it is pretty great, it's obvious that the reason it's underground is because the composition and melody structures just aren't good enough to become successful. Or, that the bands simply don't have a diverse enough sound and most of their songs seem similar.
