Tbh i was surprised looking this up a year or so ago.
I always assumed they were mongol related, but they're actually from the whitest haplogroup and essentially predate and are isolated from all interbreeding that happened with their closest cousins - that being the scandinavians.
And the haplogroups just get more diluted the more toward the mediterranean you go.
The only true mongol mixes are found in finns.
In a tl;dr the sami are actually whiter than white people. A little genetic time capsule from tens of thousands of years ago.
