Nope. In 2010 when he was making TCW George explicitly said the dark side is a negative and bad aspect of the force. It's inevitable and you can't get rid of it, but it isn't something where you need 50% dark (selfish, hateful, suffering, hint hint all that shit he explicitly shows in the PT and TCW) and 50% light. You need to accept your dark side but you should strive to stay mostly in the light.

As an era, I think you'd be hard pressed to convince me that the PT isn't the best era.
Even if you prefer some OT aesthetics, or the movies, the PT is literally just the Galaxy at its most rich and vibrant, the tipping point where all the biggest stories take place. TCW is pretty representative of the huge variety in storytelling that can come from the era.
Fall of society and rise of an Empire. The Mandalorian Civil Wars. Galactic war an on unprecedented scale.
The OT era is more gloomy, with the Empire always looming, and the stories usually just revolve around bursts of hope in a bleak Galaxy.
ST era is just the OT era but shinies, until based Rian and Pablo and even Filoni salvage it.

I read that some of the original concepts of the ST era were themed around a Medeival aesthetic. I read that Planets will be entirely self-governed without a Senate, causing much of the Galaxy to degenerate into factions.
The only remnants of these concepts seem to be The Knights of Ren (which seem to have been sidelined), Phasma's armor, and Maz Kanata's Castle.

I don't really like Maz's design or character, but she didn't take me out of the movie.
Although to be fair, I have a high tolerance for special effects. I always see people claim CGI stuff in the prequels takes them out of the movie, but thats never been the case for me.
The problem with the pig thing, and the bird, is that they are shoved front and center of the shots so that JJ could nudge the audience member beside him with a knowing wink and smile.
The Luggabeast on the other hand wasn't so bad. I liked that thing. I like the Teedo too, more than Jawa's. So not ALL the practical creatures in TFA were obnoxious and forced.
