Someone dedicates their most important life developing years becoming the best at a game and becomes a millionaire. Eventually the game dies off like all games do. Suddenly, without any income or transferable skills they come into a crisis where they must work a menial job to support a meager living after living like a king.
It could make a fairly decent life drama. The same could also work using the shell of a child actor instead since the same principle applies.

Esports are honestly even more of a problem because even the highest paid players in the world (top tier dota players) still live very modest lives because of how unreliable their incomes are.

Poor mexican kid is really good at fighting games. Plays at a seedy arcade thats a front for the cartel. The bosses son is his bestfriend and convinces him to go pro. Funded by the mob the kid starts going from tourney to tourney kicking ass and taking names. Anytime he is about to lose some Mexican goons come in and cut the power or some shit. He becomes full of himself, starts placing bets. Makes it to the big league and places rhe biggest bet of his life, thing is the goons can't help him this time. Ends up loosing the match and not being able to pay the cartel back they cut off his hands. Ending scene he is back where he started and you hear the sound of the fighting stick as his uses his little mexican nubs.
