Well that was pretty weak...

Well that was pretty weak. Just the same stock standard sarcastic Iannucci characters parachuted into a different setting.
>he said a funny word!
>Beria is using mildly elaborate wordplay!
>Now Khrushchev is doing it!
>Haha

There were flashes of something meaningful, like the portrayal of Molotov and elements of Beria's personality. But overall such a remarkable piece of history deserves something better than another underpowered Iannucci farce.

It was like a 3rd season episode of Thick of It.

How much is Putin paying you for this

STOP POSTING THE OLD POSTER PLZ

Zhukovs bant Nikita was great

>Add Beria
Ok

>Swap comfy malenkov for idiot slutlana
>Remove trusty Molotov
Not liking these choices

Calm down, Ivan

having buscemi play putin is genius

>Remove trusty Molotov

They did it because of the allegations against Tambor

It was way toned down from his usual, although not as entertaining for that reason.

You can make a movie only so funny when people are constantly being summarily executed (as per history)

...

he raped thousands

It was okay.

to impregnate millions

>no torrent

kek beautiful

Agreed. The thick of it and In the loop are comedy kino, but Death of Stalin is sophomoric and inconsequentual. It´s like an elaborated joke about a topic that the jokester don´t understand. Mediocre and dissapointing.

to save millions

Useless faggot

what? michael palin never raped a tranny. why did they remove him with tambor?

the incredible irony of having to replace one of the disgraced actors in the poster for a movie about stalin's russia.

I saw it and then In The Loop and I definitely liked Stalin better. Is Thick Of It much better than In The Loop?

The fuck you taking about?

>Karl Johnson is still alive
biggest surprise in the whole movie desu

and he didn't look any older than he did in Rome, amazingly.

OUTTA MY WAY FANNY FUCKING SHITS

>Karl Johnson
>was in his late 50s in Rome and Hot Fuzz
>looked about 90
>still looks about 90
He's the anti-keanu reeves

will they ever make same type of a comedy about Hitler?

I like how iannucci is on record saying he made a weak farce from total insanity because he thought people wouldn’t believe the historical record because the historical record was too absurd.

Never seen someone come right out and say, “why yes, I AM that gigantic a hack!” like that before

They made "Er ist wieder da". I don't see why not.

desu reality is weirder then fiction

>er ist wieder da
>comedy

i didn't think it was funny either, but it was still funnier than the death of stalin. i actually liked the latter anyway for some reason.

How does one become this enlightened?

I really wanted to like it but I have to agree

It coudn't decide if it was a satire or a straightforward farce, and in the end didn't do either particularly well

only laugh out loud bits were jason isaacs, the rest was too much like yank comedy

Maybe they wanted to makes a few changes to draw attention away from the reason they replaced Tambor. Like "We didn't take him out because someone somewhere whispered that he might be rumoured to maybe be some kind of sex pest, we were changing the poster anyway, see".

Why are they using д ( D ) for letters A?

Fucking research first before making posters. From the poster alone I see that the movie will be ignorant and nit know what to do.

But it's clearly not that symbol, their A is symmetrical.

WHERE'S THE BIG FELLA

BRILLIANT!

YOU'RE NOT EVEN A PERSON, YOU'RE A TESTICLE

Depends on how many rubles you get per word per post

They do it all of the time in things referencing Russia, they use a Cyrillic-looking font with the Latin alphabet.

MEDIC

I guess because Beria is the second most prominent character and they need to kick someone out in order to include him

>It was like a 3rd season episode of Thick of It
The Thick of It has 4 seasons

yes
Dr Who was on a blast

rt.com/politics/416760-death-stalin-film-pulled/

it was as close as the germans can get to a comedy, which is about as funny as a documentary on abortions.

3rd season episode you illiterate fool

Do Russians not differentiate between Soviet Russia and modern Russia?

not really, since it's still a shithole

Stalin is not hated in modern Russia. There are many statues to him

stalin killed Ukrainians and fellow Soviets, so the majority of Russians didn't suffer more than usual. Plus, he did manage to fight off the Nazis.

Yes, and we understand that no man is pure evil or pure good. He tried his best and did what he thought was correct. We do not let others tell us how to feel about our past unlike Western

It's one of the best comedy programs the BBC ever produced
It is my personal favourite
I wish I could watch it from scratch again

>WEB-DL

>Is Thick Of It much better than In The Loop?
Miles better.

I saw it in a small art house theater with a bunch of geriatrics. I really enjoyed it a lot and I've ordered the bluray.

Isaacs was brilliant and Beale was great as Beria.

>But overall such a remarkable piece of history deserves something better than another underpowered Iannucci farce

It already got something better, in the form of the greatest kino

Honestly he should have learned the lesson from Chris Morris' Four Lions
The real terrorists that inspired the film were as if not more ridiculous, and all that stuff was put in the film and it really worked
>the canadian cell that plotted to kill the prime minister with a remote bomb but the detonator only had a range of 5 meters
>the group that planned to destroy an American warship in the gulf of Iran but when they loaded the explosives onto the boat it just sank into the harbour
>one of the principle organisers of 9/11 who took 2 hours preparing for an interview becuase he wanted to find something that didn't make him look fat
He should have given the audience more credit desu, I love armando, and as good as it was it wasn't his best

More four lions terrorist stories in this chris morris interview, opie is excruciating but morris more than makes up for it
youtube.com/watch?v=xxkoYL8oHec

I enjoyed it a lot more on a second viewing

Yeah, his Zhukov was great and reminiscent of Lord Flashheart

Captain Lorca was good.

>>he said a funny word!

so much this. Too many scenes where the punchline was just "they're swearing"

That's Iannucci for you. Everything except very early thick of it is like this.

Michael Palin was molotov

Spoken like a man that's never seen Brass Eye, Time Trumpet, The Day Today or The Armando Iannucci show.

Would a Marxist intellectual such as myself enjoy this film?

The problem was that they used basically the same format as the thick of it but without the thing that made the thick of it, peep show and four lions the GOAT comedy that they were

These two writers werent part of it
Armando is a brilliant producer but these two do not get the credit

t. moron who doesnt know what he's talking about

how fitting

...

You've literally only seen The Death of Stalin and The Thick of It haven't you

youtube.com/watch?v=mvexwF2HLJs

"No one was killed, but a lot of people were surprised."
Time Trumpet is severly underrated.

Also if you haven't seen it watch the pilot they made 2 years before the full series. youtube.com/watch?v=I0JFTL5DpHA

Great introduction or greatest introduction?

>that's me told

I cracked

I never knew that was the pilot, will smith wrote a lot of time trumpet as well btw
Shame how underatted it is, it's the same with the armando ianucci show but that was 9/11's fault understandably, bad time to premiere a comedy show

Have some great ianucci interviews with the one of the original writers of on the hour, if you haven't seen them

I loved Paul Whitehouse's entrance.
Especially as he wasn't on the main poster so his appearance caught me by surprise.

Yeah, I thought at first that the "You can kiss my Russian ass" joke was going to be about Malenkov shitting on the Ukranian Khrushchev and Georgian Beria for being from "lesser" republics but it turned out just to be a "kiss my ass" joke with a "Russian" added for no reason.

youtu.be/yFqFLo_bYq0?t=15

A great deal of the supreme soviet was made of non-russians both beria and stalin were georgian and that is just one notable example

Either way it was still poor writing, situational comedy is what armando is best at
It's no coincidence that the funeral scene was one of the funniest

Mikoyan's portrayal as a used car salesman type character was pretty true to life.

>dasvidaniya music plays

Beggars can't always be choosers, George

>the kept the Beria rape as a sub-plot

What was the grenade?

that was really strange

A tomato what are you deaf and blind

>No..... problem!

Why was Molotov important?

He was the one who was most dedicated to the old party. Everything he says is "this is how Stalin would have wanted it"

Until he is in private where acknowledges how horrible it is.

It's retarded vatnicks mostly. Why not praise shitty goverment, when it bans movies that may hurt your fee-fees?

Doubt the movie will be accurate(or fun, judging by anons posts), but I'll watch it anyway one day.

it's pretty funny

I had expected more people here to like it.

This fucker was so visibly sketchy

The idea was good, but the execution is like when you think you're going to let out a ripper fart but it's just a silent odour.

I thought it was hilarious. My only gripe is that I think it easily should have been much better

Who is Sup Forums's favorite stalinist?

>Yezhov

Who's Yezhov? I don't remember anyone called Yezhov.

profound
