nobody is original, not Griffith, not one. what is original? countless things have an influence. its a never ending cycle of tracing back.Griffith was a pioneer but he drew from a lot of things just like every other pioneering artist in every field throughout history. he might've been influenced by a billboard or a painting. everything in art is derivative of something else conscious or unconscious and that's the good thing. "originality" is just a cheap word and even sillier to discuss who is or isn't. "Good artists copy; great artists steal" like Picasso said
