His presence was missed in The Return. I know they had some Badalamenti music, but generally its spot was replaced with Dean Hurley's ambient score. It was more fitting for the new series, but Twin Peaks itself lost a lot of its charm.
Even the actual visuals of the opening sequence didn't set the tone like the original series.
