Have any ideas for your own cartoons?

A kid gets caught looking at porn by his parents, they think something's wrong with him and send him to an asylum for disturbed kids. He befriends an unpredictable psychotic boy and a moody girl who's done with everyone's shit and they go on surreal misadventures together.

That sort of reminds me of the other asylum-related cartoon idea that gets posted in a lot of these threads

Nah but a couple for comics.

Though I would like an action cartoon based on Cattle Raid of Cooley.

A comic idea that I am kind of sort of working on in a super half assed way.

Because I am terrified of failure if I sincerely give it my all and find out that my best just wasn't good enough

yeah. I almost thought this was that asylum user

Yes, I've been working on it for over a year.

Space Western/Opera/sci-fantasy that starts with two fraternal twins, one is a 'lesser' but infamous galactic outlaw space cowboy. The other is a Galactic Federation Academy flunk out space-Samurai.

After years estranged, they're reunited over their father's disappearance and apparent death, having inherited his strange, blackbox ship, and a request list to fulfill some of his final deliveries.

They're also joined by the ship's AI (projected into a robotic avatar), a space princess with no home to return to (due to revolution), and a nightmare-ridden veteran.

They traverse a galaxy filled with mysteries, wonder, and danger, learning more about themselves, the truth behind their pasts, the meaning in the present, and omens of the future. And they will do this all with sick-ass space ships, giant mecha, and psychic powers as they fly through..

The Wild Aether Yonder

Here's one I thought of pretty recently:

A middle-aged barbarian frost giant is cursed and turned into a dwarf.

He tries to find a spell to reverse this, learning several other spells (particularly ice spells) in the process, and becomes somewhat of a wizard.

Since his home is too big for him to live in now, he stays in an inn in a town for more human-sized people. Some of the inn's other regulars include a zombie peasant girl who's all too willing to help him with anything (he treats her more like a minion than anything, at least at first.) and an ogre/troll (not sure which one yet) who's an aspiring barbarian who was a fan of the wizard's back when he was a giant.

The show would be a comedic fantasy (though preferably without anachronistic jokes because those are in pretty much every comedic fantasy) with fantasy elements loosely based off of Norse Mythology.

Not sure if the episodes should be 11 minute or 22 minutes.

A group of Frontiersmen have to establish their own land and meet all sorts of American folklore and mythological creatures along the way

Got any folklore or mythology lined up?

Delete this

I'll be honest, I don't really know the timeline of American folk legends. Like would Johnny Appleseed be around? Paul Bunyan didn't really become popular until the early 1900s, way after civilization was largely established. A lot of native american mythology stuff like skinwalkers maybe.

Ever read this?

No, but it does look intriguing. Why do you ask?

group minds. Humans that exist as members of a collective mind. Each individual acting as a limb of the superego. This only works in groups of 3-6 with a few outlyers. When a member dies it's memories are hosted by those left unless too many key members are lost. This results in soul death.

the main character starts out as a rather aggravating assistant to an arch-wizard.

>Killer Callen and the World of Possibilities
>On a school trip to a R&D facility, a boy is trapped in a room with a malfunctioning McGuffin and blasted into another dimension.
>Fighting his way back home, he finds himself unable to return to his normal life, constantly and unwillingly bouncing from adventure to adventure his life being gambled for riches, glory and the fate of the world.
Adventure of the week show. No real plot beyond the weekly adventures. Bit of a love letter to wrestling, the collegiate kind not professional.

Oh, okay. Sounds interesting, I might check it out if I get the time. What do you think of my idea?

Sounds neat

a fictional series about life in leif eriksons viking colony when he discovered america!

Greaser gang that also has a 9 foot greaser-bot as a part of it

Oh and the robot's creator is considered the non serious villain of the show

sounds fun, just go easy on the elves.

Oh, I didn't really plan on including any elves. What do you mean by go easy on them?

Define unwilling.

Is he going to whine a lot about going on adventures? Because unless it's Rincewind that's actually annoying.

>The Underbaker
>In realm of monsters that exists just beyond the human world, an elderly cenobite looking baker trains a young human girl as his apprentice. Spooky shenanigans and slice of life moments ensue.

An alien scientist stays on Earth for research purposes, and to work on various inventions. He makes a laboratory out of an abandoned observatory, and lives with his human hunchbacked assistant, his pre-teen daughter, and a few robots he built.

basically yet another slice of life piece of bs with humor and action undertones.
set on a land a la DND it follows the story of a group of killed adventurers that were raised by a (not that evil) lich and coming to terms with their new unlife and undead adventures.

i called it "slice of unlife" on my notes.

I do, but I'm scared to death some asshole on here will steal it.

desu i'd be happy if my story was picked up by someone else, it exists, and i can settle with that, even if i dont have the spotlight for its creation.

There's already a dozen ideas in this thread, and at least 5 of them are probably better than whatever you have. Go ahead and post it

>bootyblasted

I wouldn't, because I have very specific ideas in mind for most of my ideas, and they wouldn't know about those and get it all wrong

That's good.

I'm working on it on my free time and it's nice to know people like the admittedly not plot heavy idea.
All the unwillingly part means is that he just doesn't volunteer to do it. Once he's in it, he tends to be in it whole heartedly.

He just doesn't quite have the choice of when. It's actually supposed to be a running gag that when he tries to call his uncle something like an adventure or an enemy will physically impede him.

The gags going to die off quick to keep it from going stale though but that's the tone.

What's there to be butthurt about?

I'm saying that most likely none of the ideas here will get stolen, and even then it'll probably just eb whichever's the best one

A group of old classic Disney/looney tunes styled cartoon are trying to be relevant again to todays youth so they turn to YouTube for ideas. They see all the artsy animated short films/series (think things like salad fingers or I live in the woods) and decide to try to be like them
Quo them trying to vaguely/subtly write/tell a symbolic story or attempt being gory and disturbing but failing at it in hilarious fashion
In the end they all realise they have to copy what's currently popular and learn that they can just be themselves as the videos they post become really popular not do to being very deep or meaningful but simply from how funny they were in attempting to do so

i'd watch this.

A little girl who lives in the belly of a sea monster as it swims all over the ocean

Could be fun

I have too many to count
>Romcom about a hairy midget and his bearded lady bro trying to score chicks while traveling in a carnival
>Adventure story about kingdoms of various Halloween monsters, featuring prophecies, quests and political intrigue
>A young self-centered man is stalked by his female self from another dimension and is convinced to help her take down crime in the city

If you have a good one, share it after October. Some of my colleagues actually browse around Sup Forums and reddit for pitch ideas to use on the upcoming Mipcom.

I mainly steal from Sup Forums.

>Idea
Honestly by this point it's a full fledged pitch that needs scripts hammered out instead of the detailed outlines I got.

It's not an adult series but it's not for children either. The first shot of the series is a guy in an unmarked grave waking up covered in his own blood.

Premise is teen is sacrificed to a war demon and due to the cowardly way he was killed he's brought back to life and given the opportunity to live if he is to beat the men who killed him in single combat.

The idea is not as dark as it sounds nor gorey. Which is actually a bit of the trouble because the tone keeps alternating between adrenaline dump fighting and the mc struggling with the influences his powers are having on his personality.

A series about the lives of space pirates in the late 2300s. Earth has colonized most of the solar system and private space travel is available to only the most wealthy. It's a story about the first group of rejects who retrofit hauler ships into makeshift boarding craft and begin robbing freighters. The aesthetic of the world would be grungy, bulky technology designed to be robust enough to go without repairs for years. A mix of Star Wars and Alien if you get what I mean. the short Film Leviathan also captures the look well.

There just isn't enough media about space piracy.

Sounds like utter shit

What don't you like about it out of curiosity?

There isn't enough media about space truckers either

I've had an idea I've been workshopping since middle school.

It's a cartoon about the adventures of two fun animals. One is rocketpig, a normal pig that can propel itself at mach 5 and then some. The other is doggy dick, a dog-shaped phallus that emerges from the unsuspecting pants of anyone in the world.

The episode starts with a person living their life as they see fit. Suddenly doggy dick emerges at the least opportune time for them and rocketpig flies in from out of nowhere to knock the victim out. They then have adventures in the same vein as Snake 'n' Bacon. The B plot would usually be the repercussions of the said victim being totally removed from their life.

>and the mc struggling with the influences his powers are having on his personality.
You're going to have to expand on this bit.

Are we talking "Crawling in My Skin" here?

No.

It's not angst so much as it is an identity crisis. Was my impulse control as bad before the incident, was I as competitive, was I as violent. Am I entirely there and what is planned for me.

It's not what lies inside, it's what was taken out and what placed in it's stead.

He's not going to be struck by bouts of depression or a desire to brood but very active and loud paranoia.

that is a form of crawling, user. and even if it wasn't the "MC struggling with newfound power and accepting it" has been redone to hell by now.

A caveman-martial artist that fights wild prehistoric monsters and the evil dinosaur empire.

I guess but still I'd like to take a crack at it.

Mostly because I want to tell a version of it with a guy who is genuinely a heroic individual. Instead of the fear being am I a monster the struggle is him very firmly holding on to the core tenets of what he believes and who he is.

This might make it sound like it's going to lead to more angst but he never accepts the powers. I only have four arcs plotted out but from right now I have it very firm in my mind that no matter how long the story goes on he never embraces it as he might.

He uses them. He gets better with them but it's always held at arms length and put down when not needed. Because while he is at his core a competitor and a fighter more deeply than that at his core he has the belief that he lives in a good world full of good people where his heart will never fail to carry him through.

That's where the darker bit of the tone comes in because it's hard. He starts the series run over by a car, has impulse control issues develops a temper. He goes from fighting people whom are greedy and angry to truly malevolent forces that are are still distinctively human but he always overcomes it. Not easily but eventually he always gets back on the good path.

It's sad at times but overall I want it to be hopeful.

You do realize you should have lead with this part right?

am I allowed to reboot an old cartoon, and replace everything that made it good with bright colors and loud noises?

No

A succubus director directs porn in hell

Probably.

A sitcom where every character is from a different time period

Doesn't sound very good

What about it don't you particularly like?

dont worry, youll never make it anyways.

fuck knife ears.

This, also i just started animation school so im going to use everything i learn to refine and polish the stuff i have already done aswell as all the stuff i have yet to draw, i'll only post here until i have at least finished animating the opening of my cartoon

I don't care for elves

not a cartoon but a comic idea about a Super-Natural occult detective with a cute Ghost lady side-kick, they have a TARDIS like museum that travels around the world and is a Occult and Supernatural Museum with the displays being mementos from past adventures

After an after school adventure a Jock, a Cheerleader, two nerds who are secretly gay for each other, and a quiet girl all play D&D together think that D&D cartoon, Breakfast Club, and Harmon Quest mixed together.

Imagine League of Extraordinary Gentlemen but with musical ballads.

Set in the 80's it revolves around a pseudo-detective agency with
>An easily enraged Boy Named Sue
>A light hearted but physically unstoppable Cajun Joe.
>Born again Christian Sharpshooter Rockie Racoon
>And retired spaceman Major Tom
>With Mrs. Robison as secretary.

Together they go around getting involved with all kinds of crazy episodic schemes while exploring group dynamics. The whole show is basically an excuse to have Easter Egg after Easter Egg. Some idea's I've already though of include.

>A Hannibal Lecter styled Excitable Boy
>Werewolves of London vs. Father McKenzie
>A showdown at the Japanese Gambling den, the House of the Rising Sun.

Okay word of advice, since you sound like this is more than just an idea for you.

Throw the fuck away that god-awful pitch you had earlier. This post and it's details served to sell your idea far more than that ever did and gave it more heart and character.

You want to sell this not the previous idea.

Lots of comic ideas with pretty detailed outlines, but on a deeper examination they can be reduced to "x meets y" which means they aren't very good.

>have this idea for a big sprawling story about espers being introduced to society and changing the power balance completely
>just reading the summary to shin sekai yori makes me feel my idea is wholly obsolete
y-yay

>on a deeper examination they can be reduced to "x meets y" which means they aren't very good
You can literally reduce any form of media that exists to "x meets y", that doesn't necessarily constitute an argument for dismissal (not that I disagree that a lot of the ideas on this thread are shallow and poor).

Just for fun, how about we take every idea in this thread and see what "x meets y" descriptor fits best for it

adapt forever war

I wanna try it on major comics.

Batman:Rich kid meets crime, gets scarred for life.
Superman:Alien child meets Earth, wacky adventures.
The Flash:Man meets speed force, becomes superhero.
The Punisher:Man meets crime, on his own terms.

Can we think of a comic this doesn't fit?

One of those chosen one has to save the world type shows. Episodic format with varying in length story arcs. The focus of the show though is the sidekick. We see all episodes through the perspective of the sidekick. We get to see how they live their lives, interact with people other than the chosen one, and ultimately see their decision in sacrificing themselves.

I'd say that this is in a fantasy setting with the sidekick as a magic user.

I don't think that's what they mean by "x meets y"

Now that it's firmly out of the just being an idea stage I should, shouldn't I?

I'll work on it and hopefully have a better one soon.

The show takes place in a cartoony world dominated by supervillains. The basic gist of it is that some event allowed supervillains to defeat most of the former heroes. Thus, upon victory, they now have turned their sights on trying to destroy each other. Titles in progress are "Henchmen For Hire" or "Criminal Union".

The primary focus is on two villainous partners trying to profit off the war by selling their services to villains in need of henchmen (who they secretly steal from). It''s mostly episodic and comedic, focused primarily on character moments and comedy.

The main cast consists of
>A sleazy lawyer/real state agent type, working his way up in the ranks. Works primarily as a schemer, whether it's cutting deals with other supervillains, working as a lawyer to pull them out of jail, devising heists which will inevitably fail so he can get insurance money, and so on. He's a backstabbing, arrogant cunt who overestimates his intelligence, much to his detriment. Wants to make it big as a supervillain.
>A stocky, greasy mechanic who makes a living of building/repairing machines and selling it to other villains. Can be quite reliable and friendly even if his interests are selfish and greedy. Wants primarily money and comfort
>A witch/magician who frequently tags along with the brothers to steal from them, who also provides help as a distraction/escape route thanks to her skills. Has no grand pretensions of villainy, just wants to pay the bills for her circus and have fun doing it.
>A hobo who crashes by in their dumpster. Used to be a superhero himself, has now become lord of the rats. Powerful, but unstable. Trying his best even if his best involves a lot of destruction. Think of it as Doc Savage meets Cosmo Kramer.

Pic related is a close depiction of how I envisioned the two main characters (albeit they will be human and with designs corresponding to their characters)

The world used to be technologically advanced with robotic servants, androids, flying boards, and more, until a great war set it back. In order to preserve technology and other items, the nations of the world ended up putting technology into deep underground vaults filled with dangerous traps and other goods.

Flash forward 1000 years after the war, new races of beings aside from Humans arise along with new nations. The new governments commission a guild of explorers to raid the vaults and bring out the technology of the world for vast amount of pay. Next to these commissioned explorers are pirates who raid the vaults.

The Main Character is an android who wakes up in the care of a veteran explorer who wants to use them as a pack mule during their exploration of ruins. The MC however was created with the special duty of retrieving the parts to a new type of technology that was hidden in the vaults across the world, if the war was to end in a disaster, but they ended up getting attacked by rogue robots and getting shut down.

Now to complete their task the MC will embark on a quest with their veteran explorer master and other explorers fighting against a genocidal robot army, pirates, and other factions who want the new type of technology the MC is looking to create and use as part of their duty.

Too bad I can't into cartoons.

Anybody want to do that thing people sometimes do in these threads where they reply to each of the ideas and give their thoughts on them ina list

That sounds utterly retarded largely because the premise is that this boy is sent to an asylum because he was caught watching porn. Even if it's an absurdist comedy or black comedy that sets the tone way too zany.
Did you recently watch Cowboy Bepob?
Not my cup of tea but you have an idea in mind for it.
Sounds fun.
Your pitch is just godawful but from what you expanded on you actually have something.

Work on your fucking pitch.
This sounds like a mix of ideas from various works alongside stuff pitched on co before.

Not to discourage you but there's nothing here that really jumps out at you.

AI Adventures: Heavily inspired by Megaman Battle Network, as well as my habit of naming smartphones/tablets/the one iPod Touch. Smartech produces phones, tablets, and weird-ass MP3 player/ smartphone hybrids called eMusi Plays. Each one contains an AI, who helps their owner, a sort of digital assistant. AIs can travel from device to device and explore the Interworld, a sort of internet dimension. It follows Pinkaboo, Cookie, Lavli, and Glitter (and more, these guys just the main ones) on their quest to protect the Interworld from viruses, hackers and evil AIs, namely their nemesises, The Glitches, a team of Rogue AIs lead by Burst.

FYI, u can call me L, I'm the gal who posted the AI Adventures thing, just never put my name on it.
L

>gal

Sounds like a less creative Psychonauts.
Way too many cliches. It's very by the numbers and expected.
Overall setup is fine, but I think some changes could be made.
A barbarian ice giant, turned dwarf, wizard is too much for me. I'd suggest dropping the wizard aspect. Or at least, maybe have him try to learn magic, but have it blow up in his face.
Why are there zombies and trolls in a person tavern? I think you could do a separate setting thing where the new dwarf can go to this regular adventurer bar but has trouble talking with them because he's an ex-fronst giant, and a monster camp where he has to convince everyone there that he is the giant and not a dwarf fighter looking to kill them, then gets into regular shenanigans with them.
Far too vague. Start fleshing things out. Make some characters, build the world.
This reminded me of that terrible Jet Li movie, The One at first, before I realized that it's Voltron.
I was picturing some Moebius as I read this. It could be good, but it really hinges on the MC, and whatever cast of characters he runs into. Do they come with him, do they always stay, does he start not wanting to go back, does he worry that he won't be able to reacclimate himself if he does get back? Stuff like that.
>collegiate wrestling
Weird way to write a love letter, I guess. I feel like this wouldn't hit the right levels of pastiche and come off like a half-baked critique on English Colonialism.
So, Mechazawa?
I'd be all over this. Gives me vibes of The Girl from the Other Side and Ancient Magus' Bride.
It's thin and cliche-ridden. Need to flesh it out more.
Would probably work the best in very short segments. Could be cute, but I don't think it would last very long.

Mechazawa looks nothing like what I had in mind but alright

Plenty. But one I though of was a sci-fi series set after humans go to war with a federation of alien species after attempting to colonize them. Humanity lost, but were allowed a place in the federation. However, the war caused a massive amount of destabilization leading to planets fighting internal wars (which had never occurred until humans entered the picture) and rampant space piracy.

The protagonist would be a human who wants to join a sort of police force that traditionally never allowed humans due to her contempt for space pirates and a desire to improve humanities standing in the federation. The series would follow her as she applies, joins and enforces the law under said space force.

I'd like it to be lighthearted despite the themes, and the protagonist wouldn't be some angsty edgelord, but an optimistic go-getter. Comedy elements would be present but action would be center stage. To set ti apart from the billion sci-fi works with similar settings, it would have a retro futuristic aesthetic.

Nobody can wholesale steal your idea. Even if you only post an outline, both final products would only slightly reflect each other. Don't be too big for yourself.
This is good. Start making a list of stupid youtube fads to use as inspirations for bits.
This is potentially great. Does she come out of its stomach, or are all of her adventures in the labyrinth of the beast? Either would work, I think.
Everyone will know about your fetish for hairy midget porn. Has fun potential, though. Good wacky cast of characters, I'm sure.
Seems waaaay too predictable and boring. Halloween monsters? Really?
This needs a better hook than, 'fight crime'. Come up with something better for both of them to do. If she's jumping dimensions, it's gotta be important.
My mind instantly went to a Hellboy-esque story, but you ruined it with the rest of your ideas. How try hard and edgy.
This sounds better, though. I'd might recommend cleaning up what happens, though. A teenager sacrificed to a war demon just rubs me the wrong way.
I feel like space pirates don't really work due to the scale of space. It's just SOOOOO big, and most things moving through it aren't that fast. I like Alien, 80's space tech, that's for sure, but at the same time, you might want to think about some 'magic' technology upgrades for the ships.
Punching dinosaurs in the dick, and ripping their tales off. I'd recommend making it as cheesy as possible.
Do angels show up every now and then?
Isn't that just Meeting of the Minds?
I have a somewhat similar idea for a story, but no cute ghost lady.
Way too cliche, man.
I hope you like getting sued. It's cute, though.
Unless you're telling the same story, keep at it.
Is there a hook or something? It doesn't seem particularly engaging. It's an okay idea, it just doesn't grab me.

>Just rubs me the wrong way
How so?

The wizard aspect is sort of a large part of the premise, so I can't really drop it.

I guess it's too edgy.

Interesting, but how do we merchandise?

I feel like global super villain war should be more interesting than how you've described it. Put more work into it.
Your MC is convoluted and contrived. Smooth out their motivation, and it'll be smooth sailing of vault raiders. Are the different races aliens?
I feel like I read a drunken early draft of the Emoji movie or something. It's certainly in a spot that is likely to be toyetic.
>Humans ruin everything, IN SPACE
Could be fun. Iron out some good reparations and such for why Earth is allowed in, or whatever. Seems odd to get punched in the mouth a few times, and then sit down with the guy at the same table a little bit later.

Fantasy/Western
Cowboys are wizards that enscribe spells on their bullets. Native American Elves. Dwarves are mole people.

young boy in medieval times gets kidnapped by an evil witch's army and she just uses him as a play thing for 9 years.

It sound like you're trying too hard to be edgy in a space that doesn't need it.
You could simply have the guy come back to life, there's no need to elaborate and explain it or the nature of his powers. Be subtle about it. Don't explain what they are, what the limitations are, what the possible repercussions might be.
Just show the guy not want to use them because he knows that they aren't right, and they aren't him.

Well yeah.

It's an evil thing done by two selfish idiots to an innocent person they didn't know. It was a fucked up horrible thing and the kid they did it to moved on and was a better person despite it and despite the weight he carried with him due to it.

It's what defines his character in the early goings. There's the anger, a hint of how his personality is changing but he doesn't go after them to tear them apart or get vengeance. He goes after them because they're psychopaths and he can stop them.

So you have this guy with this origin and the man he is despite it is one who struggles with his demons and sometimes fails but always steps up when he needs to step up and always believes that one day there will be a better world.

An action cartoon that feels like a saturday morning cartoon, but with minor adult themes. Like blood, consequences, dealing with death of loved ones, and the ever present existential crisis we all feel constantly in our lives, because of our ability to understand our own mortality and the lack of meaning and purpose there is in the universe.

I've written about something like this before in threads like these. I love me some magic bullets.
I think I've read a doujin like this once.

That sounds cool, but it might get a little racy concerning the natives.
