Almost, except knuckles is defined by his fists. It's even in his name.
Focusing on strong kicks does contrast with knuckles and has "lore" basis from the games, but isn't really a central feature to her. In SA2 she's a seductive jewel thief/spy a la James Bond femme fatales or Catwoman. Making her look like she can't fly, sneak, or seduce kills the design.

I am a little disappointed there weren't more AU versions of characters.

Shadow is a bigger draw and was in the game. They initially didn't want to use him in the show, because they didn't think they could come up with a good way to use him without turning him into a complete joke.
