What is genuinely your choice for best performance by an actress? Speaking strictly about acting talent and not physical attraction, fetish material, waifu loyalty, etc.
What is genuinely your choice for best performance by an actress...
It will never be topped. It is THE definitive performance by any woman actor, EVER.
Kate Hepburn in The Lion in Winter

bump
Thanks for the bump but I think Sup Forums is too pleb to discuss anything actress-related beyond inhaling their favorite Emma's braps.
Is this Blue Jasmine? It's scary how much my grandma is like Cate's character in that movie.
Bump for interest
Haven't been moved by an actress in a while, maybe ever
Dancer in the Dark by Lars Von Nazi and Bjork? She did well.
Lorenzo oil
It's good because it made me recognize her, and other characters' reaction to her look convincing.
>maybe ever
In all honestly, how does that work for you...
Meaning, are you moved by male performances regularly?
Perhaps you've spent to much time on Sup Forums and are now actually sexist, because it feels like a blatant bias.
It's actually pretty scary how similar the ending is to a low point in my life.
You haven't been touched by a woman either
Came here to post this.
Sissy Spacek, 'Carrie'
Were you also a socialite gold digger who lost it all and went insane?
why should I do that when awards shows don't even do that?
cate for waifu material, attractiveness and acting
Yes, regularly is maybe a strong word because about half of the movies I watch don't make me feel shit at all, but there's absolutely no denying that I'm far more often moved by an actor's performance than an actress'
I mean I could give you my 20, 30, 40 favorite performances and I'd be genuinely surprised if there was more than 3 feminine roles at any point in the lot.
I'm no secluded neet misogynist who hasn't seen a girl in years mind you, before you go on your tumblr rant about how I'm a frustrated Sup Forums virgin and whatnot like
That's a great fucking example right there.
For recent movies, Lady Bird and her mom are great.
Cate is the best actress alive, maybe even ever. She's good looking, not a slut and gives her all in everything she's in. I wish she got more leads in movies.
Can’t think of a particularly standout English language performance off the top my head off the top of my head other than Shelly Duvall in The Shining but that’s not really fair since she wasn’t really acting at that point. Maybe Herschlag in Closer or Black Swan?
My personal favourites are probably Jo Min-soo who plays the mother in Pieta or Miho Nikaido in Tokyo Decadence.
Liv Ullman in Persona is up there too.
Meryl Streep's two movies
One True Thing
August: Ousage County
Personally I like August better because I relate better to it.
But objectively her acting was better in One because she had bigger role in it.
She made the character of a sacrificing mother convincing. More over she showed me a way to cope with my low achieving life.
In August she had smaller role but still she made me think about old people around me and myself a lot. Being weak, confused, greedy and mean.
Watching some of Meryl Streep's movies make me more comfortable and willing to deal with my mid life crisis. More so than watching, say, American Beauty.
Is Meryl actually a good actress? I haven’t seen a lot of her stuff but what I have seen was never really standout imo
Isabelle Huppert in 'The Piano Teacher'. The character she plays is fucked up, and it could have so easily been over the top. But Huppert is embodies her character perfectly. She is genuinely terrifying in the role, but you can see the pain and suffering the character is feeling experiencing behind all that.
She's probably my favourite actress, and this is still my favourite performance by her.
