Annihilation

Is Annihilation any good or is it cringey and hamfisted feminist schlock?

I really dig Ex Machina but meh @ this cast and concept

I have MoviePass so I can see it for free tonight if it’s worth a viewing

>Can I watch a movie starring mostly women without my slender half incher withdrawing into my pubic mound in fear?

I don't know, but it can't be worth the risk.

its like medium good

They should make a website that views movies and goes through a checklist of all the manbaby triggers like too many women or too many black people so you could just go there instead of coming here and asking permission to watch a movie like a faggot.

If you're expecting a feminist shithole, it's not. It's actually a decent film.

I watched Ladybird with my gf last night and it was fine because it wasn’t autistically contriving a scenario where a team of militarized scientists is all-female, which is literally supra-Ghostbusters-tier forced and politically motivated. Maybe reflect for a moment before posting the first stupid thing that comes to your mind next time?

No one’s asking permission here, sweetie

You sound super woke. Sorry I condescended you.

Nice that’s good to hear, like I said Ex Machina really impressed me. Will book my free viewing for tonight

It's very, very YA. Like The Host/The 5th Wave/Hunger Games/Divergent/etc.

No worries, it’s just bantz

vey mediocre movie

I wouldn't recommend it

That was sarcasm you fucking tard.

>Pirate
I only pirate blockbuster big movies. I actually give my money to young directors who need it.

>contriving a scenario where a team of militarized scientists is all-female, which is literally supra-Ghostbusters-tier forced and politically motivated. Maybe reflect for a moment before posting the first stupid thing that comes to your mind next time?
you sound dumb as fuck

It's pretty bad . Just anti white male nonsense
The alien at the end is literally a space vagina. Go see Black Panther again instead

>Maybe reflect for a moment before posting the first stupid thing that comes to your mind next time?

I don't watch capeshit. Last superhero movie I watched was Green Lantern.

>Space Vagina
Go on.....

>Ghostbusters-tier forced and politically motivated
That was completely a marketing fuckup. The movie itself doesn't do anything like that.

It's both, actually. The first half of the movie is a fucking retarded female empowerment action-horror but the second half is sci fi genius

It's great.

Me either . I hate CapeShit
But black panther is different

95% of the movie doesn't, but some scenes were shot later during the 'controversy' and these scenes do just that.
Still, NuGB wasn't that bad. In fact, it was a lot better than some of the recent remakes like The Mummy (I liked The Mummy, but it was full of wasted potential).

capeshit is capeshit
if I want to see retards in garish costumes fakely pummel each other for soap operatic reasons I would watch wrestling

This poster thinks at the point of maximum attention of the audience, when they first go into the "shimmer" and the scene immediately changes to a white(jew) woman fucking a black dude is it is just a coincidence.

it's women walking from point a to point b. the movie was way too fucking loud though.

Portman is the main reason I don't jews. She's the biggest fucking MILF in Hollywood.

Solid 7.5, maybe an 8. It has flaws but the highs it goes to are great.

What I hate is that people will now read the trilogy and give money to that hack fraud Vandermeer. The books are shit and he's a shit writer. Pisses me off.

Settle down, Virgin. No one cares

It's a 7.5 for a post-2010 movie, but a 6 for a post-1990 movie (a 4.5 for a any-time movie).

My assessment based on IQ

1-85 "I got gold teef and rims nigga, can I bum a newport off you?"

86-100 "Dude, needed more explosions, like wtf was even going on?"

101-120 "Wow, this movie was esoteric and interesting, as someone of high intelligence I understood the metaphors, it was a masterpiece!"

121-and up "What a pretentious pile of garbage masquerading as high concept."

I agree totally. But you should go watch black panther at least twice

I don't know why anybody is upset with your interpretation of the movie so far. It's pretty on point, and you should be upset any time you see an all-female military unit

Please don't mansplain to me sweetie

>black panther is different

>mandatory racemixing scene

It has nothing to do with feminism. It’s an all female civilian team because the many previous teams were mostly military/male. It’s a desperate attempt to understand what’s going on and to see if it makes any difference. Spoilers: it doesn’t. Not really.

The worst part is after all those interesting visuals and metaphorical visual storytelling it turns out to just literally be "The Thing" at the end. It's fucking bullshit

I'm not a binary little shit like you, sugartits.

>studio jews try to fuck with the ending
>Garland BLACKS the Jewish lead
The absolute madman

None of the them are military, although Portman is ex-Army. Which is how she met her husband who is in a SMU.

You must be actually autistic if you think that was the same as the Thing

This movie was great, sort of a spiritual successor to Stalker. However, all you idiots can talk about is that there are females cast in important roles or that there's a brief scene of sex with a black dude. I thought this blacked thing was just a stupid meme but I'm starting to feel like you guys are legit obsessed.

He's a NuMale. He only saw The Thing 2011 with No Acting Talent Winstead.

Yeah I saw the movie, I know. Bottom line is you give 5 women guns and send them into a place they're expected to die and you have a military operation. The movie tried to explicitly say that this was scientific instead of military and hoping that would be more successful, but the women were armed with guns anyway. So it wasn't a military operation because the women weren't trained? Or because they were women? How the fuck does that make sense?
It literally is. In the end both Portman and Isaac's characters are the copies, not the original. And their plan is to "infect" the rest of the world into their alien ecosystem, exactly the same as the thing.

I thought the team was pretty well balanced. Psychologist team leader, paramedic, army biologist, physicist. Probably should've had more emphasis on weapons training but since no one had any idea what went on in there who could have foreseen it?

>This movie was great, sort of a spiritual successor to Stalker
How is that delusion treating you?
It was a shitty little young adult movie with a main actress past her prime. Nothing more.

>tessa thompson

dropped

I thought it was a pretty funny marketing ploy. They marketed it as if it was "STALKER but without all the icky boy stuff! Also romance!" and then just traumatized the shit out of any roastie that went to see it.

You're describing Rotten Tomatoes

>This movie was great, sort of a spiritual successor to Stalker
By being a spiritual successor to Stalker, it failed in every fucking way.

How are you angry that she's past her prime? It fits her character. She's older and established in her career. Not every woman cast in a movie needs to be perfect jerkoff material

Absolute trash wouldn’t waste my time, I wasted my time with this nonsense like what the fuck was I watching.... it moves like someone through up a idea and put there hands and smeared it all around

tfw in 2035 there will be a The Expendables knock-off with all the YA stars in a single movie (it will be called Mature Adult, not Young Adult). Blind titties. Seahorse. Eyebrows. Fridge. Etc.

How is it a young adult movie when every actress was well into her 40s??

Past her prime as in: movies like that usually have a 20 something starlet as the MC.

The plot. The characters and their actions (exept for their age). It all screams YA to me. I've seen enough of that shit in the last decade to recognize it.

What does she do now that Kane is an ayy lmao?

How fucking dense are you?

>characters never joined any military branch, instead studied in science and medicine
>they have guns! they are totally in the military!

What a ridiculous strawman you made for yourself. The Southern Reach agency is not military, just federal government. If you paid close attention to the film you would have noticed how desperate the agency was that they said fuck it: send in a bunch of female scientist (including the head of the agency, Leigh) to see what happens.

>someone this retarded walks around on this earth trying to function normally
Yikes haha praise kek fellow maga-man!

>>they have guns! they are totally in the military!
they went on a military style mission and only one of them had military training. The scenario is absurd and dumb. The specifically said in the movie that all previous expeditions into the shimmer were military and all failed.
Then they send in the women with guns and no training. I don't understand why this happened in the movie whatsoever.
>So military trained men are going in and not coming back? Send in the same kind of unit but with less training and less experience.
Makes no sense whatsoever. I'm starting to think that the logic of the movie operates under the idea that "male toxicity" is a real thing, and that somehow peaceful scientific women would fare better (even if armed) then trained killer men would.

>both Portman and Isaac's characters are the copies
>exactly the same as the thing

IMDB forums aren't canon, mate.

Worth it. The bear and the finale alone make it worth it.

I assume she has sort of an understanding of it now that she's been in the shimmer

This thread makes me feel like 45% of Sup Forums is Juggalo-tier jesus christ.

I never went to IMDB forums. I just watched the fucking movie. There are a lot of very clear, undeniable signs that this is the case:
>Portman's character defends the shimmer twice in her interrogation; she says that it wasn't trying to destroy, just change. She also says that "she" attacked the mimic, not the other way around
>Isaac's character we know is the copy; he died from the white phosphorus grenade and then the copy says verbally that he is not the original
>Portman's character embraces him when asked if she is herself, eyes glowing on both characters
both are shimmer mimics, both will work to "infect" the world. It's exactly the same as the Thing

Why can't I find a torrent anywhere tho

>guys... there's nothing suspicious about a story about 5 armed women without any military training going towards certain death... that's a normal story!
fuck off boot licking normalfaggot

>It's exactly the same as the Thing

You keep saying that.

Yeah because it's true you fucking dumbass

She was ok in Westworld, but was distractingly awful in War on Everyone and Thor

It just came out. Get MoviePass

>tessa thompson
she's actually a decent character and she generally stays out of the way
it's pic related, this fucking dumb bitch completely ruined the movie for me

SOOOOOOOOOOYYYY

The only actors in the cast that are a draw for me are Oscar Isaacs and Jennifer Jason Leigh
The others are either negative draws or literal who's

>I have MoviePass so I can see it for free tonight if it’s worth a viewing
Literally everything is better than staying here another day shitposting and wasting your life, go for it, if I had movie pass where I live I'll go the movies every single day.

Into the trash it goes

>'ll go the movies every single day
there's not enough movies out worth seeing

I thought it was on Netflix

It's more like a musical except for the lack of singing and dancing

t.DisneyMom

I can't help but think about this damn board whenever I am in the theater watching a movie whether it's something like Black Panther or Annihilation.

My opinion of Annihilation was that it was true sci-kino and that overall Sup Forums would approve and the only Anons here who wouldn't like it would be your usual plebs and redditors.

kill yourself

The left can't meme, folks

What are your favorite films of the last year?

>I am in the theater watching... Black Panther
>My opinion of Annihilation was that it was true sci-kino
you need to fucking leave and never come back. Annihilation is an insult to Stalker, rip-off of The Thing, has no logic whatsoever to the first half of the film, visual storytelling a metaphor all turn out to be meaningless in the end, etc etc. There are far more problems with this movie than the all-female protagonists

So how do they all die?

Is it better than Prometheus/Alien Covenant?

It's about on the same level of high potential mixed with non-nonsensical execution

They walk down to their local cinema and buy a ticket.

>Due to a poorly received test screening, David Ellison, a financier at Paramount, became concerned that the film was "too intellectual" and "too complicated", and demanded changes to make it appeal to a wider audience, including making Portman's character more sympathetic and changing the ending. Producer Scott Rudin sided with Garland in his desire to not alter the film, defending the film and refusing to take notes. Rudin had final cut.[2]

>On December 7, 2017, it was announced that due to the clashes between Rudin and Ellison, and the shift in Paramount's leadership, a deal was struck with Netflix handling international distribution. According to this deal, Paramount will handle the US and China release, while Netflix will begin streaming the film in other territories 17 days later.

sounds like the writer and the director got fucked all due to one mans tantrum and politcs, so they kind of do need it.

>making Portman's character more sympathetic and changing the ending
so did this happen or not? Because the ending as it stands is shallow and dumb

good idea for a website would probably get a ton of views

You dumb fucks all the chicks are there as variables in part of an ongoing experiment they arent a legit military unit in the slightest. Theor superiors don't expect them to be the solution to the problem or take care of anything. Why don't you faggots actually familiarize yourselves with the work before you start bitching?

Literally every gripe you stated is wrong. I have seen some other lowbrow critics complain that the plot was incoherent when in fact every scene served a specufic purpose to the story. Especially the cuck subplot which was central to everything but flew over most people's heads.

Haha fucking got you

>all the chicks are there as variables in part of an ongoing experiment
no they're not, retard. You had one biologist, one physicist, and one psychologist. Those three women were useful. The other two were not, and one was just a fucking paramedic with the emotional maturity of a 16 year old. There was no fucking reason for that dumb mexican bitch to be in the movie at all. Everything she did or said was dumb and the movie immediately improved upon her death
>they arent a legit military unit in the slightest
that's one of the biggest problems with the movie: they mention how all previous military expeditions had failed but somehow they expect the scientifc one to succeed because it differs from the military expeditions... how? The only quantifiable difference is that these women have no military training in firearms or navigation, but are sent in anyway. It's meant, I'm guessing, to recall the way that the Zone in Stalker only allowed you to pass through it peacefully. But then the women DO have to fight monsters and they ARE armed and would have been way fucking better off if they had a military escort.

I didn't get a feminist vibe from it at all. The main characters just happened to be female.

Of course Black Panther is wildly overrated. But its just servicesble enough to when you combine it with its crazy box office thus causes massive irreversible rectal damage to so many Anons here that it get's an extra point for that alone.
