I have nothing against Charlie Chaplin, what I meant is that Wayne is so characteristic of his time, over-stylized and all around unnatural that when you look at him you see only a creation that appealed to the people of his era, not a character in a story. Chaplin was like that but he was a comedy actor and did it on purpose, exquisitely at that.

Everything about JW movies are awful. Ugly flat set design, boring stories with lame villains, unexciting action scenes full of guys who are clearly dads with bad knees, awful AWFUL scores that are the most bland and cliched musical compositions you can imagine with shit like that cheesey violin when the love interest appears with that coat of vaseline on the lands making her look shimmery.

Compare that crap to the last few minutes of A Fistful of Dollars. A few gruff men glaring at each other while a music box winds down.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance has more depth than any of the movies you mentioned. The Searchers just as well and it features pretty good acting by Wayne. Rio Bravo and El Dorado, otoh, are just plain fun movies and brilliant entertainment. And this ignores Stagecoach, Red River and the John Ford trilogy.

Nah, except for Ride the High Country his work was mediocre. Henry Fonda was in some brilliant westerns though.
But most importantly Clint Eastwood has yet to manage a magnificent exit comparable to the Duke in The Shootist. I am skeptical that he can manage.
