ITT: Shows that were just bland

This got some interest the last time that I did it. I'll start, with W.I.T.C.H.
>poor pacing, most episodes consist of 'bad guy tells you his big plan (for the 50th fucking time), then tells you how his little plan for this episode will contribute to it, and then shows you what he's going to use for his little plan, and then shows you his underlings using it'. It's like the writers didn't know about "show, don't tell".
>battles are horribly done, primarily because they lack tension. Many are either utterly inconsequential (e.g. no name rebels fight no name guards) or over in what feel like less than a minute (often due to huge differences in power, e.g. main group vs no name guards)
>animation is poor, but not bad enough to make it so bad that it's good. It's exactly the level of bad requires to make you just plain bored.
>terrible adaptation of source material (although that doesn't explain anything about the cartoon's bad points)
>plot often relies on the repeated stupidity of particular characters
>despite some claiming that it is fappable, no particular episode stands out as being so

And I'll say it again too: who the fuck watched this for the story?

What else would you watch it for?

Oh, I don't know...

Waifus, user. WAIFUS.

Who is your waifu? What made you waifu her? What episodes do you watch to help your embrace your waifu?

weird. you seemed convinced that the cartoon was actually good and not just your waifu material
posting superior girl from superior comics then

What is this, 20 questions? But okay, I'll bite:
>Who is your waifu?
Will
>What made you waifu her?
I basically have no idea. I don't like redheads much, I hate short hair on girls, and I certainly don't think her original comic appearance is particularly special. The animators just gave her this look somehow.
>What episodes do you watch to help your embrace your waifu?
Who actually does that? If you have a waifu you should generally appreciate her in all her appearances.

I only need Elyion

>Who actually does that?
I've seen it Sup Forums.

>you
You are aware we're all anons here, right? I'm not the only one who likes the show.

But actually the writing is quite good, especially compared to the likes of Winx. I'm just saying nobody really watched it for that.

Are you in to NTR or something? She's the most stealable waifu that I've ever seen.

>Posting Whorenelia the Mudshark

>waifus

some anons are rather recognizable, but oh well
I don't have any waifus in witch, just favourite characters. She's also much better in the comics

Her boyfriends also look better in comics.

Man fuck you, I liked this show as a wee lass

The comic had plenty of cute guys.

Looks less /fit/.

>poor pacing, most episodes consist of 'bad guy tells you his big plan (for the 50th fucking time), then tells you how his little plan for this episode will contribute to it, and then shows you what he's going to use for his little plan, and then shows you his underlings using it'. Did Greg Weisman write for this show?

Will is hot. H.O.T.

Only season 2.

Why do you ask?

This is how you do DreamWorks Face without looking retarded. PAY ATTENTION, STUDIOS.

Obligatory post making sure to remind everyone that Winx was way better than this shit.

And that bloom was best girl.

Winx is a shit show with shit waifus. Nobody should ever watch it.

>shit waifus
t. Person who didn't watch it.

It's funny, posts like yours always cause arguments, but I never see anyone starting these things off by claiming that W.I.T.C.H. had the better cartoon. I guess that it's either the case that the Winxfags are insecure or that they're simply telling the truth. I haven't got a clue which.

Comparing to pic related is more than enough anyways.

>I haven't got a clue which.
Sounds like you do have a clue.

Not gonna lie, I there's a part of me that wanted to say "I haven't got a clue witch", but it struck me as looking like a genuine error rather than a joke.

Accidental puns are best though.

That show run for 10 years and never improved the animation.

they are as bland as the show

>Dreamworks face
>on a 2D image

It's better in 4D.

>I never see anyone starting these things off by claiming that W.I.T.C.H. had the better cartoon
Then you haven't seen a Winx thread. We'll never be able to have a proper thread about either show because some faggot always starts this stupid rivalry shit and there's always someone of the opposite opinion autistic enough to take the bait. As someone who likes both it's fucking annoying.

>falling into bait
That's why we can't have nice Winx/Witch thrads. They always end up in rivalry discussions for literally no reason.

I ship it.

Winx as a whole against the witch cartoon and the latest comics sagas? Absolutely. Against the original comics and the early sagas? Absolutely not. I'm a massive winxfag but witch had better writing and general themes handling in the comics.
Witch was fucking boring. Even season 1 of winx is more fun to watch and that had plotholes and bullshit all over the place, but some stuff at least stood out, like the trix and all the shit they did, some of the fillers were cute, that one episode where Musa slaps Icy...
watch the very first episode of season 1 and compare it to any to season 4. there was improvement but it was subtle, like more frames and less QUALITY faces and cute effects and better layouts. Season 1 had a lot of QUALITY faces outside of closeups. 2 and 3 are also better overall, but not as much as 4. I'm pretending the rest doesn't exist
World of Winx is also ok if not good for a flash show with extremely convoluted character designs and impossible clothes that's 100% done inhouse.

>Watching W.i.t.c.h.

Just read the comics

I actually felt that episode where Musa talks to her dead mother really heartwarming.
Sadly it was kinda ruined by terrible pacing but hey, at least they made me feel something, not like Witch

Exquisite taste, sir. I'd love to shake your hand.

Winx went to shit after season 3

Season 4*
Dunno why season 4 also gets hate, it had great villains. Yes, it started the trend "hey let's get new transformations every season" but at least in this case it made sense.
Also, Roxy best girl.

I admire how dedicated these fucking autists are at least.

It's been almost 20 years and they're still as mad as in the early 2000s.

It's not even that you can't talk about these two shows, any discussions about Sup Forums magical girls eventually descends into witchfags and winxfags trying to scream louder about which franchise is worse when both turn to fucking shit after a point anyway.

Who gives a shit about story, which one has best girls?

Depends on your tastes. i prefer the quirkier Winx girls.

Bland is the perfect way to describe it. I don't find it terrible like the comics fans keep insisting I should find it, but there's nothing much to call good either, just an average show with nothing much to it, and I forgot most of it already (which, admitedly, may be why I don't find anything offensively bad with it either).
Only thing that really stuck with me were the horn of hypnos episodes. Because I was developing a mind control fetish right around the time I watched it. But that's it, and I can't remember even those episodes all that well.

I do plan on reading the comic sometime to see what's so good about it. Is there some mind control stuff in those as well?

I only liked the cartoon W.I.T.C.H. girls, appearance wise. Both Winx and comic W.I.T.C.H. are too skeletal and doll-looking for my tastes. And even then the cartoon suffered with a lot of off model and other QUALITY moments.

Something about the Winx girls remind me of Bratz which I find unattractive. Witch to me has a better artstyle which I prefer.

...

Winx was the better show. Witch has better waifus.

THESE.

>Winx was plagiarizing, unimaginative garbage with awful design and animation, cardboard characters who were defined by having a single interest which was also their name, cardboard villains, and boring, retarded plots that were literally cobbled together from plagiarized stories and cliches. They took the shittiest, laziest magical girl template and somehow managed to execute it in the worst way possible, all to exploit little girls for their parents' hard earned money with shitty merchandise.

>WITCH was quality Western take on the magical girl genre that adopted some basic ideas and developed them in positive ways. In doing so it surpassed the vast majority of the interchangeable cookie-cutter bullshit from Japan. It had character development, it had ongoing plotlines, it had actual changing dynamics within the group, secondary characters were actual characters, villains had motivations, plots that made sense and spanned multiple episodes, and they were threatening, the antagonism between the girls and the villains was developed in them acting to frustrate the villain in an organized manner. And the romance and drama weren't too dumb or too boring. So yes, it was unironically good as far as little girls' cartoons go.

seriously whats with italian waifu comic books that makes people sperg out so much

The waifus?

It's always the waifus, people.
Always.

Guys like cute girls - news at 11.

>Dunno why season 4 also gets hate
It's lacking in one very important area.

Honestly it is a decent season, but I missed my girls. Happy they came back because because they made the later seasons tolerable.

Don't forget, guys love sexy girls.

>Witch was fucking boring.
Why?

Most of Allesandro's cartoon adaptations were shit. It's kind of unfortunate really when the source material is usually easy enough to adapt. I remember they couldn't even wait until after the first episode in the Monster Allergy adaptation before fucking up the source material.

>just an average show with nothing much to it and I forgot most of it already (which, admitedly, may be why I don't find anything offensively bad with it either).
That matches my opinion perfectly. It actually kind of bothers me, if the show sucked then I'd be able to make a note of why it sucks and then I'd never find myself considering rewatching the show, but because it's bland I'm always wondering whether or not I missed something.

>Only thing that really stuck with me were the horn of hypnos episodes
Fucking hell, a few days ago I rewatched two random episodes, one of them was the horn of hynos one (episode 18, I think). Rewatching it actually made me kind of worried, it was almost good, which made me strongly consider rewatching more. The only things that really bothered me was that the episode only worked because damn near every character was stupid, which leads me to suspect that I might've just got lucky and hit one of the few good episodes.

Yeah, Hypnos was season 1, episode 18 and season 2, episode 7.

And hot girls too! I think guys like girls in general, would you agree with that?

#fph
No.

What does that mean?

Go to /fit/, search for 'fph'
I fucked up the link somehow, >>>/fit#fph/ maybe?

What the actual fuck.

Whatever I guess though, that's clearly trolling. Right!?

The guy on the left had a cool arc. I liked how they handled some of the villain redemptions in general.

I can't even remember him.

Just the similarity between witch and winx, nothing else.

Witch's redemption arcs sucked ass. I'm still salty about Cedric.

IIRC an exec literally claimed that Winx basically destroyed the popularity W.I.T.C.H. had built up for itself. No wonder people are still pissed.

Before we get into an argument about who copied who (again) it was largely co-incidence. Winx was already a pretty well developed idea in 1999, two years before the first W.I.T.C.H comic was released in 2001. Though I don't think there's any indication W.I.T.C.H was trying to copy Winx.

I think the most plausible theory is that Disney realised there was potential in the Winx cartoon idea (probably after seeing the 2001 pitch video youtube.com/watch?v=61Nr5MfW2Vs) and decided to develop W.I.T.C.H into a competing cartoon in a similar way that Hasbro and Hanna-Barbera raced to make Transformers and GoBots. Both cartoons premiered in 2004.

So in all honesty, while I like the W.I.T.C.H comics and the cartoon is okay, I'm glad Winx won the cartoon war. Otherwise it would just be yet another victory for The Mouse.

Hey, that development design doesn't make her look like Barbie (much)! What the fuck happened?

Concept to execution for animation (especially when you have to do the animation on the cheap) is never an easy process.

Hell, Winx concept art mini-dump time.

...

...

...

...

All of these designs would have made Winx watchable, maybe even waifuable. Such a shame they were never actually used.

DAT ASS

...

...

...

...

And done. Always save the best 'til last.

I'd love a book of Winx concept and production art. Kind of amazing there isn't one really.

Weren't some of the characters confirmed to be gay by the shows creator or something in one of those after hour con events

Regardless of whether that's true - it better not be one of these three, I can tell you that much.

I think your talking about this

i'm sure the original artist have hidden porn of the characters

These speak directly to my dick, and it's wonderful.

Instead of all the great concept pics, you chose the Barbie ones... or I guess your dick did. Either way, something is very wrong.

You're in luck user! Simone Borselli does draw porn! Gay bear porn.

My dick did, don't blame me for not appreciating art. We all know it operates on a basic level.

I blame your dick for not appreciating art.

It needs to be re-educated into the Eurogirl look. I suggest investing in some plane tickets for this purpose.

Absolute Madman. Why can't more creators be like Greg?

You want more shitshows like YJ, instead of greatness like TT?

I meant in his dealings with fans, really. It just seems like he has fun with them rather than the more usual creator-fan relationship today which is antagonising each other via twitter.

And I've never actually watched either of those shows. Not really into capes.
