Don't mind me, just here to shed a few tears over the best television show ever made. Come cry with me, or discuss SG1 or Atlantis. Fuck off Origins.

Here's the trailer for anyone who hasn't seen it.

SGU was trash. Why is it even here?

Besides several good characters, a good dynamics between Rush/Young the show falls flat. SGU essentially throws away what SG1 and SGA built up (an action sci-fi series) and decides to make it into a drama in space with characters you most definitely don't like (apart from titty monster, Rush, Young and maybe one or two more but them too only for superficial reasons). SGU wanted to be edgier, cooler, they wanted the cool kids, heck they even flat out disrespected the fans, as they made Eli a chubby fan self-insert Gary Stu (haha he's just like you he plays vydia games but also is super smart, smarter than Rush who has 9 PhD's, but fuck that shit Eli is le natural). Plus with the plot that was going nowhere (lmao it's going to the center of the universe lmao), I am uncertain what they were planning to accomplish.
If you could ever call a series in any franchise useless, then SGU would be a prime example of it.

Season 2 was kino

All of it was kino.

Just because Eli was a nerd doesn't mean that's what they were saying their fanbase was. I think SGU did stay quite loyal to the roots of Stargate, what with the heavy Ancient involvement, as well as some Lucian Alliance. No continuity breaks I could see, unlike Discovery with Star Trek. Sure, it had a different tone to the other shows, but so what? What's wrong with that. I loved it. Eli's being better than Rush was the only fault I can give the show. Plus, I like to think that if Rush used the Earth symbol as the ninth chevron, he wouldn't have needed Eli at all.

/ourguy/

Farscape was better

Still the plot wasn't really tangible. SG1 goa'ulds were the enemy and the goal was to defeat them, SGA was the wraiths. What was SGU doing? Going to the center of the universe? how many billion galaxies were they away from it. Whatever if it was going to the center of the universe or going back to earth, it always meant that they would've just flew over a galaxy in a season, not being able to develop anything interesting about the enemy/lore that could span over several seasons. It was centered to be a drama in space, and I think people just didn't want that from Stargate. Even then I think the biggest fault of the show was lack of interesting characters. Everyone remembers Rush fondly because he, as a character, fits quite well into the setting of Stargate, where others feel out of place, heck I can't even name them besides Rush, Young, Eli and titty monster.

NO

Just because there's no main antagonist, doesn't mean there's no plot. The overall plot was to learn about Destiny, return it to it's former glory and explore the ship, learning more about the Ancients in the process. Everywhere is the centre of the universe btw. It was a bit of a drama, but I don't see a problem with that. I liked the characters. Volker and Brody were good characters. So was Greer and Dr Park and Riley and Ginn.

I really liked most of the characters by the end too. The only really annoying ones were Chloe and Scott. They were soap opera characters and they brought the series down every time they were on-screen.

*blocks your path*

Well considering that I watched SGU on it's original run which was some 8 years ago, it honestly didn't leave a good or fond memory of it. Perhaps that I was fresh off atlantis the whole shift from militaristic shooting up aliens of the week to more of a personal drama exploring quite a few characters and their interpersonal relationships didn't sit well with me. I might have a different opinion of it if I rewatched it now, but heaven knows I have very little desire to do so.

You don't know what the fuck you are talking about

I know you don't know me, but listen to me when I say you really really should. Please. Do it for me.

>TITTIES

SGU wanted to recreate Battlestar Galactica rather than be a Stargate series.

Nah, it wanted to do both. And by God, it succeeded.

Have any of you started reading the comics that continue the story?

They're not great :(
