Some how this is nominated for an Oscar. This is basically the black version of Stepford Wives.

It's kinda like Stepford Wives mixed with the Skeleton Key with some inspired racism themes.
It's pretty good desu

Did you even see it?
best movie to be nominated for best picture this year; script is basically a bad episode of the Twilight Zone but the movie is so well done it's genuinely good.
The movie reminded me more of Hot Fuzz than anything else. Am I crazy?
And Shape of Water is just Creature of the Black Lagoon.
Call me by your name is just Withnail and I.
I Tonya is Goodfellas.
Lady Bird is Ghost World
The Post is All the President's Men
Dunkirk is just the Eagle has Landed.
Yes. It looks like a tv movie, and features cringey scenes of le spooky stares
>I Tonya is Goodfellas.
Maybe I should check I Tonya. I fucking love goodfellas. But Get Out is trash.
it really is pretty basic, the only original thing it has going for it I think is the subtext about white liberals leeching off black people and culture.
>protagonist travels somewhere
>somethings off
>antagonist assure protag everythings fine
>things escalate
>antagonist reveal themselves
>"shock reveal" that things are even worse than the audience previously thought
>protag escapes and kills everyone
its been done in a similar manner thousand times.
>Some how
You know exactly how.
good call senpai, had that kind of feel. I like Hot Fuzz too.
>an Oscar
>an
If only it was just one.
Yea, especially with the comedic relief friend, violent ending, weird cult in small town, etc etc
>he knows
>shut it down!!
Yeah that too.
I loved the effect they used for the sunken place, it felt real and horrifying.
>Call me by your name is just Withnail and I.
Wat?
>It looks like a tv movie,
Just admit you haven't seen it.
>the only original thing it has going for it I think is the subtext about white liberals leeching off black people and culture.
>the only original thing it has going for it is the thing that dominates 70% of the movie and what makes it stand out
Let's be honest here though?
Was the acting good? Yes it was.
Was the music good? Yes it was.
Is the script original? Look above.
Does the movie feature original themes? Yes, don't tell me parasitic brain transplants have been done before.
You people are just afraid to rate this movie highly because you're afraid of being labelled as SJWs. The movie's a thought-provoking, unnerving blast.
It's very well done at least
Not that guy but I watched it. Completely forgettable movie.
Only reason it's nominated is because of white guilt. Period.
I know this is probably a bait post but:
>Was the acting good?
no, the people who were possessed were fucking terrible. And the main character's overacting really takes you out of the film.
>Was the music good?
none of it was memorable at all.
>Is the script original?
"No!". creepy goings on in a secluded town in the woods is the quintessential basic bitch horror plot.
>Does the movie feature original themes?
No, brainwashing and transplants has been done plenty of times before. watch more films/television.
You people are afraid to critize the movie because you're afraid of being labelled Sup Forums. The movie is boring, made-for-tv shlock.
>"score wasn't memorable"
pleb criticism going straight to the trash
> black people now think white people wanna copy them
Trust me no regular white person wants to copy black people. If anything black people wanna bleach themselves badly.
> bleach their skin
> wear normal people hair wigs with blonde, red or straight features
> colored eye contacts
> claim they have white grandmother or anything non black grand parent
> all the “ black celebrity” are usually half black
it wasn't, it was shit. the music didn't even do the most basic job of setting up a horror atmosphere.
I take it you agree with everything else then?
Remember this is going to win best movie because 'old' Academy voters supposedly did not care to watch the movie because it isn't oscar worthy according to a 'source' who knows those people.
Academy is gonna give Get Out the wins because they support diversity.
>the only original thing it has going for it is the thing that dominates 70% of the movie and what makes it stand out
but it doesn't dominate the movie, its barely touched on until the end. What dominates the movie is our protags blank stare face as "weird" things happen.
You know what other recent horror movie had good acting, good music/sound design, an original script and themes? It Follows, The Witch, Don't Breathe, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Split, Raw, Bone Tomahawk, Krampus, Green Room.
All decent horror movies that I thoroughly enjoyed and are on par with "Get Out". Do any of them deserve oscars? Hell no.
the film that deserves it (florida project) wasnt even nominated
White people do copy black people, kids and teens are adopting it more so than ever now since the media constantly promotes black 'culture' in the music, entertainment industry etc.
And black people copy white people whenever they are not running around throwing spears at eachother making clicking noises and raping everything they see to the point where everyone in the village has aids.
If this movie was released even 3 years ago, it would have gone by unnoticed.
Okay. But horror movies have done this before, just as well and get no acknowledgement from the academy. But because this is about racism that means it's worthy of an Oscar. Remember this is the same award show that gave Crash best movie and bunch more. The academy is a fucking joke. The majority of award shows are jokes since most of this is subjective.
Shape of Water is nothing like Creature of the Black Lagoon. How is a woman falling in love with a water creature being held captive is the same as some group of people vacationing in some tropical island and get attacked by a water creature?
...
Its literally a play on the creature from the black lagoon though. Only this time it's being spun on its head and made into a metaphor for gays
True, but the creature could creature could literally be anything since it was taking the concepts of the monsters in 50's B-movies being some representation of something against white america.
Tfw the main villain is literally the hero in every old monster flick
Because both have water. Duh.
it's basically just like Jaws too, the directors cut, where Roy Schneider starts fucking the Shark after he eats Quint.
are you trolling, aren't they a year too late?
Compared to the other shit that got nominated, it's pretty alright.
>2 WWII movies, as if they weren't done to death at this point, neither of them is all that interesting or thought provoking
>The naked oscar bait, The Post
>Some underage twink gets fucked by an adult in a beautiful backdrop, k', whatever, it didn't try to do anything other than look pretty and arouse gay pedos/kids with daddy issues
>Standard indie flick about histrionic bitch, but it's directed by a woman so let's nominate it
Shape of Water and Get out are the only stand out ones. Which is not to say they're that great either. I didn't watch the Phantom Thread.
Three Billboards was alright too. Not sure how I forgot to mention it.
Neither was Columbus but this shlock done by a fucking comedian was.....
Nope, objectively a shit movie. Get Out is thousand times better
Goodfellas knock-off
Ladybird and Dunkirk are the only two movies here better than their counterpart
>Shape of Water
>good
Opinion discarded.
wow i love it when directors directly spoonfeed me the meanings of their movies through social media rather than leaving them up to the viewer’s interpretation
Check out the Imdb trivia page though. Truly audience was an enlightened bunch.

>If you think it's shit then you haven't seen it
Stop this meme.
I usually hate when people cry about blacks in movies but Get Out showed the insane bias critics have towards black films. It was decent, but it was just a shlocky fun horror comedy that felt like a Twilight Zone episode and yet every review I saw was praising it as a "game-changer" or a "deeply disturbing psychological horror" the fact that it has reviews almost universally near-perfect is ridiculous.
>thought-provoking
maybe if you are such a retarded pseud that incredibly basic, half-baked themes seem super smart and mind-blowing just because they are about race.
And your afraid to list it as barely above mediocre compared to great films. But by today's shit? Oh, you can justify praising it by knowing most everything now is shit. But YOU are the one blindly following the sheep and using that as reason enough.
That scene where the servant runs at the main character at night really haunted me
how could something so creepy happen? this movie was scurry af
...
just watch the movie, retard. you don't have anything better to do with an hour and a half of your sperglord life. ffs.
