Do you have a problem with the way female characters are written these days?

Do you have a problem with the way female characters are written these days?

nah. cartoons still have a good amount of non-shit female characters. mabel's awful but not representative

I've had a problem with the way they were written since Ishtar.

>muh, Mabel sucks
is this the worst Sup Forums meme?

I picked her because she was the only controversial female character I had an image of

They need to be drawn better

>>muh, Mabel sucks
Mabel doesn't suck. At least, not entirely. The "summer romance" aspect of her definitely sucks. And the way she was handled during the finale also sucked. In fact, the whole finale sucked.

Sometimes it works.

no because at least then they have a personality

this

What sucked about the finale?

My fragile straight white cismale pride is threatened by strong female characters who are treated by the narrative as being incapable of doing wrong.

not him but

>tease multiverse and some big happening + character death
>none of this stuff happens
>it was just a post apocalyptic local city chimpout with """""""weird"""""""" stuff going on in the background episode with flawless happy ending

Mabel wasn't canonically dating Dipper by the end.

>Mabel spends 2 whole seasons furiously thirsting for the D
>Dipper talks to 3 different girls and suddenly he's a piece of shit pickup artist
>Dipper forced to apologize to the nice(girl) who flipped out when he didn't automatically marry her

The huge plot holes strewn throughout the whole thing.
>The rift is said to be expanding and will destroy all of existence in the first part and is never mentioned again.
>Bill being an omniscient being yet the town being surrounded by a barrier took him completely off-guard
Glaring mistakes that those can't be overlooked

They couldn't even have the apocalyptic stuff effect the entire planet.

Why would she need to date someone she's known her whole life and knows practically everything about?

Generally speaking, not really.

>Tumblr artstyle
Yes i do have a problem. Everything looks the same now. Nothing is stylish anymore.

I'm not typing this up again.

Clearly thinly-veiled sexism.

If you want to make a "feminist" cartoon, try making the girls actually act human, put them in situations your audience can relate to.
If a character isn't a pure caricature or narrative device whose sole purpose is to fulfill a single role, they ought to have an appropriate measure of both virtues and vices. And the story ought to both express and address these things to create a consistent narrative around them. These are the fundamentals of character-driven storytelling.

>He thinks that Star is a good character

Better than Mabel

pssst, let me tell you a secret
that's how it goes IRL

Its the little things really

Mabel's boy-crazy habits were a means introducing us to oddities and antagonists. The gnomes, Gideon, Love God, Pacifica - all came into the story through Mabel. Dipper's shot at being a ladies' man was understandable and harmless until he forgot the one thing about romance: don't shit where you eat. He fucked around with one of his sister's BFFs and of course she called him out on it.

Yes, Female Characters are always portrayed as intelligent or competent at the expense of male characters. And that shit is just annoying. If the male sex truly is such a horrible drooling moronic mess? The species would have died out such a long time ago it wouldn't even be funny.

Yet that's all media does. A female character is superior because the male characters are emasculated. You got to fire the damn twats and manginas working in the industry and never let them work again.

>meme
Fuck off. She's awful.

How so?

I want a popular cheerleader type to be a cutthroat badass. She doesn't have to be exactly nice but I am bored of the popular girl stereotype. Make her do lacross or rollar derby.

I once had a character idea about an athletic cheerleader, but I didn't do much with it

We kinda already have that, but it would be nice if she wasn't the only example of a bad ass cheerleader.

The Becky Primm short/pilot made me want it but she's basically just an unhinged villain in that and not quite athletic or a badass. She'd probably cut a bitch, though.

I'm also from NJ where our highschool was voted by Howard Stern to be the next columbine and another highschool that was proto-juvie. Almost everyone was a bitch or asshole so it wasn't exclusive to 'popular kids'(nor did we have stereotypical cliques or anything and plenty of the most popular girls were the nicest fucking people) but I've seen plenty of the prissy girls lay down a hard ass beating complete with blood, missing teeth and broken bones. Surprisingly middle school might have been more violent than that.

I dunno. I'm just tired of the cheerleader/jock stereotype. Don't get me wrong, I love The Breakfast Club and Mean Girls bu we could use a change of pace.

True, I forgot about her. It feels like it's been so long. I did recently hear someone using her ringtone as theirs.

I actually wish there were more female characters who are cunning and intelligent. Not supergenius smarter than the boys girl power bullshit nor Mabel-tier retardation and obnoxiousness but someone manipulative in a fun way and as sly as a fox.

Just because she's flawed doesn't mean she's bad. Read this

That's how childhood summers are supposed to be! Did you want the actual kids who watch this to be traumatized, or did you want them to grow up thinking how precious such memories are (and value every such moment they do get, a message repeated multiple times throughout the series)?

I kinda agree with the barrier thing but that was practically the ONLY major issue with the finale.

How many girls like that do you actually know, user? Remember, chicks can get by on their looks, they don't really need personalities at all.

And nobody really wants to introduce wildly unrealistic character types like that.

Did I give you a permission to talk to me, retard? Didn't think so. Fuck off.

Who gave you permission to post on MY board in the first place you shitface?

Fuck off, Mabelfag.
No one likes you. Off yourself already.

I'm not a Mabelfag, I'm a GFfag.

But fuck you anyways.

>What sucked about the finale?

All of 2B was rushed

1. Mabel's character development was shit, this huge character moment with her and the rift vanished like it never even happened, she was a damsel in distress, she came across as shallow and selfish ignoring all the people suffering and replacing her brother. Not a Mabelhater, either. I liked her except for the finale shit.

2. Bill was really a shitty villain after the first part, he barely did anything, made stupid mistakes, didn't notice obvious things like the barrier, the barrier cranked the whole threat level way down to just some big goofy monsters smashing things in the background

3. The whole finale focus ended up being on Ford and Stan's relationship and basically ignored Dipper and Mabel but Stan and Ford only really interacted in two episodes out of the series so it was hard to get so invested in their relationship

4. The sacrifice was nullified in seconds so it barely registered, I don't think Stan should have been left with amenesia, but it could have taken slightly longer to come back then instantly with zero lasting effects right after it happened, it seemed very cheap. Also zero other consequences to anything that had happened.

5. General complaint the other characters who were secondary especially Wendy needed some focus. Wendy, Robbie, Pacifica. Gideon's "redemption arc" took about 30 seconds. He had just tried to murder them and then with a quickie Friendship Speech that was it he was a good guy.

The show needed one more season to do things right.

>The show needed one more season to do things right.
O RLY?
>The main hook of the show plotwise was the mystery surrounding the books and Stan. Once that was resolved halfway through season 2 it stopped being interesting. The big finale felt more like a formality than a climax, though it had some decent moments.

>And while the show was funny it followed a formula, which worked well but would get tiresome with a third season. The characters' gags were getting played out too by the end. Ending it at Season 2 was a good choice in that regard because it wrapped itself up before it got boring. Maybe a Season 3 could work if it had a big twist or changed up the main cast, but at that point you're changing the core of the show and that wouldn't mesh with its narrative focus.

Are you gonna post that in every fucking thread?

I wish she sucked dipper

No.

But I do try to post it in every *relevant* thread.

Are you talking about how they are like pretty energetic, crazy, and weird AF?

I dont really have a problem with, but its getting really overused these days. I hope that we get the Infinity Train cartoon. Yeah, the MC was that "Daria" kind of character, but I think we need some of those... The only problem is that potential overuse of "MUH FEMINISM"

On another note Star is the best female character of the bunch.

agreed
she actually get's what's coming to her for the shit she does

Exactly

Are you kidding? She's literally retarded. Mabel is normal, the writing just doesn't always punish her enough (which is realistic BTW).

No, i dont. I honestly thought dipper was the selfish dick in their relationship

IMO Dipper was the selfish one in season 1, Mabel in season 2.

I kinda find it hard to see how you can possibly see it that way

Good bait

I've seen characters with less than 20 minutes of screentime who have more satisfying character arcs than Mabel has with nearly 800 minutes of screentime.

stealth mabelhate circlejjerk thread?

You and I have very different definitions of stealth, friendo.

I only chose her as the OP image because she was the only controversial female character I had an image of

Let's just jump to why we're really here.

Still, fuck off.

i read the thread before i posted, buddy

Being a stupid teenager with reality warping magic at your disposal leads to stupid mistakes, and she gets the humiliation conga she deserves later with a side of cuck as it happens to people that don't speak their mind when they have the chance.

Star is actually well written for a fish out of the bowl teenager.

>Hate Mabel in Gravity Falls
>Love Mabel in Pinecest fics/porn
Is this unusual? My brain tends to hurt if I think about this too much

>actually wanting Grunkle Stan to die

the fuck is wrong with you

people like you make me glad this was a kids series and that they couldn't go through with these awful endings

not everything has to have a disappointing and tragic ending about the apocalypse just so you can feel like an adult or so it can feel like a ""proper"" ending for you

A man of culture I see
This ship works so well its ridiculous

I completely disagree. First, in this formula, NWHS would be the season 2 finale it seems like it was supposed to be, so the author mystery isn't resolved. Second, the extra episodes could be accounted for with just an ep fleshing out characters like Wendy a little a piece, one or two episode of Bill manipulating events to make him a more compelling villain, and most importantly more Ford and Stan interacting episodes to give more stake in their relationship. Add in some better Mabel character development and that takes up at least a whole season right there. As it is, it feels like they wanted a 3 season thing at one point but got frustrated and wrapped things early. The show had also just hit its stride in Season 2A before it decided to sprint to a quickie conclusion.

You beat me there.

Only waifufags actually think Star is anywhere near as great a character as Mabel. To be fair, though, it's not really about Star herself but about the writing quality of GF vs. SVTFOE in general.

Because DP and twincest came around long before Mabel turn into the shit she was in season 2. Her being quirky was a trait then, not her entire shitty character.

That's even worse. Do what I told you anyway, autistic shitcunt.
Fuck off.
