WESTERN VS JAPANESE

Sooooooo how come anime has so much better animation than ON A $10,000 PER EPISODE BUDGET while modern cartoons like Steven Universe and Family Guy literally cost $1,000,000+ to make and have shittier animation?

Steven universe has an extremely small budget. 3 seconds in Google proves that

Because Japan animation is cheap, mass-produced, relies constantly on templates, and ultimately all looks like the exact same thing.

>the anime draws mega gryados wrong
>it looks better
fuck

Pokemon wouldn't have a small budget. Agreed that Steven Universe looks like shit though.

Unions

>Source: my ass

You're right. Steven Universe and Teen Titans Go have such unique artstyles that can never be copied and are the pinnacle of animation

>unions
>"if a show runs for more than 2 seasons we get a pay rise"
>netoworks
>"okay"
>never renew anything for a third season ever again

Most of the budget for an episode of Family Guy is for the voice actors and writers, because they're afraid people would stop watching if the voices changed or if they stopped paying Seth MacFarlane's studio's likely exorbitant fees.

Also unlike a lot of kids cartoons the animation for Family Guy is done in America.

Basically shows like Family Guy and the Simpsons are big scams where FOX has no choice but to use specific American production companies and actors, so they can charge whatever the fuck they want.

Also your example of Pokemon is unusual for your average kids anime, most of which are like what said, including previous seasons of Pokemon. Most American kids shows are just as shoddily made, but they have to pay the writers/storyboarders way more.

Why have you guys been spamming these webms on every board? I've seen it on Sup Forums, Sup Forums, Sup Forums and now Sup Forums. Yes, the new pokemon anime has nice animation.

because westerners are smarter, more profit so better paychecks

uhhhhhh? I only posted this on this thread LOL. A new pokemon episode came out recently so no shit people make webms/gifs out of it. But just because of your comment I'll post on more boards to spite you more :)

Anime tends to look better than western, but it uses most most of its animation budget in small bursts like the the fight scene in your webm. Notice how the rest of that series is mostly has limited animation and when people are talking it's mostly just still characters with flapping lips?
youtu.be/KL--HW2sj90

Because Sup Forums is full of annoying cancerous crossboarding spammers.

That wasn't what he said at all.

Are we looking at the same WEBM? Looks fucking shit to me, unlike Rick and Morty.

...

>You can have my butt.
>Don't dodge the question.

kek.

Westerns puts budget into inbetween frames, Anime uses most of its budget in fights scenes, leaving the rest of the show with very limited animation

idgi, why are americans so inefficient at everything?

western animation is made in korea

They like cartoons more there.
There are more detailed reasons, but the short answer is that a lot more Japanese people consume and create cartoons, so the industry is healthier.

sure, compare a brand that's sold billions of game cartridges and even consoles to a shitty western cartoon that's maybe sold a few thousands apps

you need a lower bar to compare that microdick to?

I wouldn't call near-slave labour and a culture of people working to death healthy.

CalArts doesnt teach perspective and western comics are drawn from tracing. Its why western cartoons use a lot psychedelic scenes and why comic book characters have no movement.

Different culture. Anime is done by slaves who would draw and animate what you just posted for cheap. Japanese animators and artists are abused constantly (at least, most of them are) and that doesnt fly in the US. 10K an episode for japanese animators is a lot for them. You want american cartoons to start looking like that? Make the people storyboarding here in the US slaves.Thats how you do it.
Also, you just posted a clip from an anime based on one of Japan´s most popular franchises of all time. Of course its gonna be well animated.
Those 10K are a lot for a japanese production.

>Implying there's anything more cancerous than Sup Forumsmblr

it's all going to change once all the major anime artists are going to work for Netflix.

Netflix will save anime and help create decent series that appeal to the west.

When I see those animu eyes, I wanna plug them out by a screwdriver from every single copy of this Jap shit.

You mean eyes that occupy half of the face like these?

maybe if anime didn't rely on rotation and scaling and filters any more

You mean eyes that occupy half of the face like these?

pokemon is a billion dollar industry

but all the other animes is about investment, a studio wants to cause impact with a product they really believe and they really deliver a good animation into it, but as soon as the second season start, well, depending on the outcome, the art goesto shit as well

For the longest time western animation has been much better at animating body movement and I prefer that. The animation isn't my biggest gripe with the west. It's that it all tries to be kid comedy shit.

Why do retards think only America creates cartoons?

I would allow these. But not those of Scott Pilgrim's characters. There is something significant in eyes made by gooks, but I can't name it.

We have minimum wage laws in America.
Japan is a shit country and despite what Weebs think it is a horrible place to live.

smfh

Agreed.
Smoother animation would be nice, but the idea that all animation is for kids or "adult" comedies is what's really holding back western shit.

Yeah, they have an amazing track record with anime so far.

japanese animators are basically slaves

scott pilgrim eyes are like the same size though

different labor standards

american cartoons uses less slaves

It's not horrible but obviously no big country in the world can compare to the kind of societies/cultures/economies that Northwestern Europeans create.

>this thread again
fuck off Sup Forums

Only less Japanese slaves than in the 1980s.

nowadays we use Korean, Filipino and Canadian slave labor.

...

I think it all lies in character's actions, not how they look like. These attacks of anger out of nothing at females. These "alpha-like" behavior of males. Planting this different culture into ours results in childish, sugary behavior, behind which lurks often a psychopathic, cold person.

Fucking this. Sure, you have a lot of artists and animators out east, but the only reason that they have so much content is because of the above-mentioned culture. You don't tend to see that sort of thing here in the West - for one, there aren't enough skilled animators, and most of those that are tend to congregate towards Disney or Pixar. For two, there isn't as much respect for the medium by your average American consumer. Sure, there might be some people who say, 'Oh wow, this looks cool,' but live-action tends to draw more people in terms of visuals.

And lastly, it's simply because the industry simply isn't conducive for anybody to work together like the Japanese can. Most American animation companies are spread out all over the place - Williams Street is in Georgia, Titmouse is in New York, Marvel's is in Glendale, and Cartoon Network's animation is keyed in L.A. and sent over to Korea, so if you think any of the talent comes together to make something awesome like they do in Japan, you're dead wrong. The last time a team of great western animators got together to make something awesome, it got utterly butchered and thrown out, despite being some of the best animation ever made. It simply doesn't work that way.

Two hurricanes weren't enough, amerilard?

Both South Korea and North korea btw.

This isn't Sup Forums this time, this is /vp/. Pokemon droughts tends to make them irritating like this.

It's kinda funny to think that the biggest hit in recent years for Japan was made pretty much by individuals in a doujin circle that especialized in making 3d MMD stuff.

The key members of it went on with their life and works in different fields until one of them was given a project to see if he was worthy of the director seat, he called onto his doujinshi circle mates after he was given creative control and the rest is history.

Kemono Friends it's quite a joke visually when it comes to animation, it had a couple of good stills but in general it looks bad, however there is a lot of craft put into scene composition, shots, pacing and small stuff that hook you in outside of the nostalgia pandering scheme it has going for.

In short projects that are supposed to be failures can be salvaged if you get the right people to work for them, KF was the pet project of Mine, quite a big name in the Anime globe but KF was failing hard until Tatsuki was given creative control and the we ended with this thing.

Honestly you can't see this kind of stuff in the West.

you refer to men and women as "males" and "females" like you're some weird space alien who doesn't understand how creepy that sounds. i wonder who the real psychopath here is.

You are getting another earthquake one of these days, nipland.

>rwby

fuck off weeb

>Also, you just posted a clip from an anime based on one of Japan´s most popular franchises of all time. Of course its gonna be well animated.
Haha, no. Popularity has nothing to do with well animated scenes.

...

Has it caused a massive spike in Zoo visit or helped save areas affected by earthquake damage? Has it sold buckets to a point they have to restock them only for them to run out of stock in multiple occasions? Or better yet empty stores with their merchandise to a point those stores had to be repurposed to become art galleries, while a couple of rookie VA get to be on national television twice for a live presentation, has it achieved that?

I'm not ditching on RWBY, but Kemono Friends is a complete monster right now.

...

That's actually pretty true.

This makes me think, why is Berserks new animation so shit

>Toei made me like this

Suffice it to say that I'm in no way an expert on eastern animation, but given time, people, and passion, you can do pretty much anything on either side of the pond. The reason America is so good at making animated movies/CGI films is because Hollywood's production style actually allows for individuals from multiple companies to work together, similar to Japan's TV anime (a la One Punch Man) and they tend to only announce a release when they're absolutely positive the work is finished.

If I recall correctly, one of the reasons KyoAni has such good quality anime, it's because they spend two seasons working on one season and actually give their workers salaried pay.

If you want a decent example of letting American animators do their own thing on a TV show, check out some of the animation on Superjail - apparently they gave them an enormous amount of leeway when making the show.

>implying britbongs would ever own more than 100 USD at any given moment

All I'm saying is that they got something so dead it scared away even the most hardcore necrophiliac as franchise stands and turned into the most successful Anime in decades.

The west can't pull that off in 12 episodes of air time, 5 episodes in and this was already out of control.

Small studio with basically no experience. The reason behind how they got the rights of making it is unknown to me.

Miura doesn't give a Fuck about Berserk anymore due to boredom.

Because America is in debt.

Doesn't mean anything.

>another thread where someone comes on Sup Forums to brag about a recent anime segment involving characters flailing around like inflatable tubemen and lasers shooting everywhere as if that's impressive

Also, stop pretending like everyone hasn't seen the amount of QUALITY from the recent Pokemon anime.

>the animation for Family Guy is done in America
>yet every season has at least one joke about how the animation is done in Korea
Really activates the synapses.

The west it's good at that because we don't aim at niche markets and talent gets sucked into dedicated studios instead of being a bit more free like it is in japan, they also have doujin culture wich is quite a few steps ahead from freelance stuff in the West when it comes to organization.

And idols, mostly idols.

LOLOLO>LOLOL WHAT!!!!! Pokemon decided to finaly have good animation since fucking when? after the orange islands it was nonstop shit so i stopped watching

Still more impressive than any Western cartoons airing right now. Notice how the only ones that bother to post actual animated webms are the anime posters when all anyone can do to defend their precious cartoons is post freeze frames and call it "QUALITY"?

>With this power I will become the Pokemon Master of the new world.
>Humans are so interesting.

I feel like 10k USD in Japan would buy you more shit than 10K in the USA.

idk

The lowest point is hard to trace, Hoenn started abusing stock footage but it got ridiculous in Sinnoh and Unova where they didn't even bother to match the backgrounds and instead replaced them by dynamic colors.

XY got a tad better then the switch to slapstick prone models seemed to ruin it, however these slapstick models are actually good at making actions while remaining on model as the few fights in SM have shown us.

If anything they started to choreograph some good stuff for the second trial and it has gone up from that point onwards.

It's hard to get used to it at first though.

>Pokemon decided to finaly have good animation since fucking when?
2013 with XY
>LOLOLO>LOLOL WHAT!!!!!
Please never post again you underage retard.
youtu.be/rn9cBl8ZQHU?t=112

Go back to fucking reddit. That's the only place I've ever seen anyone give a fuck about using those words like it's offensive.

>Better animation

Hahahahaha. No, weeb, 10 seconds of animation bursts does not qualify for better animation overall.

Every time you people start crossboarding to post examples of "better animation" from recent anime, it's fireworks/lasers shooting all over the place, overused shakycam, or characters moving around like lanky spastics as if they're all Luffy from One Piece. If you want to impress us, show us some well animated physical interactions instead of the same type of overexaggerated transformations we've seen done even in low budgeted shows for decades.

and documentaries, police reports and tumblr are the only times i see people refer to others as "male" or "female." it's not offensive, it's just fucking weird and creepy.

I'd take 10 seconds of animation bursts over shitty animation literally at all times.

Shaky cams help a lot more than what they hinder if you know what you are doing, heck a bit of feedback to show the impact of a blow by accompanying it with some cam shake can make the scene work.

I'll give that the west can do impact choreography better than Japan.

I haven't seen the pokemon anime in a long while since I was kid but I noticed around D/P that they try to mask their inability to animate good fight scenes by having the monsters dash and twirl around in close-ups like in instead of actually putting effort into choreography.

I honestly don't know how they didn't see this coming.

I give up on this thread.

Inbetween frames don't count.

Because series like family guy and simpsons get syndicated for eternity on hundreds of channels and pay back in short time

Your typical seasonal anime gets forgotten in like a few months

Capitalism was a mistake. It's nothing but trash.

Just like your parents gave up on you. Thanks for perpetuating the cycle.

>Ever comparing the entire western hemisphere to a single country (an island at that)
OP, I know this is shitty bait designed to stir the pot, but what kind of dull and pathetic life do you have to live to carry this out so regularly?

Higher, non-slave wages for animators, much higher rates for voice actors, and vastly higher compensation for executives and producers.

Mostly the two latter things though since most animation is outsourced to Korea.

I think this is the same gag who thinks the am anime is better than xy

Gook or burger animation are equally shit.

Froganimation is the real deal.

Yes, it's possible to compare a giant in animation like Japan with the entire western hemisphere.

We are not talking about other stuff like quality of life, job opportunities and reprduction rate. Stop right there with that overdone argument, we already know.

I like how weebs always bring up the notion that West = USA, but couldnt say jackshit when told by good french animation

Why hasnt been in the Sup Forums rules to make these thereads deleteworthy
