it wasn't even a bad movie, what the fuck
>even the fucking Emoji Movie had a better opening weekend
I never even gave a shit about Ninjago but this saddens me
more like ninjano haha
franchise fatigue is becoming quicker and quicker in the recent years, even transformers and pirates underperformed
It was too soon after the LEGO Batman Movie and people were still burned out from it. I'm not surprised that nobody cared about Ninjago.
Shitty computer "animated" Lego sets a flash in the pan success, who could have figured?
Pirates BO
>$794.1 million
Transformers BO
>$605.4 million
Really?? I mean, I know that's still technically lower than the billion dollar goal these studios shoot for, but do they have to use the terms "underperformed"? Can't they just be glad they managed to squeeze that much money out of a fifth fucking installment of a tired franchise?
That's the economic world for you.
>Another Lego Universe dies
Heh. Speaking of Ninjago, isn't an action series? Judging by the trailer it looked like another comedy.
Lego has been trying to push Ninjago for years now and nobody has ever given a single solitary shit. This is utterly unsurprising.
No one likes Ninjago.
Just give us a Lego Harry Potter or Lego LOTR movie already.
Good, LEGO can fuck right off with their 20 games a year.
Lego batman had the batman franchise to ride off of, ninjago had none of that
>Lego Harry Potter
Not without Rickman
>No one likes Ninjago.
There was a FOURTH pirates movie?
A fifth one?
What could the story even be, just Johnny Depp meeting historical pirates or something?
You WISH it was that interesting.
It's another "Johnny fucked over a pirate crew that's come back to haunt him" episode.
>Just give us a Lego Harry Potter or Lego LOTR movie already.
Why not a crossover? Hell, why not have all their licences have a big crossover, even the ones WB doesn't like to play with?
but what about the Lego TV universe?
They already teased it during the ghost arc.
im just waiting for a lego indiana jones/lego star wars film
though if netflix is any indicator of anything theyre more likely to make a lego marvel film
I liked Ninjago but it should've ended with Lloyd becoming the golden ninja and defeating the overlord/saving Garmadon
>75+ Episodes
*cough*LEGODimensions*cough*
they really should have just done one LEGO movie a year
people just dont really care about Lego ninjago,
I wish people would get sick of capeshit already. It's fucking ruined Summer blockbusters.
If the first Lego Movie and the Lego Batman Movie were any indication, Ninjago just isn't the kind of Lego movie people actually want to see. They want to see characters they already know, and it wouldn't hurt to have them crossover with other known and established characters.
I'm sure Ninjago has its fair share of fans, but it's certainly not enough of a draw to justify a theatrical movie. A home video release, maybe, but this? No way.
I can't help but wonder if the parents have learned of the repercussions of getting the kids interested in Legos when the actual sets are expensive as fuck
>it wasn't even a bad movie, what the fuck
It was pretty bad, user.
I'm sorry.
As someone who likes Ninjago, the fact the movie basically just restarts the series bothers me.
This movies is a couple years too late. The tv show should have built up to this movie or at least been connected to the show.
Half the characters have been replaced
>Hell, why not have all their licences have a big crossover, even the ones WB doesn't like to play with?
Essentially happened in Lego Batman. I mean for fuck's sake it had Voldemort, Sauron, Wicked Witch of the West, and the Kraken from OG Clash of the Titans.
I liked how fucking Ninjago has faced more shit (ghosts, snakes, rock people, robots, ghosts, djinn, time ninjas )than most shows have to deal in their entire run.
For what they wanted it to be I think they might as well have just made a new IP. The movie was surprisingly good though I liked it more than the Lego Batman movie personally. But only by a little bit
Thats what happens when you push a toyline thats years old, barely remembered, and has to be completely rewritten for normal people.
And use a Taylor Swift song.
I didn't give a shit about Ninjago but because of how enjoyable the first movies were, I went to see this one.
Fucking loved it.
It's the tiny things that sell these movies.
Test.
>Taylor Swift song
Which one, and Best Movie 10/10
Just saw the movie yesterday, there wasn't a Taylor Swift song in the movie. The soundtrack was actually done by Mark Mothersbaugh from DEVO so it was pretty good, even the generic pop theme song had entertaining lyrics
MUH BIONICLE
The only good thing about Pirates 5 is it wrapped up shit so hopefully it's the last one.
>And use a Taylor Swift song.
But taylor swift is an aryan goddess
It had the Davey Jones cliffhanger though
I dunno, that stupid Bad Blood one.
I meant in the trailer. Its a giant warning sign that says "AVOID THIS!"
She's an ugly, stuck up bitch that really needs to go away.
What cliffhanger?
>make a movie based on a franchise that already has a cartoon series
>make it nothing like it, so the only fans and kids that had that exposure would not like it
Perfect.
Should've used the same team that animated the tv series but NOOOOOO. Retards should've fucking listened.
Are you sure you're not a homosexual boco
>make a movie about shitty power rangers rip off
>only fans are very young children
>expect it to do well
wtf does Sup Forums think?
Like, 99% sure yeah.
You have to be gay to not think taylor swift is aryan women perfection
>Should've used the same team that animated the tv series
Holy shit no. Why? It would have looked terrible. The TV show is barely TV show quality CGI.
Well, it still did better than The DCEU and The Dark Universe.
You're insane.
She's got the body of a ten year old boy and a face that looks like it was stuck in a vice and someone kept squeezing. And what the fuck are you squinting at, bitch? Are you French Stewart now?
That's due to budget issues you idiot.
Give an animation team better shit and they make better things holy fuck you can't be this stupid.
Still better than the movie
MUH
BONKLES
>what the fuck you squinting at, bitch? Are you French Stewart now?
I'm glad Boco is still here
>go See Kinomans yesterday
>theater is literally packed
>mostly little kids
>ask the ticket guy if it's for the lego movie
>"nah, bruv, it's for IT"
>stupid
>"AVOID THIS!"
>ugly, stuck up
Neck yourself.
Does anyone else think Dave Franco was an odd choice?
>couldn't even make half of what the two other Lego movies made on the first weekend
seriously what the fuck happened. Did they fail at marketing this shit? You'd think with all the terrible animated movies this year kids would go to this one, hopeing it wouldn't be shit.
It's actually their most well-selling original franchise of all time. I can see them trying to branch out, but expecting anyone over the age of 10 to give a shit was their fatal flaw.
>he doesn't know
They've confirmed more in the pipeline too lol
Bruh I watched the movie, I don't remember shit about Davey Jones.
It was at the end.
Will has a nightmare and Davey Jones's shadow is over him.
Also there's a barnacle under his bed or something.
Is this after credits?
It's the least good LEGO movie so far, and Ninjago is two years past its sell-by date.
I think it may have been during.
Yeah, it was after credits.
It was almost the same damn movie as Lego Batman just with a less popular brand.
someone who didnt watch it clearly
And not nearly as good.
>and Ninjago is two years past its sell-by date.
u wot m8, new sets are constantly being made
>second Lego movie in 2017
"Seriously? Another one? I mean Lego Bat man was good but..."
>Ninjago
"What the hell is that? Oh, its some ninja Power Ranger looking thing? Eeeeeh... skip."
This is how it tanked. WB fucked up by not waiting to blow their load for at least another year or so. At least with capeshit, if there's multiple releases its multiple characters that could possibly attract audiences. (I can't explain Dr.Strange or Ant-Man though. Sorry.)
I can only speculate, but, the Ninjago movie seems to be a retread of the first 1-3 story arcs, but with a more comedic twist to them a cat playing with legos in other words....
It started out as this "collect and battle" game lego was trying to make, it was a little bit like a bizarre mix of beyblade and card games from what I gleaned from the first commercials.
Then they made a tie-in show that became fairly interesting for some time.
But yeah, I think it wound up alienating newcomers and current fans quite a bit.
There's also the fact that people don't go out to see movies as much these days.
How big is the Ninjago franchise anyway, and is it big enough to warrant an entire movie?
Because I had no clue what the hell it was when this movie was first announced.
The Lego Movie was about lego as a whole, with enough popular characters original characters that for the vast majority of movie-goers they could easily find something they liked, let that be a superhero or a franchise like star wars, or even get attached to a original character for the movie like Unikitty.
Lego Batman had Batman, arguably the most popular superhero (at least on the DC side of things) ever and most people probably have some knowledge of the batman franchise, let it be from a comic, movie, video game, or even tv series (live action or animated).
With Ninjago people probably thought it was about a franchise they have never heard of, filled with characters they know nothing about, in a world they had no exposure to.
Wait is this part of the same universe as the lego batman movie and lego movie?
This seems like a mistake. It should have been connected to the shiw.
Transformers underperformed because it was shit while the rest of the bayformers movies were good.
I haven't watched pirates yet.
I like capeshit but now that you mention it you are right. Regular summer blockbusters don't seem as common.
>Lego Movie
>Holy shit, I loved Lego as a kid, let's go see it.
>Lego Batman Movie
>Holy shit, I love Batman and it seems to be filled with inside jokes that I as a real fan will get.
>Also, I think my 2-year old nephew has seen this movie almost a hundred times and he's still not tired of it.
>Ninjago movie
>Who cares?
Yes, I get that it has its own show, but you don't see them making a Ben 10 movie.
Benefit of the doubt, if WB had waited at least a year or so from Lego Batman to release it, they could have built up a bit more to the hype. Maybe somehow tie the movie to the show in some way? Do some cross promotion with that Lego Dimensions game (if they were smart and didnt waste resources on kits for Ghostbusters 2016 or nuPPG)
I haven't seen the movie (for almost the exact reasons given in that example) but it nowhere near looked dreadful. I dunno... just didn't really excite me personally I guess.
To add to this, Lego Batman was specifically a spinoff based on the version of Batman within the film. That's why they could take more creative liberties and give it a fresh take compared to how most people have seen the character.
I'm sure the Ninjago movie did the same thing but like... again... in my faux normie voice I ask "What the hell's a Ninjago?" (prior to reading this thread of course.)
You arent seriously arguing Ninjago is a better universe than Bionicle was are you?
This, basically. I saw Lego movies cause I know Legos and heard it was better than expected. I saw Lego Batman because he was funny in the first movie and I know who Batman is.
I know jack shit about Ninjago other than it reruns a lot on day time CN. No desire to see that stretched out to 2 hours.
Obviously
Who cares about Ninjago?
Bionicle, Batman, Star Wars
Literally the only Legos that matter
They would have sold more tickets it out was called The Lego (Ninja) Movie.
No mainstream audience is going to buy a ticket to some Ninjago thing.
I can actually see that kind of working.
"Dude, Legos."
"Dude, ninjas."
......
i didnt even know this existed until now.
Thats the real issue. If I had known, I would have gone and watch it.
That's a shame.
I was looking forward to a cheesy ninja movie with lego aesthetics. I love dumb kung-fu ninja movies.
Is that what it was or am I prescribing more worth than it actually was?
seriously, how do you fuck up an idea as simple as "Lego and Ninjas".
There should be kids dragging their mothers all around the block to go see that movie.
What did they do? Try to put in some deep story? Poor animation? Lame catch-phrases? I don't get it.
They used her shitty song in the trailer. I haven't seen the movie yet, so I'm relieved they didn't use it in the actual movie.
or perhaps just no one gives a fuck about Ninjago
They care but kids who like the show are most likely confused that the character don't look the same, sound the same, the fact that Garmadon is back, and has no connection to the show.
with S7 of Ninjago happening earlier this year about Nya and Kai and then S8 coming out soon, as a kid I'd be confused as hell about what's going on.
Is that the reason why that first TMNT movie did super good in theaters despite having the same roadblocks for kids who probably had lesser means to understanding what different continuities are?
Again, maybe its just that no one gives a fuck about Ninjago.
Simple; you put it in the same year as another Lego branded movie with a much bigger, much wider recognizable brand. That way even the people who would have watched wouldn't feel the absolute need to do so since that first movie's pretty damn fresh in their mind.
>Is that the reason why that first TMNT movie did super good in theaters
That and people wanting to see a train wreck with Megan Fox
>Harry Potter being worthy of being in the same movie as Lotr, even in Lego form
I liked the lego stuff. The story was pretty bland though.
