I worked in at Toys'R'Us in college when Frozen came out. The first Christmas season the movie was out no one gave a damn about it. Our store had an entire girl's isle dedicated to Disney stuff and 70% was Frozen, all virtually untouched. The next Christmas season, shit went crazy and the isle was constantly empty. I also had a second job at the time teaching indoor swim lessons and every fucking girl from 1-13 was Elsa for Halloween that year. It's weird how everyone slept on the movie when it was in theaters though. After finally seeing the movie, I cannot understand why it was such a phenomenon. I guess it was engineered to appeal to little girls and nothing more.

Frozen came out Thanksgiving holiday, so yeah there wasn't a whole lot of time for the craze to catch on and merchandise to start flying off the shelf before christmas had come and gone. The kids were too busy *going to the movies* over and over again.
The whole sexual-blossoming subtext hit young girls right between the eyes
