Lucas did not make the movie he wanted to when he made STAR WARS back in '77. And yet it turned out great. Lucas then gave up a lot of control when TESB was made and it was great too. It didn't make as much money, but it's a great (arguably better) film. Lucas then took much control back for ROTJ and it is not made as well as the previous two. It has shit lighting and camera work and having damn near an entire act of a movie focused on making friends with teddy bears was a mistake. He also got divorced around this time who was undeniably able to balance out his weird sperginess with some human warmth.
Yet by the time of 1995, people had convinced Lucas(or maybe he just convinced himself) that he was solely responsible for the greatness of Star Wars and that he was more than capable of making all three of the OT films even better. Then the Special Editions were born.
I didn't really count those because they aren't really combatants in any sense that I can derive, but you're welcome to add them.
Also to the replies at the end of last thread, they're irrelevant, because I'm going fully anonymous for the next few months until TLJ comes out and I sperg over the vehicles in it. The only way you'll recognize me is if you spot some guy going to autistic lengths to defend the Nebulon B escort frigate. I only adopted a persona for the sake of the infodumps; the vehicles I wanted to list, and the troopers I was asked to list.

Francis Ford Coppola refers to the 70's as an era in film where many great minds collaborated. The key word there being COLLABORATED. And George Lucas is no exception.
And I'm not saying that Lucas didn't collaborate during the PT, but it is clear just from reading interviews that Lucas was surrounded by mostly Yes men who never questioned Lucas when it came to big decisions. I'm sure they would speak their opinions, but no one ever challenged him, not the way people back in the 70's did.
Lucas, for one reason or another, failed to grasp that Star Wars was never just his vision. It was a collaborative effort. So when it came time to make the SE, he put his Lucas-isms in scenes where they just didn't fit.

This is a meme you stole from RLM. Number one, TONS of people who worked for George on the OT worked for him on the PT. Number two, one of the very first things George did when he began developing the prequels was ask people like Spielberg and Kasdan for help writing and directing. And every single one of them told him that he was better off doing it all himself.

In the documentary FROM STAR WARS TO JEDI Lucas admits he wanted to redo the Death Star battle from ANH with better special effects.
He also admits to doing Jabba's palace just to redo the cantina sequence because he never liked the creatures in the cantina.

Nick Gillard consulted with the developers during production to make sure that each jedi/sith character had their own distinct style and technique. They basically accidentally made a decent fighting game while developing it as a third person action game.
Really think it would have been better if they went with the Greedo and Chewi approach, and gave them their own distinct languages I think, atleast for Neimodians and Gungans

It's not a hard conclusion to come to for someone who likes the OT better. Other than ANH, George only did the stories. In the PT, he directed, had sole screenwriting credit on 1 and 3, and cowrote 2.
