Why did manufacturing jobs leave the USA?

And should they be brought back? If so how?

1. NAFTA

2. Vote for Trump

...

>got rid of tariffs
>trade deals like NAFTA
>legal immigration driving down low skill labor jobs
>illegal immigration completing undermining entire industries and destroying wages
>Jews

We have like the highest corporate tax in the world. It's way way cheaper to just make shit elsewhere and send it here. That's why we have an overabundance of service companies instead.

Raise tariffs and reduce the corporate income tax and many manufacturing companies will start to manufacture here again. Also crack down on illegal labor, that shit does nothing but drive wages down.

No, the millennials won't be able to do these jobs.

Carbon credits were cheaper there. Also they were cold so needed some global warming.

the jooz are trying to turn the country into a pussified freak show, so they give us 'service' jobs where your job is to suck someone's dick all day. that way you get used to living on your knees.

YES WE FUCKING CAN REEE I JUST WANT A GOOD $40 AN HOUR SKILLED MANUFACTURING JOB

Because it's the only way to keep goods cheap with inflation of the dollar.

People get mad whenever their factory jobs get taken away, but they don't bat an eye at how low the cost of items they buy are.

It's fucking help when no one can get a job

10 years ago I could easily buy something made in the USA today I have to go to a dedicated made in america store to find anything.

Top kek. You say this whenever the demand for almost all trade professions is at an all-time high.

Go to trade school or get a college education. It's that simple.

Wages allow demand.

Business has to pay rent in the form of interest on loans to investors, dividends to owners, monopolies of suppliers, and patent protection that kills competition.

Business has to exploit labor and customer to maximize profits.

Business goes under

The plutocrats who want slavery blame wages, and you believe them because you are stupid.

When you finally understand how you have been suckered into a slave society by corporatism, you will stop making up stories about foreigners and globalization, and start to vote in the socialism that will fix the system.

>You say this whenever the demand for almost all trade professions is at an all-time high.
"No"

W-What could you find that was made in the US?

The EPA told our steel mill we had to add a limestone thingy to our coal boiler to make it cleaner. It would cost us about 4 million and take a year to get the plant running cleaner. The guy made it clear in 4 years there will be tighter emissions. The boss shuttered the place took 25 people and opened a steel importer business with his industry contacts.

nafta

you can't compete with chink wages and no epa

>retard alert

>retard alert

Kek $40/hr, more like $22-25

DAH

KOP

BAH

GAARRHHGGHH!!

I think they should but i don't know how they woukd

High corporate tax rate and out of control unions driving up cost of labor forcing companies to move overseas where people aren't entitled fucks and will work for peanuts

Union's unrealistic demands of entitlement for wage and benefits increases beyond the societal average, coupled with things like NAFTA giving manufacturing corporations an out to move their production overseas to avoid those unrealistic Union demands were the twin punches that dropped US manufacturing.

NAFTA lowered the cost of outsourcing.

As a businessman, you'd want to make the largest profit margin possible.

Therefore, you outsource to Mexico because it's cheaper to produce across borders, import, and sell.

To correct this, all that needs to be done is to make it cost prohibitive to engage in this practice.

Enter Trump.

>NAFTA Repealed
>Re-instituting Tariffs on American National companies that are importing manufactured goods
>wait 1 year

Tada, manufacturing is now back in the United States.

Just tax everything imported.
Success.

SKILLED user, SKILLED. Not fucking QC inspecting injection molded dildos

youtu.be/eBPqksG9nbA

It's not a fucking mystery how to bring back production to your own borders. Just look what every developed coutnry did back during the industrial revolution. Tariffs

>become brazil
>things not native to america cost 500% more
suck a dick

Yeah same shit in Australia, we are transitioning to "service" jobs & the sad thing is so many cucks are happy with it

Only thing they will be servicing in the future is drinks to rich asians
and Im a poor as fuck asian so it does depress me a little bit that my parents left China for another China, work for next to nothing for rich people, fucking lame, it really makes me hate White people at times that they happily let this happen

Because trade deals and immorality allowed jewy globalist thinking capitalists to outsource work and employ foreigners.
When we force capitalism to be more nationalistic and kick out all the foreigners, stop outsourcing and fucking MURDER all globalist thought, unemployment for natives will finally decrease.

youtube.com/watch?v=-X_IQHWOuX8

The funny thing is that the US has always had tariffs until they started getting dismantled at first in the 1910's and then really fucking dismantled in the late 1960's and then it just snowballed from there. Hell, there was a time where the US federal government was mostly paid for by tariffs.

Because of trade deals like NAFTA and outsourcing to China and India. Trade deals, outsourcing and the Schengen agreement destroyed the Norwegian manual Labour, why hire and pay a Norwegian Builder 150 nok/h when a polack will do the same job for 50 nok/h

Not just that but another important thing to remember is that you MUST not have financial capitalism rather something like industrial capitalism.

Since these jobs are being filled by robots it doesn't really matter.

80s kid here, I think the US were too lazy designing cars.
I mean a brand-new 1992 Honda Civic was reliable as hell with good fuel consumption
The american equivalent was a Chevrolet Cavalier, and it was garbage

Quit being a bunch of pussies and stand up for what you believe, even if it hurts
I just quit a job working for a company that has machinery made in China and yet brands itself as an American company.
The cognitive dissonance was horrible.
I just walked out during their busy season when they really needed me and it feels great.

Can't create jobs that don't have value, demanding american manufacturers stay in the U.S. will just give foreign ones the edge anyways.

The skub will be made outside the U.S. whatever you do because that's the price americans demand it at . Unless you want to put tarrifs on that too. You have to protect the whole industry to keep jobs there.

"no"

That's still more than 8 an hour

That was also from a period where no other nation could match american production. The current situation is not the same.

You mean no other country could mat our production since fucking independence? Get fucked you fucking mong

and people bitch about wanting 15.00 an hour at walmart.

people would love these 22-25 hourly jobs

Because if errything that is sold is going to be put together by a filthy shitwit, it might as well be cheap.

Once upon a time, if you wanted to, for example, make a car in Japan or Mexico you had to import it to the US to sell it here. It was taxed when it entered, something like 30%.

This was done so there was an incentive to keep jobs in America; unless you could make it for 31% cheaper elsewhere, you were better off making it in the US.

So suddenly that gets reduced or removed.

Now the US labor force has to compete with third world shit holes and do the job for up to 5% more than them or whatever the current tariff rate is for that item as opposed to 30%.

So, basically, fp is in fact bp

>I hate niggers so I believe everything Trump says about economics

>implying high cost of living for manufactured goods that forces people to be self sufficient and doesn't allow them to become consumerist robots is a bad thing
>b-but muh gdp
>b-but muh infinite growth needed for capitalism
Gas yourself

I live in a small town in Colorado. Once upon a time, wet made airplane parts. Some for the military. The local college pushed out engineers, the local tech school pushed out CNC techs.
They pulled out about ten years ago. Moved everything to Korea. Most of the people I know that did work there are driving water trucks in the oilfield, or doing construction.
About a $5-15 dollar an hour job loss, depending on what you were doing, to now.

Bring them back? Well the parts were used in military aircraft. How about demanding that US war machines are made in the US, and not shipped off to foreign countries as a matter of national security and financial well being?

Thanks for a non partisan thread that's actually interesting.

that's a big tariff

I have a vegetable garden, my manufacturing job is watering my plants. When it rains, I'm out of a job. Should I build a roof over my garden ?

This literal retard wants to de-industrialize

For 5 years I've been supporting my family on $17. Literally have everything I want except I'm having to work. Would love to be NEET and make the same. If I was making $25/hour I'd be in the ultimate comfy zone.

For you.

I'm not saying complete deindustrialization just to the point where there is a demand for quality goods that will last and reusable items along with simple shit like people gardening like they used to.

...

try getting a job a retarded uneducated mexican monkey can't do you fucking retards

Nixon. If he hadn't opened up relations with China, we wouldn't have developed economic ties with China, which means we would have more manufacturing jobs still in the United States.

what's an h1b visa, user?

respecting human rights is very expensive

in a global market, you can just move offshore to somewhere where there is no OSHA, where there are no lawsuits for wrongful deaths, where you can easily bribe the government to look the other way.

in short, corporations are amoral and psychopathic monsters who don't care about human life, if they have the option to trample you or your family for profit, they will.

the best option is not to give them that option, however you do it doesn't generally matter much.

yes trump is the better option before i get called a leftist

FPBP, sort of.

youtube.com/watch?v=Rkgx1C_S6ls

We must not forget how labor unions kinda decimated profit margins. Hyperbole aside, a person pushing a little green or red button for 8 hours a day made almost the same as a Vet or a Pharmacist in some instances.

Now granted, manufacturing jobs don't have to make a comeback, but rather, manufacturing companies need to bring production back to the US and automate the living shit out of it. This will still produce some jobs, though, as there will always be a need to have folks fix the automation systems.

Trump has also made it abundantly clear that mining will be higher than it's been in about 20-30 years. Logistics will see a bounce upward because of that.

Right down to simple shit like, candy manufacturing, is now done somewhere else, and imported back in to the states.

Fucking sad.

Why the contempt for the working class? They are your brothers, you fucking kike wannabe.

Automation.

There is more manufacturing than ever before in the US, and the manufacturing amount still grew a respectable amount after NAFTA.

The manufacturing is still in the US. The jobs are not.

Explain please.

Financial capitalism is what allows for consumerism and consumer/service based economies, meanwhile industrial capitalism is tied to the success and development of industries, ie gets a boost when factories retool. Industrial capitalism is still vulnerable to recessions but not nearly the same financial capitalism since the former is actually tied to something beyond just the value of a currency.

he thinks he smarter than a prole. when the chink start eating his lunch too, he'll be squealing like a pig

Ah right, it makes sense now, thanks, user.

The same reason mines were closed here in Britain. Cheap foreign Labor and the removal/lowering of tarrifs.

>Why did manufacturing jobs leave the USA?
The government interfered with the free market and made it cheaper to make those products elsewhere.

Meddling in the market includes things like min wage, high taxes, and huge numbers of regulations as well as workers rights etc.

Basically when they ended capitalism they made it more financially profitable to make this stuff elsewhere, and so that's where it goes.

you do realize that they would have to raise tariffs to almost the same as the taxes to get them back

It's cheaper to have chink slaves build them then Americans
How to fix it IMO ;

> tell all business big and small , you have 3 years to prepare ,mass exporting of jobs and labor will be heavily regulated or banned
> this gives them time to set up here, if they don't, they collapse, a
>no bailouts
lower taxes on big companies so they have more room to expand, and can hire more and it's eaiser to start business, we hate on big business, rightly so, but it's still run by people who need money to get them running properly
> china collapses
It would hurt the economy in the short term but in th long term it would heavily strengthen it

This as a side effect could improve the movie industry becuse its not longer such a huge risk to make something original

why the fuck you need 40 bucks an hour i was make 18 or less and had plenty of money what the fuck you spending it all on

He has to buy the latest apple products on release day.

>robots
try bengali sweat shop workers

mortgage, boats, kids education, cars, retirement.

It's a visa that you get, when carrying a certain influenza virus

Please raise the minimum wage so we can get our IT and pharma jobs back.

It's greedy fucks like you that drive companies away. You want top dollar and want to work 8 hours a day. Fuck off

>small towns with industry
Germany is still like this

Mortgage i understand
boats is a luxury not a need
kids again a luxury not needed
car needed
retirement good luck with that one if you are not a millionaire most likely you will be living off what ever the government gives you

>boats is a luxury not a need
>kids again a luxury not needed
not needed... fuck off carl marx.
Kids a luxury.. are you some fucking sterile third gender moron. Technically people and life isn't needed, so go buy some rope.
>car needed
not if you live in a city.
>retirement good luck with that one if you are not a millionaire most likely you will be living off what ever the government gives you
well yeah that is why I have put my self in a position where I will be a millionaire by the time i retire.

What yo do not need either one to live and i do not live in a city so i need a car and the chances of you becoming a millionaire are the same as being struck by lightning and eaten by a shark at the same time

China is gonna be a bigger market soon user.USD weaken every tick and tock. How much longer will we go on in ignorance having no reserve currencies

you do not need to live.
you do not need a car.
just go off into the wilderness and live off the land
you are not your fucking khakis

If you are making 110,000 a year in your early 30s, being a millionaire by the time of retirement is not terribly difficult.

20 years ago I was graduating college, and was nervous about finding a job. I kept hearing about outsourcing, and I really didn't know what I wanted to do.

Anyway, everytime I brought it up, I got the same fucking response.

"Well we are a service economy now"

And I wondered, what future lie in working at a call center, or some sort of customer service related field.

I worked in sales, desperately shilling some bullshit fro $10 an hour, or maybe a partial commission/wage deal. Clothes, jewelry, cell phones, computer software were all stuff I sold.

Retail is not a future.

"service based economies" are garbage, and they create an army of literal wage slaves with no chance of upward mobility. I guess if working at Starbucks appeals, then it works for some people, but not for me.

>kids again a luxury not needed
fucking killyourself, its the only the primary reason I'd want a well paying job to begin with

> kids a luxury
when you have kids, you feel like a certain responsability
t. someone with kids

>"service based economies" are garbage,
move to a different part of the service sector, like being a doctor, a research scientist, and investment manager, an investment banker, software engineer, chemical engineer, materials engineer, etc etc.

Manufacturing goes heavy into automation. No reason those plants shouldn't belong here in the states.

stop thinking about just the button pushing jobs, think of everything else that goes into that plant to sustain it.

1. taxes - property/etc.
2. utilities - energy is a big part of the equation
3. the facility itself - takes a lot of cash to build
4. support - those who do work here will need to live (rent/mortgage), eat, drive to work/etc.
5. admin type jobs - factories dont just run on a bunch of peons
6. transportation - factories have to move shit

etc. etc.

If i must

The US was a manufacturing powerhouse and still is today but jobs have been cut significantly. Technology creates outputs far greater than yesteryear. The basic labor jobs that are going overseas from America are leaving because businesses want more profit so they don't see a need to stay here in the USA when they can pay people in the third world a modicum of the pay that american workers would be expecting. Technology is of course the biggest threat to human labor in jobs. More efficient technology makes productivity go up, creating surpluses of goods while also eliminating unnecessary expenses (i.e a large section of human workers). Jobs like manufacturing will not come back to the US for humans. And pretty soon you will see this taking place in the 3rd world, technology and rising living standards renders mass human labor in these countries unnecessary and a hinderance towards greater profit. Except technology is becoming even more advanced now. Programming bots exist, repair bots exist. Soon it will be entirely autonomous (50 years). At which point there will be no jobs left to gain.

This desu, if youre not getting out of bed for atleast 12 hours of work dont even bother

YOU CAN WORK YOUR WORKERS 12 HOUR SHIFTS AND PAY THEM 25 CENTS A DAY
T. GUY WHO WORKED WITH A SHOE COMPANY

>tfw mechanical engineering degree
>tfw 4+ years experience
>tfw out of work for a year

plz bring jobs Mr. Trump! You're my last hope.

Exactly, so starting a war with Russia or some mudslime, terrorist muslim nation, or working on a global elite, seems kind of pointless, or rather a camouflage of the real issue at hand. Let's hope Trump has some intellectual guys on his side.

It's the liberal go to for people who complain about illegal immigration driving down wages and putting people out of work.

They basically just say 'well if you can be replaced by someone who doesn't speak the language and is willing to work in terrible conditions for next to nothing then you deserved it'
Here's how it's going in one of the restaurants that I know of: 30 something year old anchor baby applies for job in kitchen, works his ass off and gets promoted up. Now he manages back of house and is in charge of hiring in the kitchen. He won't hire anything but spics. When called on this he points out that half his crew can't speak english so he kinda can't hire an american unless they speak spanish. So now americans that want to work there have to be fucking bilingual to even have their app considered- for fucking kitchen work in their own damn country. The people who don't speak spanish won't stay on in front of house because the kitchen can't understand a fucking thing and management refuses to hold them responsible for their shortcomings ('they just didn't understand, not their fault'). Now the english speaking manager of front of house can't communicate with half her crew and the entire kitchen is spanish only. Mexicans don't eat at steakhouses very often and americans don't want to eat places where the waitstaff can't speak their language so all the customers are gone.

Now the guy who started all of this is quitting. Corporate people have gone to every other kitchen manager and begged them to take over the restaurant - they won't. Can't work with a crew that can't understand you. Can't fire the lot and rehire - corporate is afraid they'll sue, wouldn't be the first time, minorities are crazy litigious and entitled. So the only option left is to close that store.

40 jobs just gone because spics can't be bothered to learn english but have no problem demanding that americans learn spanish.
