>ah can I find an artist to be part of a duo I will write for gibes I promise
If this person posted their work I may have actually been interested

Since most indie graphic novel's successes are based on advertising, how do you successfully advertise your webcomic?

...

it is kind of sad how even discussing partnerships immediately turns into presumptuous anger

I don't care about that. It's just every time an artist comes in here asking for a writer no one takes then seriously and laughs at them. And then when a "writer" comes in they get shamed because they don't even have a story to tell

it used to be we got a lot of writers wanting to collab, very few artists wanting to, nobody bitching at anybody about it, but also nobody ever hooking up because the two were never here at the same time.

Add the webcomic link on social media, if you start a facebook page you can pay for ads, seven dollars to run an ad to run for seven days in your state.

I also and a shitload of tags on all my artwork on instagram, which gets people to click on your account and see the webcomic link right there

Did I ever post this? This is my voting incentive for Laserwing

topwebcomics.com/vote/21781

It's just a full design for a random backgrounder but I liked it

background characters can often be the best characters. I dig the yak horns and the feet thumbs. always love me some feet thumbs

bump

i'm comic as fast as I can

And now for a new HYW challenge!

>MAIN THEME: Ink Adventures
>SECONDARY THEME: (choose one to play around alongside the main theme!)
-Tits
-Brewing
-Theatricality
>DEADLINE: October 15

Remember that you can play with the theme as you see fit, we want to see how creative you can get!

is tracing and making minor changes OK?

it's okay for practice. after you do that, try redrawing it again
then compare your redraw to the original again, overlay.. see what you did differently.. it'll help

nobody has time for that, we have comics to put out.

I should probably finish inking the whole thing before I put color but this way my brain gets to decide on the mood of the scene beforehand.

What this user said It's ok for practice, after some time you may get bold enough to begin with the redrawing first and with practice you will be able to see reference pics and draw from them without worrying about feeling like cheating.

that's like saying you don't have time to leave your foot on the accelerator, you've got places to drive to. if you wanna get faster, that's how you do it. sometimes. it depends. actually I've gotten a lot slower as I've put more work in and gotten better, but still.

I do that once in a while, if a scene really needs to get composed just right, and is going to inform the rest of the panels' composition or something.

Yeah who says it can't work?

I wish I could do that actually. Sadly my pulse is shit and if I add colors first the lineart gets a bit harder to do.

You can do it.

If you have trouble making decent lines try "ghosting" them beforehand. That means get your hand to draw the line before putting the ink or pencil on the paper. Just try to do it in a single confident motion, you don't need a good pulse to do it. Practice making straight lines without a ruler on paper, then shapes, get your brain used to it.

How can you tell a story by tracing and making minor changes? I mean, I get it if you draw in a realistic style already and work for Marvel or DC and you trace some porn scenes and shit every now and then to make your deadlines, but for a webcomic? How is that helping in any way? One panel you have a highly realistic traced figure and the other they turn into South Park characters?

it's a step above spritecomics
and those of us who draw by hand can't legitimately claim our art isn't just as inconsistent as what you describe

>One panel you have a highly realistic traced figure and the other they turn into South Park characters?

That works wonders on comedy at least

what a dead thread

it is late at night and i trying to draw as fast as i can

oops

Here's this week's Princes of Dawn up at Capeworldcomics.com.

What you think thread?

do comic industries look for new writers and artists or do they wait for them to come to them?

also how much money do you guys make on your web comics?

i want to work on comics but also want stable income

This isn't that kind of profession.

This is the kind of profession where you have door after door slam shut in your face in the hopes of getting just a foot in.

Think of it this way. Before TMNT (and while producing TMNT) Eastman and Laird washed dishes.

If you want to do comics expect to wash a whole lot of dishes.

Here's my Inktober for the day. The lines are traditional but I did digital grays. These two characters are Nova and Peri, I may use them someday for a comic, we'll see.

We're just waiting for bones to return desu. His are the only good comics posted in /HYW/.

Bones that guy that does the goth girl comics? What's the point of that stuff anyway? Like Capeworld's caveman superhero stuff has a point. There's a story there. The same goes for that guy that posted the webcomic about a frog knight.

What's the deal with the goth girls?

R8 and h8

please tell me which jokes are funny

enjoy!

showed this to my Sup Forums friend. he

didnt like it (sorry. auto post)

...

well, he didnt react to it. just said it was weird

...

...

under construction

another one in pencil

Goth girls are cute and funny. If you need any more of a "point" than that, you're a pretentious jackass hipster queer.

just slice of life comedy. not every comic needs to be story driven to be enjoyable

If they're your own photos, or you collage together many photos then it's fine in my opinion (perhaps you take a photo of your bedroom, but cut out and add a sofa you found in a furniture catalog) . But I would only do it for backgrounds and avoid using random stock images you find on google images.

how old are you user, just curious i'm not bullying

Trolling

i'm 18. never learned art properly and just copied other drawings that seemed easy enough.

i am trying to make the comic [s4s]-like. kinda like a childish-playful style

Absolutely this. Also the cock joke in the last comic was top tier.

Try studying the layout of other books you like and how panels flow. Consider if you need more/less panels to explain something and pay attention to the sense of direction you give your reader.

>tfw gaining slight confidence in own drawing abilities

I really should practice more, though. I should especially practicing drawing foxes, perspective stuff and also work on my hatching skills.

i like that title

This looks really nice! Your lineweight is good and the wood grain is well done.

I'm glad you're still around. You don't have to keep posting the whole thing though. One good idea if you'd still like to show everyone your whole thing is to quickly put it on imgur (they will group images together in one long readable thing)

I knew you had it in you

i am trying to get as much critique as possible. currently updating old pages so it looks less insulting to the readers

finished

ah i see
i'd say keep doing you but don't be afraid to improve your work

a word of advice to fellow writers

ooh, it seems like lately it's comic-finishing season. I should watch this

You can tell these aren't bones by the coherent sentences. Honestly surprised people even read it, but then again it's leagues better than all his previous works.

If you think he isn't capable of changing up how he types, you don't kno-
Dammit it's you again. You got me.

oh it's not about finishing, it's about starting. less useful, but very interesting

Fuck off coldfusion, he's my favorite retard, I know his limitations and propensities. I hate that I even have to waste time replying to your retarded shit, but from his work you can tell the extent of his mastery of the english language. It's not as simple as making sure there are no grammatical errors in your sentences.

youtube.com/watch?v=yJNMkroM8zQ

so they're both about starting

Link to your comic? Love the artstyle.

...

...

How do you achieve this print comic look(CMYK tone?) in clip studio paint? Do i have to use photoshp?

there should be a cmyk mode, but what you mean is the tones, right?
also, my sides.

character-limit-blog.tumblr.com/

It is a bizarre comic with a little English errors.

...

Did you try this already?

I been messign with the tone selection but can't get the cmyk look as seen on

you need to overlap. See in the old days they only had the four colors, so they would mix them, and at different opacities. you can see how larry's hair had the red and yellow and blue parts slightly misaligned so they bleed a bit, because they had actual printing plates to use

How much have you improved?
are there any examples that you regret doing but you keep them around to see how far you've come?

>are there any examples that you regret doing but you keep them around to see how far you've come?

My whole deviantart account, which started back in 2008.

Good going back into the time machine sure gives back some embarrassing memories. Sure I did suck at drawing but it was also when I was more active at drawing and writing, sorta. I was so shit at writing I remember, I still don't understand how some people could read those fanfics with a straightface and then say they actually got feels over my sad endings.

I have never done a "redraw" exercise of before and after so take this unfair comparison as an example.

Now as for comic making, I guess I have gotten better too, at least on a technical sense and how to make the panels flow better instead of being a puzzle, and also lettering.
Sorry for all the Spanish.

I like left more desu

Thanks, you guys!

I think I'm just a bit more confident when using a physical medium.

They seem quite similar to me. They both have very empty backgrounds and very bland compositions.

Why thank you user.
Those were more comedy-centric days for me. I still like to crack jokes more, but alas 5 years ago my days were more simple. In all fairness I don't hate my old comics because most of them were just silly humor, but I would change the panel places there since the whole middle section is in disorder (the order should be the panels with the girl who went berserk first, then the big rectangle and the girl screaming "¡PERDERÉ MI COSECHA DE TOMATES" as the last panel, but now that I look at it is easy to read it in an incorrect order).
I was less shy about sharing my stuff back then even when I didn't have a lot of skill because I didn't care that much, so I guess there's also that in a way.

Well trips of truth there. I said I got better, not that I fixed all of my issues. I'm aware I can't into backgrounds yet and my compositions aren't groundbreaking nor anything, but I'm kinda working on it. Kinda.

more than I'm accused of, but less than I should have in this long
there are some cases where a scene would look so much better now, having improved, but few where i flat-out regret how crummy it looks.

ahem, I made a new page, check it out yall! Also heres the video of me making it: youtube.com/watch?v=teG0NQk2FJ0

While this takes forever just as with Paint it is actually really fun. I'm enjoying this Inktober.

there's a lovely poohesque quality to this

>Good friend had been supporting my comic since day 1
>Wanted a little cameo appearance, I ended up making a whole character based around her just because there's no way I would have continued the story without her supporting me
>She passed away in February of a fucking brain aneurysm of all things
>Perfectly healthy, early twenties, gone just like that
>Haven't really touched comic since then
>Also my dreams keep taunting me. She's alive there and then I wake up and that does not help one bit.
That's how my webcomic is going.

Well, I feel a little better now about how many times that happened to me but with "lost interest" in place of "dying"
finish the comic, dude. and for god's sake don't Bridge to Terebithia that shit.

>Roastie dying
And nothing of value was lost

/r9k/ pls
That's real rough user, my friend died about a year ago so I know what you mean. Try picking the comic back up again, maybe use it as a way to express how you feel, that might help you get a bit better

That sucks. I wish you all the best, user. Time will not make the past come back but it will teach you to get back on track.

My own comic was a present for my partner once and she is a character in the comic. After the breakup I couldn't possibly continue the comic because it just felt not right. But a lot of my friends were fans of the comic and continuously bugged me about and I started again and now I'm doing my comic regularly. Life has its ways.

>After the breakup
So she was getting BLACKED while you were drawing the comic?
