Mike is reminded of Lucy which makes him sad so he tries to reach out to Sandy but she isn't there so he becomes despondent.

It's a repeat of what's gone before but at least it makes sense, unlike a lot of what we've seen recently.

The signs are there in ch. 95 but I think people didn't notice at the time because they were glad something was happening. Plus Lucy appeared to have changed while she was away and that was intriguing. This promise has since been flushed down the drain.
