PUNISHER STORYTIME
All this year I'll be storytiming Punisher comics. Most of them will be from the pre-Ennis era, but there should be some Ennis era material at some point as well. Expect at least 1 storytime per week.
Whenever The Punisher teamed-up with other superheroes back in the 80s and 90s it was usually in other characters' books or in miniseries/one-shots specifically dedicated to the team-up. On the occasion that he had a team-up in his own ongoings it was almost always in the pages of The Punisher War Journal. That series saw everyone from Spider-Man, Black Widow, Wolverine, Daredevil, and multiple appearances of Ghost Rider. In contrast, Vanilla only had Luke Cage one time (and I guess there was also The Tarantula if you want to count him, but that's kind of borderline) and a lone run-in with Daredevil that wasn't even technically a team-up.
But in his third ongoing, The Punisher War Zone, Marvel largely ignored the rest of the Marvel Universe. This was intentional, and they even said so in the letters pages on more than one occasion. The lone exception to this was a team-up with Wolverine, and even THAT only occurred in one single issue out of a three issue story arc.
The arc in question, which we'll be reading today, was written by the team of Abnett & Lanning, who also did a run on The Punisher's main series (which has been storytimed), a fill-in arc on the same book (which has also been storytimed), the War Zone arc immediately before this (also been storytimed), and some other odds and ends (that haven't been storytimed [yet]). The art is by Hugh Haynes, who by this point in time was something of a staple on the various Punisher ongoings.
On top of that it features some spectacular covers by Michael Golden, plus the debut of a brand new character (read it to find out who!).
