What happened to TVTropes...

What happened to TVTropes? I remember when it used to be hugely popular but now everyone has been dead silent about it even though it still has an active userbase.

OCD X autism = never a good outcome

It allowed people to add in their own fanfiction and they started pulling new tropes out of their ass that make no sense or should not be counted as tropes in the first place. As a result the quality of every article went down and its now a shithole infested with fanfiction-writing fat tumblr girls.

It getting popular ruined it because now instead of just a dedicated group of enthusiasts curating and writing the articles, every dumbfuck teenager and college kid started using it as a place to show off their epic sharp wit.

People blame the new "no fun allowed" iron fisted moderation but I'd much prefer a tight leash on the quality than just letting stupid kids go wild turning every article into a dumping ground for their in-jokes and headcanon full of trash from idiots unable to even understand what the articles are about.

Either way, the site is nothing but a bombed-out shell of its former self now, only useful to go back and see what once was.

>troper tales

Have been deleted like five years ago, 'cause even for that place there's such a thing as too much autism

Oh boy

This troper...

That site has a hell of a boner for all things Negima. Even I think it's a bit much.

It's still pretty fun, just fucking around at work or at 1:00 in the morning, hitting the random buttons and reading shit.

You describing TVTropes or Sup Forums?

>iron fisted moderation

Literally the only thing about Negima that I've ever seen was a series of hentai doujins that I used to fap to a lot. I've never seen anything official from it so as far as I'm concerned it's just a series of hentai manga.

So Sup Forums then?

when will we become one? when will we be TVchan?

You must be new to the internet if you think that Sup Forums has "iron fisted moderation". It's one of the most lightly-moderated active communities on the world wide web.

Well, every community gets worse as it gets popular, that's just the natural course for communities because more people = more depersonalization.

TVTropes had a community that got shitty, yes, but they were also actually creating something. In the case of TVTropes, the audience became so big that they essentially took over from the creators. It's like if a TV show started just filming scripts sent in by the viewers instead of by the show writers.

You're not wrong per se, but technically there was a bit of plot thrown in. I honestly only liked the slice of life and haremshit. When it became about the Magical World plot, I really stopped caring. I have 28 volumes of it in the manga and about a few DVDs of the mediocre anime. Yeah, it was just a one hit wonder. It left a crater in me though.

I know what hentai you're talking about. It's the one in the banner, right? That one looks hot.

Yeah yeah yeah, autism cringe, whatever. That entire section was deleted years ago people, find a new thing.

I do still use it as some kind of superwikia that isn't tied to just one series like most other wikias.

I only use this site when I want to find more Sup Forums and Sup Forums material with my fetish in it. I wish individual comic issue recaps on there got updated more.

I also use it when I want to find more characters that match a certain character type.

I've used it to get recommendations multiple times, either to find indie shit that I sometimes end up enjoying or tremendously awful shit to watch with friends.

youtube.com/playlist?list=PL65885E08173B69BB

Sup Forums has a ton of rules but almost none of them are enforced and the ones that are enforced are so easy to avoid that you really do have to try to get banned here unless you're dealing with a mod who's out of hotpockets.

SJ entryists from Something Awful. Not even kidding.

...

I think so. The author was Gust and he made a shitload of them. Lots of good loads blown to those in my late teen years.

American moralism happened.
Everything related to sex got deleted.

>some of the articles they had on hentai/porn were more well written than articles on non-porn
wew

So what you're saying is that outside of America its perfectly okay to be a degenerate that fetishizes rape and sex with children?

Gonna go against the hate here, and say that it's extremely useful. Even with all the autism, which I personally just find to be a humorous bonus.

>muh children
In France and Germany you can have billboards with naked bodies in broad daylight for everyone to see and no one bats an eye.
The biggest conservative tabloid in Germany uses naked women on page 1 or 3 to gain more readers.

That has nothing to do with what I said. The tropes that were deleted were mostly related to rape and lolicon.

TVtropes has always been horrible if you want to learn actual literary criticism or good writing practices.

When has anyone ever suggested it is in any way meant for either of those?

I did, in Though it's a statement, not a mere suggestion.

>removing rape trope pages

This is wrong.

So what you're saying is that inside America fictional rape is actual rape? Wow, feminism has come a long way.

If you think the removal of loli and rape tropes somehow ruined the site over shit like how they label anything that's not completely predictable as a Deconstruction, maybe you're priorities are in the wrong order

The nightmare fuel pages lead me to believe that literally everything is scary to TVTropes users.

I've been on a long search to find the stupidest NIghtmare Fuel page on the site. This is my current top runner:

tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/NightmareFuel/AtopTheFourthWall

>Open a trope page
>Longest entry is the MLP section

Out of curiosity, I checked the Tear Jerker page for that, and

>At the end of the Silent Hill Dead/Alive review, we learn the origins of the Magic Gun. It is made of the soul of a tortured little girl. A girl tortured by her parents to revive an ancient god. Upon learning of this, and how he has been using the Gun for so long, an already weakened Linkara is mind-raped to the point of believing that he was the girl's father and tries to shoot himself with the Gun. He only survives because the girl's spirit in the Gun sees he's worth saving, and doesn't shoot.

What the absolute fuck?

I'm glad skit-based "review" shows are starting to die off, this shit is terrible

I'm sure the community section is terrible, but I browse the encyclopedia a lot. Sure, fans of a certain work will over-interpret it, but that shit happens on Sup Forums, Sup Forums, and Sup Forums just as much. They're just an easy target

These. Also the wiki software they use is unintuitive as fuck, literally every other wiki is easier to use

Using all those writing skills he honed doing Lightbringer, I see.

Forget the software, HOW THE FUCK IS TV TROPES STILL UP AT ALL!? They changed their license without obtaining permission first, and don't keep full page contribution histories!

Where the fuck are the DMCAs?

It's useful for when you can't quite remember which episode some fetishy shit was in and you don't really want to associate yourself with wikifeet.

It doesn't take much for one to lead to the other. There are weebs who start out with loli shit and end up as actual child molesters.

t. troper tales pro

'This troper' happened and everyone became embarrassed to be associated with the site, and even after they cleaned that shit up no one really talked about it any more.

>removing the page to Kodomo no Jikan
>leaving some of the references and citations to Kodomo no Jikan in the trope pages

You can't have your loli cake and eat it, too.

But that's wrong...you know the rest.

explain?

It explains itself:
youtube.com/watch?v=hEJQqUN2buE

It's just a fad that went away

I am user there, but I only edit obscure pages that nobody cares about and I don't interact with anyone in the forums. They are on the same level as NeoGAF as how big of a circle jerk it is and easy to get banned for saying the wrong thing like people that abused Zamii070's were wrong.

I've always hated it. The tropes aren't tropes and everything thinks they're so clever for 'discovering' them when it's just nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking.

...

>tfw the fanfic recs section for a lot of the shows I like are either sparsely populated, hardly ever updated, nonexistent, or full of shit being shilled by people who are clearly associates of the author sugarcoating their steaming turd of a story.

They removed all of the original autism in favor bland heavily moderated pages. No Japanese or injokes allowed. All of the insanity on companion wikis so it's off the main page.

>t. hack writer not wanting others to discover his lack of talent

If you really belive that you can learn stuff like this from internet website you should quit internet until you be mature enough.

I did some voices in a few of the later videos in this series. I don't remember which ones because it's been several years.

I still say site itself is fine. There is alot of shit stuff but thats what happen if you allow every user to edit page, some less obscure pages may not have fixed stupid stuff and more subjective ones are flooded with some nonsense but those usally just for sake of gushing about stuff somebody like or complaining about disliked things , you can ignore those pages.
Forum is mostly garbage to be avoided.
Worse stuff like Troper Tales or Fetish Fuel were purged years ago.

Rest of site is fine unless you are to autistic in some way about it.

I never really liked TVTropes, but for awhile it was where all the tumblrites and fedoras congregated. But then said groups ended up migrating to tumblr and reddit, probably sometime after the mods (wisely) took down 'troper tales.' It still pisses me off MLP fanfiction get's three whole fucking pages of tropes, while the epic of Gilglamesh only has one short one. And what in the hell is the 'Whateley Academy'?

This is seriously the worst shit. That, and the fact that you have to make an account to use display options like night vision.

>It still pisses me off MLP fanfiction get's three whole fucking pages of tropes, while the epic of Gilglamesh only has one short one.

Here's an idea: sign up and edit the page and add trope entries to the Epic of Gilgamesh!

To be honest though, I frankly feel EoG is fine and Pony is just overbloated like many series where they're excessively prone to throwing on tropes left and right.

I mean, would the Epic of Gilgamesh need an entry for "Estrogen Brigaid Bait" because Gilgamesh is described as the the most handsome and beautiful man in the world rivaled only by Enkidu?

Or "Bleached White Underpants" for adaptions of the epic where instead of fucking Enkidu for seven whole days she instead actually teaches him how to live in civilized society?

It doesn't make you clever to write an entire page on "person enters room and is surprised" no matter how many times people enter rooms and are surprised in media.

Further tropes aren't flaws and your response is just another reason TVtropes has always sucked.

what is this?

Sometimes when I want a summary of some movie or tv show I just go on TVtropes because wikipedia is sometimes too brief. It's not that bad when you just stick to the main page and don't go on the stupid ones.

fanfic doesn't draw the best crowds

Personally, the last bit of potential TV Tropes had died when autists became obsessed with non-literal trope names and started mandating that every trope name be a perfect description of what it is.
>sacrificed basic skill for awesome training
>accidentally accurate becomes accidentally correct writing
>spoony bard becomes quirky bard
>walk it off becomes regenerating health
>dressed to kill becomes badass in a nice suit
>the unfunny becomes the comically serious

>"person enters room and is surprised" no matter how many times people enter rooms and are surprised in media.
TV Tropes literally cautions tropers AGAINST creating those types of tropes, which you would have known if you actually read the site. See tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Administrivia/PeopleSitOnChairs

>Further tropes aren't flaws
No, but bad writing is a flaw. Like your writing.

Don't forget the autistic love the guy who made that Trope page has for him and makes the shitty comic seem deep and substantial.

>TV Tropes literally cautions tropers AGAINST creating those types of tropes
To a limited effect. They've still got shit like From Nobody To Nightmare.

Awesome, there are so many tropes in desperate need of renaming.

Oh, and do fuck off.

You forgot this exists?
youtube.com/watch?v=4zMFOtFCuc0

same senpai. I go to a movies page after I finish watching one

>Slap in the face
>It's a slap in the face
>being a slap in the face
>slap in the face
>like a slap in the face

It's in the sims nightmarefuel page

>The Lancer

>Go to page for a trope
>A good amount of the "examples" are subversions
>Some more are aversions

Why even have a site about tropes when most of the time the pages give examples of how something isn't that trope?

>What happened to TVTropes?
Online community once open to just a few got overrun with people with zero filters or guidance and it turned to cringe.

You know, just like Sup Forums.

A couple of the mods were removed for "collecting illegal content" from other users.

>find a new thing

That's kind of besides the point. When discussing what happened with the "decline" of TVtropes, you'd have to mention troper tales at some point. It's certainly something that drove off a ton of people.

that's something that happened at tvt, not what happened to it
The users ruined the site, but the mods going puritanical only helped a bit.

Here's the bottom line:
Not everything is a trope or needs a formal description as one. The site's origin was cancerous Joss Whedon fans smitten by self-aware cute nicknames like "the woobie" who felt the whole of entertainment throughout history should have a taxonomy without rule or reason, coupled with a massive circlejerk of contributors encouraged to talk about themselves for no good reason whatsoever.

All the worst parts of wikipedia without any redeeming qualities. And no, aspiring writers who mined it came up with pyrite, not gold.

I will never let you forget your retardation.
youtube.com/watch?v=9E_8UsjoryQ

Excessive use of "Badass"

because to most people its less about creating a factual document about whatever and more a game to see which fandom can stuff as many buzzwords on their shows page as they possibly can.

>This is page #2 that you have viewed
way better than blocking the first view, considering most of the time people just share links to one specific article rather than a site

also, suding ublocko, didn't get that notice

(Link to a trope) (Link to the same trope but slanted) (Link to the same trope but not slanted)

That's more of a formatting issue, iirc.

Don't worry keep at it one day your terrible oc nonsense will be picked up for a cartoon!

>2 or 3 posters get butthurt over a trope
>Suddenly considered flamebait

The only way you'd notice that is if you were one of the autists trying to find as many hidden links as possible. Or me.

>Your mileage may vary

>moff's law
