I'd almost believe them lifting more mass into LEO than is believable in a realistic time-frame wasn't a plot hole, except a central caveat of the film is the "gravity problem", ie achieving mass-less lift-off capability to put the fuckhuge concrete centrifuge into orbit. Clearly they did not have enough propellant on Earth to do this, so their gambit is to rely on some old fuck rewriting the rules of physics in case the ship returns with news of no viable planets beyond the wormhole.
