I've watched the series like 4 times, It just doesn't work for me, and I can tell it was definitely something Anno didn't want. It feels like something he was forced to have to be more appealing to kids.
One of the only times a gay plot was written pretty well. Flint falls in love with the mans conviction and ideals, then eventually the man himself rather than a personality or a body.
Not a fan of gay shit shoved down my throat, but I thought this was written and played out rather interestingly.
I enjoyed the show as a whole.

Yeah after I got into the show I saw what they were going for and how they might've thought it was appropriate, but when I first saw it I was really put off. If I hadn't specifically gone and watched it because of all the hype and instead just caught it on TV I easily might have dismissed it and changed the channel.
