This is a well known problem with far right or populist leaders. They come to power talking about how bad things are, but very rarely manage to implement policy which actually fixes it, resulting in most populist parties and leaders serving only one or two terms.
They also fail, while in power, to lay successful grassroots organisational structures, meaning they don't maintain electoral enthusiasm. Liga Nord in Italy changed that and other far right/populist parties have taken notice and are taking steps to change.
As well as this they must battle against "cordon sanitaire" or other mainstream parties blocking them from electoral success by banding together (France's Front Nationale got fucked like this last election)
So basically if Trump wins, he MUST do what he promised and it MUST be successful or else he'll not last a second election, and will set back the right in America.

After their share of the vote fell from 40% to 2.9% between 1997-2006 they subtly shifted away from dumbass stunts towards a mature party. They shifted their scapegoating away from Southern Italy and focused on the EU instead and took on an anti-islamic policy. This was as simple as reading the currents of the day.
While they did this they also tended to their support vase to win back the trust they had lost by promising too much and delivering too little. By focusing on smaller, local reform rather than grandiose schemes doomed to fail the cultivated trust and support among rural communities.
The lessons we learned from their spectacular collapse and revival:
Political stunts get you noticed but you must have workable policy to keep voter support
Once you have voter support you must put party structures in place to keep it. Things like doorknockers and phone bank operators.
Focus on the local issues and you win trust.
This is why we see AfD and Golden Dawn doing free food, and community support. The radical left think protests and speeches are enough to win support because they're stuck in the "only do stunts" mindset of the radical right in the 90s. It's also part of why Europe is shifting right. While social student groups march and yell, far eight groups actually are helping their communities and building trust and support.
