There's many reason why their doing this. The primary instigator is Bendis, for whatever fucking reason. Marvel lets bendis does what ever he wants, makes black spider-man (whose conveniently better than spider-man), make irongirl (whose smarter than tony is). Made Iceman gay for bronie points and no one internally fought against it despite is ignores his back story. But with Riri and Miles, its a lot more dishonest. He created legacy characters for Marvel biggest hero and the MCU's biggest character. Should the MCU expand and make said legacy character Bendis gets to reap the rewards.
Beyond that we have Kamala, whose probably will survives the inevitable status quo shift. Silk, whose already been forgotten, Robbie and Sam whom Marvel treats like a red headed step child. America who will most likely be forgotten due to how ass her comic is and played no role in the last two big marvel events.

It's because the decision was just fucking baffling. It doesn't compliment the story at all, and if anything actively demolishes any sympathy that may've been gained for Medusa by repeating yet another "Medusa makes out with a guy the minute Black Bolt isn't within 5 feet of her" story that everyone thought Marvel got over after the end of IvX.

Someone at Marvel thinks that comic books are like a soap opera. This is happening in all of their books now. Instead of writing actual drama or shows of character and resilience against forces beyond their control; they instead act like teenagers who change their mind at the drop of a hat and have zero composure against any kind of threat.
They basically want to write soap operas, and turn comic books into a miniature soap opera where relationships are thrown out the window every book so the readers have to get the new book to see what the new hot 'pairing' is. This is why most relationships in all of their books have been relentlessly shit on and boyfriends/girlfriends have been sent away for almost every superhero.

Everyone knows the reason, and it's his lucrative as fuck contract with Marvel as an exclusive that will have him set for life with creator payouts as long as his OCs keep getting used. Why else do you think he pushes Miles as hard as he does and actively wants him to replace Peter? Why else would he have Riri taking over for Iron Man when both Lila Rhodes or Toni Ho would make more sense?

Let's be real here; comic books are soap operas. Relationship drama and character conflict has been a thing at least as far back as Claremont's X-Men run. The big issue is that Marvel seem to think they can just continuously string their readers in to reading their books through nothing more than simple hate-buying. They seem to be incapable or unwilling to recognize that there is a breaking point where readers will simply burn out and drop your stuff out of sheer apathy.
This is why Secret Empire failed dismally, this is why Marvel's sales are currently in the gutter, this is why Amazing Spider-Man is struggling to sell more than 50k when two years ago it was one of their flagship books (and from what I saw in the latest issue, Slott literally does not give a shit), and this is what's gonna kill them if they don't course correct soon.

The Ultimate Universe was ending and he was basically given carte blanche to do whatever he wanted, regardless of how nonsensical it was, because everything would be destroyed before he had to explain it. It was just base ego stroking, nothing more.
