That scene is hard to watch

This movie was really painful to watch, but the full weight of it didn't hit me until later. After watching it I kept wondering why everyone seemed to forgive him so easily. Then I started thinking about all the times I've fucked up in life and my friends and family have forgiven me, no questions asked. I started thinking about all the pain I've caused them and it made me want to be a better person so they would never have to feel that again, at least not because of me.

English may not be your first language, so I can try to explain this a little more. When someone says something is "hard to watch" it implies it evoked feelings the person didn't like. These feelings can either arise from the film/acting being really bad, or the subject matter being particularly painful (even if was acted expertly). So the statement isn't necessarily a complaint. I'm glad the movie didn't have a "happy" ending, but I think it really would have made more sense if he killed himself at the end. He let his three children, all toddlers, burn alive because he was too drunk to remember to take care of the fireplace. Granted he did try to kill himself in the police station, but he never tried again afterwards? Just sort of became a shut in?

It's a great movie, and again I'm glad it doesn't end with him just getting over it, but I feel like almost anyone in his position would have attempted suicide multiple times and eventually succeeded.

I mean I get why you would say that but joke's on you guys I've never once had a girlfriend so it doesn't get to me in the same way.
