Kodi and Plex are apples and Oranges. Both are great for your individual needs, but they can't really be compared due to their different requirements/needs.

plex is a little different than kodi, as it's more designed for remote streaming and whatnot. it's great to be able to download shit, have plex process it, and then stream it to my phone/laptop from my media server while i'm on a train or something. kodi can't do that.

There's a client for Kodi that is an addon, but you still need a Plex server to connect to. It's not really for the 99% of Kodi virgins that just stream everything but rather for the PC chads who download 4K HDR Blu-ray remuxes and have 100TB of storage.

There is nothing illegal or even grey about kodi. Its the third party addons that are where the 'problem' lies and even then its not even the addons that host the content and instead are just web scrapers that compile streams that are hosted elsewhere by online index's such as putlocker. Why would the kodi devs be in trouble unless they themselves develop said third party addons on the side?

Try Leonflix for streaming or Stremio for torrent streaming.

Its basically the exact same thing as streaming sites like popcorntime or solarmovies without the malware and even then the legality surrounding those are a massive grey area
