Movie was meh
Fight scenes were the only good thing about it

The moral of the Iliad?
>The Thessalonian you're fighting, he's the biggest man I've ever seen. I wouldn't want to fight him.
>That is why no one will remember your name.

The book had a lot of moral stories. The movie didn't have any.

Never saw the movie
But the books said that the Greeks were more beautiful (in appearance, actions, thoughts, etc) than the Trojans
So that's why they won

Beware Greeks bearing gifts.

Attached: lookingatyou.jpg (630x547, 32K)

don't look a gift horse in the mouth

Let your dumbass brother die and spare the lives of thousands

Or alternatively grab a bow and shoot the guy at your gates who keeps yelling HECTOR

The moral is there is nothing wrong with being a faggot because faggots make it till the end. Like upham in saving private Ryan

Attached: p-troy-orlando-bloom.jpg (300x301, 48K)

Faggots didn't exist in Greek times

To crush your enemies. See them driven before you. And to hear the lamentations of their women.

heh

eric bana is too pure for this world

orlando bloom sucks

Is that the actor with no eyes ears or tongue?

Fuck you, that character was probably one of the most grounded and well-made I've seen in a war film. Mostly because he's someone the audience can relate to, even with his flaws.

Let me guess, you thought the edgy Christian sniper was fucking badass

The moral of the Iliad is that death comes for all men, and we should be mindful of that.

:(

That Greeks loved killing one another over stupid shit because they had no self control, so it was better for them to cave in and embrace pointless killing.

>So that's why they won

No.

They won because it was Zeus plan. Simple as that.

Because Zeus loved the Greeks more because they were more beautiful.

greeks are the dindus

>this meme again
if you sucked dick you were an enormous faggot and no one would respect you

Don't do this Judeo-Christian shit here.
The Greek Gods didn't give a shit about you until you proved yourself worthy. There was no "I created you so I love you" shit.
Just "What are you to me"

Also, Zeus remained Neutral.

Yeah, if you SUCKED dick as a grown man.
But if you sucked dick as teen, it's all good.
Or if you had your dick sucked by a teen. Or really anyone.

It was about submission/supremacy. Not strict rules.
Everyone wants their dick sucked. Didn't matter who by. Hell, getting your dick sucked by a woman was the least prestigious way to get your dick sucked. Who cares about a woman's place in society?

Homosexuality was actually preferred in Spartan military society.

Sucking dicks doesn't make you gay.

>Upham
>A Faggot
"Dude, let's make a rear echelon guy tag along with us special forces people!"

>Homosexuality was actually preferred in Spartan military society.
It's complicated. A Spartan citizen was expected to have a wife. And to have children by that wife.
But getting your rocks off with your battle brothers, well that just makes your army stronger.

And men/men sex was intercrural. Between the thighs. Probably because enemas haven't been invented yet

I literally said there is nothing wrong with being a faggot

that's it's boring cracker shit?

Attached: Troy Fall of a City.webm (320x180, 2.26M)

If some hot headed faggot named achillies comes to your city walls and challenges your best warrior, shot his ass with the literal hundreds of archers staring at him or some boyfucking fag named odyssus will throw your baby into a fire

So you didn't read the Illiad?

>Zeus remained neutral

He didn't read the Illiad guys.

>And men/men sex was intercrural. Between the thighs.
Somehow this seems even gayer.

wtf

He was, you Wikipedia reading faggot.
Do you think there'd even be a war if He took sides?
Hera and Athena took the Greeks.
Ares and Apollo took the Trojans.

This. This movie really highlighted why having kings/generals fight "honorably" was stupid as fuck, and also why having wars be decided by a fight between two champions/heroes was also stupid

The Gods had their preferences. Some, like Apollo, loved Hector, some others, like Poseidon, wished the Achaeans to win.

There are instances in which Zeus gives the victory in battles to the Trojans, in fact, most of the book is the Trojans constantly pushing the Achaeans back to their ships: until the death of Patroclus occurs, triggering Achilles anger.

Men on both sides of the conflict are described to be exceptional and beautiful.

They tell you that modern warfare is nuclear warfare. But really it is a chemical war. And it is a secret, ongoing conflict.

t. niggers

dont get plane in the background of your shot...

Do you have low attention span by any chance or memory problems?

There are several instances in which Zeus willingly gives the victory to the Trojans.

>Do you think there'd eve be a war if He took sides?

Poseidon took the Achaean side. There was still a war.

Please do as I told you last time and: less Sup Forums, more studying.

But that wasn't beautiful
Greek culture venerated Aristeia.
Beauty in battle. The best moment of your life

Where is that being shot by an arrow?
Achilles life, being killed by an arrow, is meant to be tragic, not pragmatic.

Remember that the Trojans only lost due to Poseidon's interference.

That you cannot escape your calling.

achilles had to choose between immortality and death or mortality and life.

the greeks were always the aggressors in the conflict between west and east

what is the beauty of literally throwing a baby into a fire and raping women?

we wuz greeks n shiet

ur gay lol

>when you post something and realize how retarded it was only after the fact
what i mean is he had to choose death and immortality or life and obscurity

Everything?
You're applying modern standards to ancient beliefs.

So it's subjective? How is shotting arrows accurately and dispatching targets without risk not beautiful but watching babies burn alive and giving into your hedonistic desires to rape women beautiful to the greeks? Were they retards?

You can you be so fucking moral when you're eating MacDonalds on a computer built by Chinese slaves and powered by Saudi slaves

>Remember that the Trojans only lost due to Poseidon's interference.
That's a fair point I think

I mean you have the option of beheading a baby with a knife or setting it on fire and watching it writhe in flames. Stupid fucking greeks take honor in 1v1s like CoDkiddies but don't give a fuck about sparing innocent life. Degenerate as fuck

Zeus fucking hated humans and wanted to wipe them out entirely. the only god that even gave a shit about them was the Titan Prometheus who dared to give them free will which pissed Zeus off even more because humans could act outside of Zeus's plan or even deign to become gods themselves and contest Zeus's power whereas Prometheus valued the potential for humans to become better which in itself added an interesting new aspect of unpredictability to the music of life (sort of like adding randomization to a video game instead of playing the same plot over and over again).

Attached: Thomas Cole (Prometheus Bound).jpg (1280x839, 163K)

it wasn't innocent life for them. Fucking dumb faggot. Stop thinking with your cucked judeo christian soymentality

Any actual good adaptations? The horrible violence, the petty ego shit, the gods?

Doesnt matter if its a cartoon or 40s movie or 30s germany movie or some greek tv adaptation

Attached: shapiro.jpg (329x491, 33K)

that's not the point faggot. if they cared about honor and shit they should dispatch babies as quickly as possible instead of literally tossing them into a fire. I guess I'll give them a pass on raping women because war is hell and they are all cunts anyway but burning babies alive is just edgy as fuck

Except at the very start of the movie Achilles and his opponant basically volunteer to save thousands of lives by having their duel.

troy is good and has all of it except the gods (useless boring shit imho)

>useless boring shit imho
you're a gay retard and your denial of divinity will cost you

Attached: charlton-heston-as-moses-the-ten-commandments-1956-paramount1.jpg (781x441, 63K)

ok cuckboy

It's pretty good.
Doesn't have the Gods descending and making petty argument though
That happened a lot in the Illiad

Honestly, if you want a fun retelling of the story, read Illium/Olympos by Dan Simmons

>I'll give them a pass on raping women because war is hell and they are all cunts anyway
shut the fuck up

A wrong point.

Poseidon's part only encouraged more direct interference by the Gods into the fight.

It all culminated when Zeus told them to fuck off and chill.

Anons point is a true as saying that it was due to Athena that the achaeans managed to pull the Trojan Horse strategy successfully by granting the warriors inside strength to keep them quiet while Helen screamed their names (as read in the Odyssey) while they were in the Horse.

Yet you wont see anybody claim that it was due to her that they were victorious, because its as dumb as saying that it was due to Poseidons intervention that they won.

If they can make gods interesting visually it would be worth it but story telling wise, unless there is actual conflict with the gods that has consequences on themselves instead of just saying "fuck this human, he dead nao" it wouldn't work because we don't believe these gods, we know it would just be the author pulling this shit

>lemme remake this into some game of thrones bullshit

Attached: disgust2.jpg (1440x962, 138K)

is this bait

Attached: 1518128247997.jpg (653x590, 93K)

Literally everyone says that the Greeks won because of Athena
That's a major reason why the Athenians were like "Yeah, we the best city, niggers"

No, the moral of the book is that civilization is always at the mercy of those that would plunder it for their own gain, material or immaterial.

The Achaeans were brutish, war-like, and uncivilized but ultimately prevail because all of the splendor of the Trojans means nothing in a fight for survival. The Trojans are decimated, their women raped, their children murdered or thrown into slavery, for no other reason than they lack the ability to defeat Achilles, whom represents the primal human desire for glory at any cost to himself or anyone else. He is cares for Patroclus but feels the remorse of his death not through the absence of a friend but through the dishonoring of his own name via proxy. Achilles cares for his own honor and glory through conquest above all else.

The only satisfaction the Trojans are allowed is the knowledge that, inevitably, the same fate will befall the Achaeans. Achilles will inevitably die and while his name will be remembered, he himself will go to Hades and suffer eternity with all the rest of them. And in Hades, not even Achilles will feel any glory, for there is nothing to be felt in death.

I watched the movie twice to completion and still don't see everyone's problems with it. I think it's really good.

Nice modernist interpretation.
Ultimately wrong since both the Trojans and the Achaeans were of the same culture.
You're doing some 18th century "We ought to conquer savages" shit.

Achilles didn't represent "primal desire for glory". He represented beauty and honour. You were supposed to be in awe of him

Anyone know the source of the footage of the play this guy is using?

youtube.com/watch?v=tmO_R2patgE

(it's a really worthwhile video too)

Fucking Disney Hercules greek god character designs ruined greek mythology for me. Whenever I hear "apollo" I think of a little blue faggot flying around.

apparently zero people in this thread have read the iliad or know anything of the context surrounding the myth
zeus allowed/destined for the trojan war to happen because his grandmother gaia (the earth) complained that there were too many people and the war would result in many deaths
troy was actually a favoured city of zeus and he had much love for priam and hector, however ultimately gave in to hera and athene's wish that the city be destroyed (because of their being snubbed by paris)

That women ruin everything

Attached: 1521248113003.jpg (768x1018, 193K)

And you would know some people pointed that out before you did: but fuck reading the thread right?

White thots destroy civilizations

Uneducated faggot detected.
Greek stories were not so regimented and canonized as the Jewish lore I'm sure YOU are familiar with.

There was never a ONE GOD that allowed shit in Greco-Roman myth. You're inserting Jew belief too much.

How am I saying anything about conquering savages? The Achaeans were not savages but certainly uncivilized compared to the Trojans.

As for Achilles, you are generalizing his qualities when they are very specific: beauty in combat, honor in war. The Greeks loved Achilles for his virility but they also loved the Trojans for their civility.

this. also paris was a selfish faggot and orlando bloom was the perfect casting choice

Bitches ain't Loyal

to avenge your gay lover and then die like a bitch to literally the worst character that ever lived

Family and honor doesn't mean shit in the end

You're getting that confused with the Romans. The ultimate sign of defeat was literally fucking someone in the mouth. It was looked down upon even when women did it back in Roman times.

It means nothing.
It means everything

>Zeus remained Neutral.

at the beginning of the war: more like Zeus went side to side depending on his mood that day

*tosses baby into fire*
MUH HONOR 1v1 ME FAGGOT

>reading books

Attached: 1484130128319.jpg (800x820, 149K)

pretty much this, look up 'arete' and also the distinction between 'kleos' and 'time'
wealth, life and comfort are transitory while glory/honour are eternal

and then archilous said: fuck that

One of the Saians (Thracian tribe) now delights in the shield I discarded
Unwillingly near a bush, for it was perfectly good,
But at least I got myself safely out. Why should I care for that shield?
Let it go. Some other time I'll find another no worse.

Baby should have more beautiful parents

greeks were niggers
trojans were national socialists
this was basically ww2 adapted for 2000 years ago

Are you supposed to disagree with that guy's statement?
Achilles throwing out his shield is about disregarding personal belonging.
Another shield can do just as good.
Nostalgia and affection towards items is stupid.
Buddhist, really, in meaning

Troy? more like soy

>fucks men in the ass
s-soy!

not really, shields were part of being a warrior and trowing it away meant disregarding honor: remember the spartan's saying: come back with it or on it

>wealth, life and comfort are transitory while glory/honour are eternal
wouldnt it make more sense that simply living on your feet instead of meek and scared knees you touch on eternity itself, on higher vahalla like experiences and trues (rather than simply "i'll be dead but someone might remember my name in a badly translated language several thousand years from now"?)

>Achilles didn't represent "primal desire for glory".
The poem literally opens with the wrath of Achilles. He's not supposed to be the epitome of beauty or honor.

>"Dude, let's make a rear echelon guy tag along with us special forces people!"
"Dude, lets take this soldier in this theater of war that was assigned to us, who has been trained and needs to be ready to both kill and have our back"

Spartans are like a 1000 years ahead of the Illiad mate
