ITT: biggest Oscar snubs for Best Animated Film

ITT: biggest Oscar snubs for Best Animated Film.

Pic very much related. This shit got robbed of a nomination for Best Animated Film and the Academy went in favor of giving Muh Dirty Bombs Best Picture instead of Pixar’s UP followed by giving the nominations for Best Animated Film this year to The Red Turtle and My Life As A Zucchini. FUCK. THEM.

you goddamn right, I’m still mad

>HURRRR MUH Sup Forums MEMES XDDDD
Kill yourself.

Big Hero 6 over Kaguya or Song of the Sea was a fucking robbery.

Didn't find a way

>over animu and Euro film
>not over HTTYD 2

>Sup Forums-tards still that no generic High School animu was better than Zootopia

What the fuck are you babbling about

I liked those two better. HTTYD2 was still better than BH6 though.

>the Academy went in favor of giving Muh Dirty Bombs
I don't think we're on the same page here OP.

>Ernest and Celestine
>The Wind Rises

Can't think of any more egregious, those made my blood boil, luckily I learned to know that the Oscars don't matter, at least when it comes to animation.

Lego Movie not even being nominated in 2014 despite being one of the funniest, smartest, most visually inventive movies of the year. Utter joke.

Fuck You, I liked it

wat dis?

When Marnie Was There

Jesus Christ, go back to Sup Forums weebs

You're all over the map faggot.

>Ernest and Celestine
>weeb

Proof that anti/a/ Sup Forums purists don't even watch cartoons.

Top 3 Ghibli movie for me, honestly, refreshing, cute and aside from the last 10~ minutes pretty flawless.

>all my replies connected a common theme
>thinks I was talking Ernest &Celestine and not The Wind Rises

>Wind Rises
>weeb

Proof that anti-Sup Forums Sup Forums purists not only do not watch cartoons but also are newfags that don't understand the words they are saying.

>calling ernest and celestine anime-shit

please don't tell me you're pretending to know cartoons for the sake of having people to talk to.

ehhhh

The Hurt Locker nabbed Best Picture instead of Pixar’s UP

Ratatouille and Persepolis were great mind you, but this was something special

This movie it's basically Robots with penguins.

Remember when Shia was smiling when this played during his movie marathon thing.

This as well.

The Academy has repeatedly demonstrated they don't give a shit about animation, viewing it as just a juvenile distraction rather than an actual medium for film. Those who vote on best animated feature film, don't bother watching the films at all.

Why don't foreign animated films get their own category?

>implying muh furry racism is better than a beautifully 2D animated romance with a nuanced yet deep love story that transcends time and space and can appeal to all ages

>The Hurt Locker better than UP
>The Red Turtle and Zucchini more deserving a nom than Your FUCKING Name

I never get an excuse to post this so I'm posting it.

See . We only get an animation category in the first place because of that one year where Beauty and the Beast was considered for best picture that made the academy so scared an animated film might steal a "real" award, they had to rewrite the rules and categorize animation in a separate ghetto.

I remember even academy members were pissed about this.

>everything that's not animated in usa is anime
and they say muricans aren't stupid

Are you saying that Wind Rises isn't weeb material? Are you sure you're not confusing it with something else?

No? Do you even know what weeb means, you retarded newfaggot?

Weeaboo. Aka that thing moot filtered in place of japanophile or some shit. Now often colloquially used to indicate a fan of anime. Anime films like studio ghibli's The Wind Rises.

>Now often colloquially used to indicate a fan of anime
So you don't know what the word means, great. Now go kill yourself.

It's a dumb PBF nonsense word. Quit pretending it's deeper than it is.

No, faggot, you are wrong. I can't believe newfags like you don't understand words with shit like Urban Dictionary spoonfeeding you like the retards you are.

Are you fucking kidding me? Up isn't even top five Pixar movie material let alone Best Picture material. Plus Hurt Locker was legitimately good.

...

LOL an obscure European stop-motion movie beat your BIGGEST-GROSSING-EVER anime for an Oscar nom.

t. Academy
Obscure fuckin' Chinese bullshit amirite?

The academy literally doesn’t give a fuck about animation, they only include it because they have to.

In their eyes it’s just some shit they have to watch with their grandkids a few times a year.

fuck, you weebs are cranky today. maybe go back to shitposting on Sup Forums

your posting on the wrong board Sup Forums is to your left.

well good, that means you've got good taste

Song of the Sea is Irish you cunt

Such bullshit

What does the academy have against anime anyway? Are the members still sore over Pearl Harbor?

Dunno what they got against Japan, but I heard that a large percentage of the academy is just made up of actors, and I think actors in general don't like any kind of animation because they think voice acting is acting on easymode and that therefore animation is a poor showcase for acting, which makes it a lesser medium since to them acting is the most important part of film. I even had a normie friend argue this point to me. I think I remember seeing a Zootopia interview that might've been connected to a "for your consideration" campaign where an animator kept insisting "see? the character drawings are just like me acting, only it's just in drawing form. it's just like acting, I swear," which kind of reinforced this suspicion for me.

The jews of hollywood don't respect japan

>dunno what they got against Japan,
Last time they gave a japanese an oscar for animation, the acadamy got told to fuck off for some reason.

This movie was incredibly mediocre. Literally all it has going for it is pretty backgrounds. That's it. It didn't deserve shit.

How the shit was this not nominated in the first place? Did they just not even submit it?

>Literally all it has going for it is pretty backgrounds

You're thinking of Makoto Shinkai's other movies.

>anime loses to better (not necessarily good, but still better) western movie
>IT'S A CONSPIRACY! HOLLYWOOD HATES ANIME!
The fact that you even give a shit about the oscars is pathetic enough, but this is ridiculous.

I have no idea how the hell this movie got nominated for Best Foreign-Language Film but NOT for Best Animated Film (Bolt? Come the fuck on).

Mandatory Lego Movie post.

I gotcha senpai

What is it about that movie that makes it so charming?

They submitted it too early: during a very crowded year and before getting a wide (for an anime) release.

Don't take it against the little indie movies. Honestly I would have switched Moana for YN. Did we really need two Disney movies on the same category this year?

>Did we really need two Disney movies on the Disney Award category?

It's not that. There are some articles about it if you want to do some googling. To sum them up, it has to do with the Academy being largely filled with casual viewers aged 40 or older. They don't usually watch Animated films unless their children want to see them, and that means movies like "Up" or "Zootopia" win. It's not because they hate anime, it's because they don't care about animated features and Zootopia seemed nice enough.

They didn't even include Animated features until the early 2000s for this reason.

>Overrated Garbage
>Oscar

I think what you heard about actors is true. There's a shitton of people who shit on voice acting, even some people who get casted for voice acting (who aren't VAs, just celebrities in general) don't take it very seriously.

Is there a way to pull a Russia on the academy?

This picture always fucking gets me

But in all seiousness, I mean, he has a fucking point.

He's very clearly a casual movie goer and so are the audience that watches the Oscars. Almost no casual goer went to see Kaguya or Song of the Sea, but most went to see the LEGO Movie, and the consensus was that it was great.

Anomalisa was the best animated film of the decade, and it hurt me to see it lose to Inside Out.

The casual movie audience doesn't care which movie wins for fucking animation.

I'm sure they do. The whole issue with the LEGO Movie kind of proved that.

Fuck. How do we fix animation lads? Is there a way to be taken seriously or we should just embrace our oscure chinese things?

>picking up a mediocre film over HTTYD
Hey, remember when they gave Frozen the award?
I mean, 2013 was a horrible year for animated movies, but they could've atleast nominated The Croods for special effects
BUT NO! THEY GAVE THE OSCAR TO A MEDIOCRE FILM, WITH A MEDIOCRE PROTAGONIST, A MEDIOCRE STORY, AND EVEN MORE MEDIOCRE SONGS

SEE, THE SAME THING HAPPENED FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES

>being this mad

Check out the weaboo QQ'ng over "muh HS romance" being called out for being absolutely fucking nothing.

Why the fuck are 2D and 3D animation in the same category

...

At least it got the honor of being the first R-rated movie in that category's history.

According to Fantastic Mr Fox review from 2009 those are all cartoons!

"Let it go" is such empowering song it blew the academy away, I still hear it on radio ccasionally and at kid's birthday parties.

>Get called on your bullshit
>"y-you're mad"

It was better than it had any right to be but I wouldn't put in anywhere above those two movies.

Your Name was shit and doesn't deserve any awards
Zucchini was cute but uninteresting

>"Let it go" is such empowering song it blew the academy away, I still hear it on radio occasionally and at kid's birthday parties.

It's funny when parents sanction it. In context and in lyrics, the song is basically "fuck the idea of self control now that I've made one slipup, I'm gonna do what I want and I don't care what the consequences are or what happened in the past."

It's a a villain song after all. Movie was rewritten around it so it's a "misunderstood person" song now.
As a result we got equivalent of Lion King, movie that's going to be mined for decades.

Yeah, the whole point of the rest of the movie is that she was being irresponsible by saying "fuck everything" at that moment and unknowingly hurting everyone else with her actions. It's weird so many people missed that.

>The academy
>Nominating Anime

HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW

>He's very clearly a casual movie goer and so are the audience that watches the Oscars. Almost no casual goer went to see Kaguya or Song of the Sea

Oh come off it, the Academy regularly masturbates itself raw over movies that barely fucking anyone actually watched.

A boy falls in love with a girl.

Unable to confess, he is gifted by a deus ex machina with the girl's phone number. Never minding the strange area code, he immediately calls her, and is overjoyed to find out that she has a crush on him as well.

But, the next day, when he recounts the previous day's confessions to the girl, she only looks at him with a perplexed expression. After some investigation, he finds out that the girl he called is not the same girl he fell in love with. In fact, she doesn't exist in this universe at all. She is the girl's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with the MC's own AU self, who too is blissfully unaware of her crush.

Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their darkest, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While the two chase their respective loved ones, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NATURE of LOVE.

>Is approved by Shinzo Abe and used by Cool Japan to spur tourism in Japan.
>Turned into a live-action movie by J.J. Abrams

So this is meme magic. Not bad.

...

>Sup Forums memed Trump into the presidency and made Britain Brexit
>Sup Forums memed Keit-Ai into the no. 1 highest grossing anime movie of all time and an upcoming Hollywood film
>Sup Forums memed a plane crash with no survivors and a Bane porno
>Sup Forums memed Gamergate into existence

Is there nothing meme magic can't do?

Go back to Sup Forums, ya weeb.
Even here in Japan, Your Name hasn't won any major awards, and got outshined by "In This Coner of the World",
and most Japanese critics hated the movie because of its blatant commercialism and little artistry.
Sup Forums keeps lying about this movie, and trying to make Sup Forums fall for it.
It was nowhere near as good as Spirited Away, anyway.

>get an anime
>slap shit on it
>???
>it's a meme

Sup Forums memes in a nutshell

Really this.
Smartest user ITT.

Why is this weeabo bullshit thread still here? Do you clowns do not report this Sup Forums crap? Or has Sup Forums been officially declared just a pop culture rendom board?

Western animations will never have such a critically acclaimed cultural force as anime has.
