Depends on what it is really. Are you doing a period piece? Well then have people that are representative of that era for that place. Having a high concentration of blacks in what amounts to medieval poland is JUST as wrong as having no minorities in a modern depiction of Brittain.
Sure they are bound to have the occasional traveler but it's unlikely to be a decent part of any population.
See it this way: If you're writing a show about early Judaism, would you make the main Character a Sikh? Would you have a supporting cast that is a buddist, a shintoist, a baptist, a mormon and an islamist?
No, that would be out of place for the time and space of your story.
It's the same with race. You're depicting a wrong image in favour of PC culture.
and on an unrelated note: Why even do this in the first place? I'd love a good story with a black person as lead. But write it fitting for them, or at least neutral. Instead of just shoehorning a black guy in somewhere. Are we back to fucking tokenism? To "give it to a black guy it'll read well with the audience"? Fuck that. What's the point?
On the same notion if they made a movie about say, Grandmaster Flash for instance, I'd be equally irritated.
However: there is something to be said for experimentation though, Like "Hamilton" where basically everyone is played by a person of colour, or Patrick Stewarts production of "Othello" where, because he couldn't do blackface any more, he race-inverted the whole play, making everyone black and playing othello himself, but without changing any of the lines. At least in these examples something is creatively done with the concept instead of just "lol let's put a black guy in".
