Really enjoyed the movie. Should have ended before the Iron Man sequence. Essentially ran into the same pitfalls as Gravity, except Damon can sort of sell a performance, or at least deliver lines (even terrible ones) adequetely.

But.. But it didn't try to be a smart movie? It tried to be a movie about a smart person. There's a difference user. Like this user pointed out: you can bash it for things like "Astron-nuts with shitty mic discipline" but your argument seems to boil down to "it's not a smart movie". But how? Not ending sooner, as I mentioned. Not that the runtimes are too long, but Gravity didn’t need the landing sequence and neither did The Martian. In a similar vein, The Martian’s “Iron Man” sequence and Gravity’s fire extinguisher.
It’s also arguable that both were miscast. While I don’t find Damon that insufferable and his Cranston freakout was decent, Bullock and Cloonely are horrible in their roles.
They’re not “smart” movies by any means, but they could have been lighter on some of the fluff.
At the end of the day I’d rewatch The Martian in its entirety, whereas I can find virtually no reason to rewatch Gravity, especially outside of a theater or a high end home setup.
Gravity VR would be the tits, especially with zero dialogue.
