Marvel editorial somehow decided it would be a good idea to make a 16-issue $4.99/$3.99 weekly Avengers: No Surrender not an event because they’re not doing events that leads directly from these four titles with largely the same creative teams. Does this make any sense at all?

They probably figured that it would result in 34k + 31k + 14k + 10k sales rather than UA and USA buyers just dropping the books while people who were reading Waidvengers burning out as a result of the weekly nature.

But I guess we don't actually know how it'll shake out until it's actually out.

so how many characters will be appearing in this joint avengers project? seems like a lot to keep track of.

It's not that outlandish. Instead of shipping four 3.99 titles in a month, ship one 3.99 title four times a month. It's the same number of books. The majority of consumers were probably not buying all four titles, but I bet the majority were buying more than one. I'm currently still getting Uncanny and USAvengers, so if I want to keep up with No Surrender it's not a huge leap.

I can't help but feel hype for so many characters and the potential drama but then my rational brain kicks in and I know this will disappoint and not be worth the cover price.

I just read an article from NYCC with Brevoort claims they're juggling 46 characters

Waid and Ewing playing with continuity could be nice.

>but I bet the majority were buying more than one
majority aren't buying any

Well, if we run down the casts:
Avengers
>Falcon
>Vision
>Jane
>Hercules
>AN Wasp
>Spider-man
6

Uncanny Avengers
>Human Torch
>Wasp
>Beast
>Wonder Man
>Doctor Voodoo
>Quicksilver
>Scarlet Witch
>Rogue
>Psynapse
15

Occupy Avengers
>Hawkeye
>Red Wolf
>Nightshade
18

USAvengers
>Red Hulk
>Enigma
>Squirrel Girl
>Cannonball
>Sunspot
>Iron Patriot
24

Non-Avengers Characters Confirmed to Appear:
>Living Lightning
>Voyager
>Nova
>Chulk
>Captain America
>Black Panther
>Captain Marvel
31

Though if we take , then that means there are an additional 15 characters not listed here that will be appearing. Given the people in the "non-Avengers" list, I'd wager that we'll be getting more Champions and Ultimates characters what with Waid and Ewing as writers and considering both Ewing and Zub are involved, I would be SHOCKED if Songbird doesn't at least make an appearance.

>considering both Ewing and Zub are involved, I would be SHOCKED if Songbird doesn't at least make an appearance.
inb4 they fight over her and one ends up leaving

>Avengers is, at release, the most successful movie of all time
>Flagship title sells HALF as many copies as Walking Dead on a regular basis
How can you be this incompetent? 5 years ago Marvel had a license to print money and they did everything in their power to screw it up.

Actual comic readers have never been that interested in Avengers. Ever.

Occupy was canceled months ago, and USAvengers is canceled and only getting continued in this by the grace of God.
I'm reading Avengers and USAvengers with no interest in Uncanny with Zub, but I'm looking forward to this like said. I also liked Occupy, but since Walker isn't involved I don't think it's worth considering. Probably just included because Ewing's gotta address them somehow.

This. Real comic fans have only ever cared about the X-men and Spider-man from Marvel. The Avengers have always been those lame third-stringers that only turbo-nerds pretended to care about.

How did Hickman's run sell?

Eh, I've be been buying comics since the early 90's and the Avengers has always been the biggest draw for me.

yeah they took backseat to the fantastic four and later the x-men, and now during what should be their prime marvel goes into full retard mode.

Wait, A 16 part series all in one month? That can't be right

You need to be 18+ to post on Sup Forums

No. 16-part weekly series, so it's across 4 months.

Zub has already said multiple times that there no plans for Songbird in No Surrender. Also with the solicits talking about Avengers dying it's probably better that she isn't in this because she'd be prime cannon fodder.

It was okay at first but then went below 50,000 around #37.

Bendis' Avengers somehow stayed around 100,000 during the 00's and there were no Avengers movies then.

>Bendis' Avengers somehow stayed around 100,000 during the 00's and there were no Avengers movies then.
He put Wolverine and Spider-Man on the team.

Was Wolverine on Hickman's team? I can't even remember. I know Spider-Man showed up in the first arc but I stopped buying/reading after the first arc was over.

BendisVengers were also the flagship of the company. The Post Civil War to Secret invasion run was set up in New Avengers, and it sold top 5 every month.

Here's a sample of Bendis New Avengers sales during the 00's to when it was about to be relaunched in 2010 (with Avengers and New Avengers): Some of this may also have been affected by tie-ins to events, back when Marvel fans gave more of a shit about Marvel's events.

>almost every post by Zub trying to drum hype for the event in social media has replies asking for Songbird

Then here's when Bendis overstayed his welcome and worked on Avengers:

The thing is Avengers had always been the second stringers and D-listers that couldn't hold their own books, both because that was the only way for those kinds of characters to get used and because characters who have their own stories going on can't get any development in team books in most cases. Then Bendis put the biggest names he could find on the team to carry his favorites and they did every gimmick possible to hype it up. By now it seems standard, but then it was new and a big deal.

Probably to include Ultimates and Young Avengers like
>Spectrum
>America
>Wiccan
>Hulkling
>HawKate

They could also bring in
>Black Knight
>new Giant Man
>Hyperion
>Smasher
>Manifold

And a sample of Hickman's run all the way to the pre-Secret Wars finale:
