It's built in pretty much the same style and period like the other Scandinavian cities like Oslo, Göteborg and Stockholm. It feels oddly familiar in parts if you go there as a Norwegian, like how Oslo would look like if it was Russian.
I would definitely go there again, but visa application is a bitch.
As a resident of Saint-Petersburg I can say that not all is well there, and just like in any other cities there are some horrible places there.

Weird, I said the exact same thing after I visited. Nicest looking city in Europe, all buildings are uniform and in the centre it was great, everyone wore Armani.
It's probably the uniform architecture which makes it so good.
